  • Volkswagen’s Touareg is an established player in the premium large SUV market, and under the skin it sits on the same platform as VW Group stablemates like the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne.
So, at pushing towards $90K for this base 170TDI variant, do its premium aspirations and lofty pricing add up to compelling family value? Is it an expensive VW or a cheap Porsche?
Ash Leung and her family of four spent two weeks living with the entry-level Touareg which boasts V6 turbo-diesel pulling power as well as a lengthy list of standard features, an impressive safety suite, plus heaps of space for people, large and small, as well as everything that goes with them.
Ownership costs, on-board technology and economy have also been put under the microscope. So if you’re thinking about a bit of European luxury in your next family-sized SUV, press play to find out how the Volkswagen’s Touareg 170TDI measures up.

They should have retained high quality buttons instead of going for the touchscreen operation. Bad mistake. Especially from such an experienced company.

could not agree more. It's dangerous af to play with the display during driving instead of using buttons and other controls intuitively

Great review but the way you use the steering wheel gives me anxiety. Too much over steering.

Centre air vents (driver vents) are woeful. Very little to NO airflow. What a waste of $140,000 when u sweat with aircon running.. Interior illumination is uneven and certainly not $140,000 in value. Buyer BEWARE.

VW fail… the new infotainment system are terrible…. They need to employ someone who knows about usability engineering. Diesel only….that’s not good going forward either.

VW a great reputation lol you may have forgotten the dsg and diesal gate AC and a host of other issues normally post warranty but judging by sales the public hasn't sales peaked about 2013 /14 now there about a quarter of what they were back then

If it’s “over priced” it must not be meeting VW’s sales targets. Do you have ANY evidence of this?
