    This is Aulton swapping station. This company does not make cars or batteries,, they just built swapping stations. They actually started years earlier than NIO, but so far only built 800 swapping stations. They mostly serve fleet vehicles such as Taxi, cargo vans. As you can see in the video, their stations are bulky, less intelligent and the cars are low end, less than 100K Cinese yuan(13k USD) with range less than 300km.

    I'm sure these swap stations have a higher operating cost at scale than NIO's BSS network.
    First of all they require a massive lot size (= higher rental cost $$). Second, it's not automated, so it requires an operator at each station (more costs $) . Third, it looks like each model has it's own BSS (so double the space & cost 2x$$$).
    I imagine trying to convince parking lots owners to put these giant eye-sore containers on their property must not be easy at all.
    NIO's swap station on the other hand are space-efficient, autonomous and very good looking. It's a win-win.

    If battery storage is on two sides (left and right) instead of one side, battery swaps can be done in 1:30 or less, especially for a drive thru. One cart takes out while a charged battery is on a second cart, ready to be bolted in. Two sided storage with two carts that move right to left or left to right.

      I have people in our group who ordered 5 of them knowing they can either sell their spot in line or just cancel for a full refund. But thats generally how "PREODER" goes in China. Hence why Nio never talks about pre sale #s knowing this. Nonetheless, real number isnt going to show till much later where Onvo gets on the road, test drives and full showing commence. Xiao mi for instance, where wait time is 6-8 months for new orders, but second hand market is already filled with SU7s in just 2 months. though i think, onvo s gonna outsell Su7 by a good margin when its all said and done. large form EVs are much more pragmatic which 200k users gravitate. 550 is FINE! model Y has the same size battery.

      @@lostinbkk555 yup. Alot of these folks who are giving feedbacks never intended to pick up a real car. Their opinions are just opinions. In the current climate, I wouldnnt exclude the possibility of competitors making a ton of pre orders just to screw with order flow. Sadly, competition has heated up so much so, auto makers lost their minds. But everything is looking more and more positive for Nio on the ground. Order flows been strong and stores filled with folks inquiring about cars. I frequent ShangHai, Su Zhou and Beijing. Lots of Nios on the streets now compared to couple of years ago. Specially Nt2 cars. Nio houses are getting filled up too which is a stark contrast to even a year ago.

    Thank Mr P for this impressive report. This demonstrates even for the biggest doubters how efficient battery swap can be. Taking the very short swapping time into account it seems to me that the batteries are not attached by screws to the car like Nio prefers to practice. It could be possibly a multi-sided clamp mechanism that can be released much faster than the time needed for rotating screws of a considerable length. Did you talk about this aspect with the stations attendant?

  • @NomadicAstro
    @NomadicAstro Před měsícem +2

    thought the Taxi ones are faster, in reality the whole operation is Actually much SLOWER due to the manual prepping and examining nature of the back of house functions. The Taxi stations are Manned and often uses logistical trucks for battery circulation and support. Not to mention the low capacity and often low life cycle batteries they use. Where Nios battery network is completely unmanned and cloud compute managed. Nio has 1 service personnel who covers 10 square km up to 5-8 swap stations intelligently. Also footprint is 1/6th of a taxi version which allows for much denser deployment. To sum up, Nios bat swap is tech from the future, and it will take some time for people to realize just how great it is.

    • @cruiser97eric1

Not too many Gen1 is left actually out there. starting from Gen 2, it is divided by districts. 1 crew of a couple of guys on rotation covers a whole area from a remote location. Gen 3-4 are fully oped by lidars and sensors. Generally speaking, currently technician only gets called to location if trouble shooting is needed. Also a Nio owner and user of many years here.

      I think if you put the extra bateries on top of the station and go to a Drive-through swap station than you would have the benefits of a smaller land footprint and the speed of a drive-through system. This allows for lineups to be more conventional with cars almost side by side maybe you could pull through a first swap station to a second so that two swaps could happen on two vecholes at the same time from the same line... Cheers!

      @@mikediemand1727 great idea. I think: the whole lift mechanics will be more complex, more expensive and maybe also more prone to mechanical failures? I suppose both systems make sense. Depending on where they are being deployed. In Switzerland, space is a big issue and it might make sense to go with the concept you're promoting.

  • @tzchoo
    @tzchoo Před měsícem +1

    If Nio could redesign its swap station with drive thru concept, having two mechanisms, one to remove and other ready with the new battery to fit in as soon as the battery is remove, having more batteries in one swap station, Nio could do with less swap stations and save cost.
