  • Last week, the newest addition to the Royal Canadian Air Force fleet visited Calgary for the first time ever! The CC-330 Husky is the RCAF's version of the Airbus A330 MRTT, and will serve as both a strategic transport and tanker aircraft.
These will replace Canada's existing fleet of 5 CC-150s, which is based on the older Airbus A310. In total, the RCAF is expected to take delivery of 9 CC-330s. 5 of those are used A330-200s, 4 of which will get converted to the MRTT standard at a later date, while the remaining 4 will be new-build A330MRTTs.
The 5 used ones, including this plane, are all relatively new, originally delivered to Kuwait Airways in 2015. This one will be used as Canada's new VIP transport, and was delivered to the RCAF at the end of August. Since then, it's been busy flying around the country seemingly on various training and familiarization flights.
It's great to finally see the CC-330 program come to life, and to see this one in the fantastic looking Government of Canada livery as well! Enjoy the video!

      REALITY CHECK, big fella!!!!
In 2015 Defense spending in Canada was 18B dollars.....EVERY YEAR since then it has gone UP !!!
By 2021 it had grown to 26B dollars....in 2022 (last full year available) it had grown to 29B dollars.....
The budget for 2023 was for 36B dollars....it is just impossible to spend that much more money, that fast, every year on defense....ships take years to build, plane contracts take years to be fulfilled.....the ONE billion dollar cut is a 2.7% cut in spending for this year is simply because it could not be spent!!!!
This government has increased annual defense spending every year and would have DOUBLED the 2015 figure in 2023 if not for the 1B reduction mid year. DOUBLE is not enough for you guys??? (???)
We hear a lot from your side of the aisle about Canada and it's obligation to spend 2% of GDP on defense. The last time Canada spent 2% on defense was in the mid 1980s....Here's more reality for you: In 2015 Canada's GDP was 1,556 Billion....by 2022 GDP had soared to 2,139 Billion....a 37% increase!!! This government is chasing a moving target that is constantly going UP! If Canada had fulfilled it's 2% target in 2022 it would have spent FORTY THREE BILLION DOLLARS last year!!!! That would be 14 BILLION more than it did.....and you are the guys that keep complaining about DEFICITS???? GIVE YOUR HEAD A SHAKE!

Here in North Bay we had plenty of touch and go's and aborted landing practice with the outgoing Airbuses so hopefully these newer and new A330's will do the same. Thanks for sharing.

As an airforce brat in CFB Trenton, we used to be able fly to Vancouver and Comox on the CC-137. Because they were weekly training and delivery flights we were sometimes the only passengers on-board. The price was $6.00 and paid for the boxed meal. @Guerry-3 Před 7 měsíci +3

Hello again from the States, Alex. Thank-you for the video. Indeed, I also believe the Canadian livery is very comely.
A few years back, I read an article regarding the Airbus MRTT and discovered how clever Airbus engineers were in the conversion. In short, they replace the wings of the A330 with the wings from old A340’s. Since the plumbing and hardpoints for installing the refueling pods is already built into the wings where engines 1 and 4 were, the company saves a lot of money and time in making the conversion. BRILLIANT! Apart from the obvious, the other major modification is using the cargo holds for additional fueling bladders.
One of the big questions I had about these refueling aircraft was why not use part of all of the fuselage for additional fuel? I read this would make the aircraft too heavy. But this leaves the upper decks available for carrying troops, light vehicles, and other cargo.
Again sir, thank-you for the video. As always, I look forward to your next posting.

    • @MrFturner
      @MrFturner Před 7 měsíci

I believe the A330's already have the extra fuel lines and engine supports in place so they could add the extra engines while assembling the plane on the line. It was easy to add the wing pods since everything was already in place. This is one of the reasons the MRTT was cheaper than the new B767 tanker Boeing is trying to build. On those, they are mounting B767-400 wings on it since they were bigger which added a lot of cost to it. I could be wrong but thats what I've read.

Love your channel and it’s a beautiful aircraft - obviously not a criticism of you- Yes, I understand that several of these new jets are for transport and tanker usage, however I just can’t stomach the fact that the Dear Leader gets his shiny brand new VIP aircraft, all while our supposed first world military continues to fall into a pathetic, dire state and is regarded as such by our allies, our troops have to make do with incredibly outdated and decrepit equipment, our Air Force and Navy are still waiting somewhere from many more years to never before their new fighter jets and frigates arrive, veterans are treated like garbage and are either offered help in killing themselves or, in the words of the aforementioned despot running the country, are told that they’re “asking for too much”…. Then on top of all that, the ever-spendthrift fascist psychopath who is never averse to spending like a drunken sailor (pun intended) finds the one place where he’s concerned about the budget and adding to the debt and demands that the military cut $1 billion from their budget which is already well below the 2% of GDP benchmark.

"Dear Leader" doesn't get a shiny brand new plane. The military gets a new plane, that the PM, Governor Generals, others whom are classed as VIP like the Royal Family. The military also use it for their own needs too. The PM does not have exclusive use of it, like the President of the US does with the 747's.

No I know the last Canadian Polaris. A 310. What's old It was at The End of its Life but It didn't help that we have a Prime Minister that flies all over the country. In the world non-stop. So this new airbus a 330. It's gonna have a good portion of it's like used up with the way The Prime Minister likes to travel.

Thanks for the video! The paint job is dated and boring. It looks like the same tired & uninspiring designer who cobbled together WestJet's gad awful palette. Gee, did they just get the ANA to paint a red swoosh on one of their planes? If not the old boring scheme or something really striking, it should be military grey with a big rondel. PS: Added to that, Canada's national colours are RED & WHITE so what's with the USA want be colour scheme? I know the rondel has a blue circle. This is due to it evolving from the RAF, swapping a leaf for a red dot in the distant past & it's been a bridge too far to make it Canadian by changing to red when we changed the flag almost 60 years ago. PPS: Here's an idea, why not give it a truly retro vibe & dust off the old CPAir look, I'd suggest the old TCA look, but AC has done that already recently.

Sad to say, it would take an Albertan to call that flying Conservative ad 'fantastic looking' :D :D eugh, hideous, and doesn't even use national colours because the party that chose it used their own instead so now the fleet's stuck with them. Ah well - hopefully the planes themselves do good job, even though they're embarrassing to look at.

Red, White and Blue- Colors of the RCAF aka the owner of it. Why would the fleet be stuck with it? There's only 1, out of 5, CC150's with this paint scheme and it's safe to say only 1, of the 9, new A330's will have it.
