Thank you man and best of luck with your training. The gym is located in NJ.
Hi there, thanks for all the great content. I have 2 questions please
1) you seem to hardly ever extend your arms on the punch, which is usually considered poor technique. does this not matter on the 2x bag? It seems to be common practice as you see professionals also not do it, however I am interested in the logic behind it.
2) when you slip, roll etc - would you not usually want to use the bag travelling bag towards your face to time those? ie, punch the bag, then slip as it moves back towards your face, potentially follow up that movement? That's how I try to train on the 2x bag however I seem to have it on much less tension so this seems to become possible.
Many thanks for your comments!
Best,
D
Hey Man, thank you for the questions. The answers are very long and extensive but I will do my best to explain. 1) You are never supposed to hyperextend your elbow when punching. Doing so in the long term will result in damage and injury to your elbow joint. Also, hitting the double end bag requires a snappier shot instead of a punch through shot. You shouldn't punch through the double end bag because it will become a habit and then your punches will be slow to recover your defense. If your double end bag tension is very light, I can see why you would be hitting slow and through. It is NOT wrong but it is surely NOT the best method to train for speed and precision.
2)Again depending on the speed of your bag and how tight is the tension, you always want to try and beat the speed of the bag when you move. However, in my video, I am demonstrating the method of slipping for people NOT familiar with the technique. So the timing of when to slip wasn't really my point but on how to slip from punches. Also keep in mind the point behind slipping is to avoid getting punched in the first place, so moving left or fight isn't going to be perfect every single time you do it. Hope this answers your questions.
I just hung my bag what’s the best height should it be lower than your chin
It should be higher than your chin. AT your eye level would be best or even higher to develop stronger shoulders and learn to keep your hands up.
Why does he make that sound when he jabs?
When will you make a new video?
Thank you for checking in. A little busy revamping the business right now with the pandemic. But hopefully soon will produce a couple of new videos. Anything in particular you are looking for?
