For "Part Deux", you need to see these first (in order of importance):
      "Rambo 3"
      "Rambo: First Blood Part 2"
      "The Guns of Navarone"
      "Terminator 1 & 2"
      "Basic Instinct"
      "No Way Out"
"American Gladiators" (TV game show), you just need to be aware of the format and visuals
      "Platoon"
      "Apocalypse Now"
      "Wall Street"
      "Commando"
      lesser references to:
      "Delta Force"
      "Missing in Action"
      "Uncommon Valor"
there are small nods to some others that are nice to catch, but aren't very important:
      "Casablanca"
"The Adventures Of Robin Hood" (1938 version)
      "Lone Wolf McQuade"
      "Dr. Strangelove"
      "Enter The Dragon"

"Is it Safe?" was a line from book turned movie called Marathon Man, which involved a torture scene with a dentist.

  • @victorsixtythree
    @victorsixtythree Před 3 měsíci +6

28:10 - "I hate dentists." That was a nod to the 1976 movie "Marathon Man" which has a famous scene where an ex-dentist tortures the hero by drilling into his teeth without using any anesthesia. You'd love it! I saw the movie on TV when I was a kid and TO THIS DAY I think of that scene every time I go to the dentist.
(There's a fun story about that scene - the main character is played by Dustin Hoffman and the dentist is played by the legendary actor Sir Laurence Olivier. Hoffman, known as a method actor, stayed awake for several days straight to prepare for the scene and when Olivier (not a method actor) noticed, he told Hoffman, "My dear boy, why don't you just try acting?")

"Marathon Man" was written by Academy Award winning writer William Goldman (he also wrote Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, All the President's Men and The Princess Bride). According to Wikipedia:
"Dr. Szell was ranked as villain #34 on its American Film Institute's "100 Years... 100 Heroes and Villains" list. The film was ranked #50 on the "100 Years...100 Thrills" list. He was also ranked in TIME Magazine as one of the 25 greatest movie villains. Both the novel and film contain a graphic depiction in which Szell tortures Babe by first probing a cavity in one of Babe's teeth with a curette, and later drilling into another tooth, without anesthetic, while repeatedly asking the question, "Is it safe?". The quote, "Is it safe?", was ranked #70 on the "100 Years...100 Movie Quotes" list. The dental torture scene placed #66 on Bravo's 100 Scariest Movie Moments."

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992 original movie)

Interesting to hear you say how small the planes were. They used the Folland Gnat, a British training aircraft use by the RAF in the 1960's and 1970's. Also sold to Finland and India. Hope you enjoy Casablanca, it's one of my favourites and has some great funny lines.

"Wrongfully Accused" (Leslie Neilson) is a good comedy to check out, it mainly parodies "The Fugitive."
Also "Kung Pow! Enter the Fist" which is a comedy Kung Fu movie. But it's special because they took an actual Kung Fu movie, redubbed the dialogue entirely to tell a different story, and they either reshot new scenes or super imposed the new actors faces onto the original film and made it for the most part seamless.
