Excellent tutorials, i found it fairly easy to set up after watching these videos I was going to sell my Matrix but have now decided to keep it thanks. Could you do a few more tutorials please
You might want to use the midi control center. Using it, you can back up individual presets and load them into new "projects"
great videos! thank you so much! I get that staying in one key serves the purpose of comparing the different sounds but may I request that you hit a dark key every now and then? pleaaaaaase :-)
i am actually more impressed with the cleaner tones, sounds, settings....this machine can sound very clean and powerful ......Marc can we get a sequencer performance demo, TB303 style with modulation per step? thx much

QUICK QUESTION: Is there any button on the MB that will allow you go revert back to exactly where all of the knobs are on the panel? Meaning, the position of the panel knobs that I see is what I'm going to get when I press the keys? -- This is what drives me nuts about modern programmable synths and what keeps me from wanting one. Thanks!
Yup, the "Panel" button does exactly that.
The knobs DO NOT control voltages like old synthesizers did. The knobs instruct the digital circuitry how to control the analog voltages. The positions of the knobs do not reflect the settings.
@@OPTIONALWATCH I understand that much because that's how a programmable synth becomes programmable (I suppose you could also servo everything but good god that would be complicated and heavy). I can look at the knob positions on a synth and to some extent, understand what I'm going to get out of it based on where they are. BUT if (as with some) I have to twist every knob to get it to bounce back out of it's previous setting in "panel" mode, that's absolutely not what I want.
I wish that the memory retention feature for the deselected matrix button also worked for when you accidentally select a preset while working on a new patch ...like you mentioned in the beginning, it's happened to me before also and it's so frustrating. Maybe Auturia can add this as a feature latter? I'm sure you and I aren't the only ones that have done this.

Cool stuff. That little screen by the matrix, is it an e-ink display? The way it clears itself looks like a quite slow version of what my e-reader does every few pages.
I have heard someone say that it was an e-ink display! But I have no reader experience, so for me, it's just like witchcraft... it stays on when the unit is off!
Ah yeah, that's one of the most useful properties of e-ink, it doesn't need power to hold an image.
Yes, it's e-ink, and unfortunately takes its sweet time refreshing. it's mostly used to display the 4 custom destinations of the modulation matrix (the four right-most columns).
@@automaticgainsay good to know, lol I unplugged the unit, saw it still on. Either thought I got a defective unit or there was a capacitor holding a hell of a charge.
Are the presets organized logically (i.e. similar together on the matrix) or randomly?
There is some column-based similarity, as I recall.

I'm finding the hardwired selection of destinations a bit limited. Odd that they chose the waveshaping functions of both oscillators (using up 6 columns in total) instead of some mixer control, etc. True you can select any other parametres for destinations 13-16, but i find i soon run out with only four slots.
It's true... this is not your ultimate modular situation.
And the fact that the mixer can be controlled was one of my great revelations, which you'll hear about soon.
But yes, there could have been more potential destinations, but ultimately, the question is: how well can it work with the destination possibilities it currently possesses? And for me, the answer is FANTASTIC.
just to be clear, i love this thing and really only find that one aspect a bit limiting. it would be great to unlock those other slots, maybe in a further iteration of the firmware. great vids btw, i'm hooked, keep it up!
It's a trade-off. But something the modulation matrix can do that I've never seen on anything else is control a destination with a weighted-sum (the weights are determined by the mod amount knob) of up to 16 sources, plus an unweighted external CV input (from the back panel). It's like having 16 CV mixers/mults with 17 inputs apiece. Very flexible, AND you can save the patch in memory. So it's not fully modular, but it makes it easy to do things that would be hard with separate modules.
Wonder why Arturia didn't simply make ALL 16 destinations _overridable_ rather than 12 fixed + 4 blank, in a sort of ARP-2600 spirit.
JanPBtest ...or changeable thru the software, yep. I just find it weird that they went with so much flexibility for the wave shaping functions. Those are the parameters I reach for the least when routing. Looking through the patches of the presets it looks like the people who designed them felt the same. Lots of blue lights clustered on the right, not so many on the left.
