    That Jeep is so badly damaged that it's un-repairable. It might be good for a few parts, but even the engine could be suspect if it was running with no oil with the Jeep on its side. Hopefully nobody buys it, because if they do, like you said, it's likely to cost them more than a brand new Jeep from the dealer. This must be one of the worst ones you've shown so far.

    • @unavailablenumbers
      @unavailablenumbers Před 3 měsíci +22

      As someone who wrenched on the prior generations of Wranglers extensively including post-collision? I'll confirm it. This one's unrepairable, no question. Sure, you could put a frame under it. But once you buckle the rear? The body and roof are basically tinfoil and Body by Fisher-Price. You will never, ever get it right again. But hey you can fix that too! Just put a whole new body and roof on, and you've now fixed the permanent maracas and waterfalls from every opening! Of course, now that it's being driven, the owner realizes it has permanent death-wobble, so all those 'good' front suspension parts are actually junk. Womp womp.
      But someone's gonna buy it, because It's A Jeep Thing(TM). And eventually another Jeep-of-Theseus will be on the road (with no doors, airbags, working seatbelts, or catalytic converters, but somehow an incorrectly installed $2000 lift kit.)

      once you roll a jeep, you have to change the roll cage. the top is all sectional and can be replaced in pieces. however, there are still a lot of good parts in it.

    Noticed that in the original pictures of the damaged Jeep it had a "Sky one-Touch power top and the doctored Jeep has a standard Dual Top. Also, the Fenders snap on with clips and plastic pop-rivets, meaning that they didn't put the effort in to the replacement clips. Great eye for the details. Thumbs Up.

    I've bought a car from Copart and one from IAAI. You must minimize your risk before buying with a strategy in mind. Obviously, see the car in person if you can. For me, if the seller's not listed I don't even think about buying it. Same goes for "clean title" or donated cars, you just don't know what you're getting. To minimize your risk, IMHO it's best to purchase a car that's being sold from an insurance company. They have so many totaled cars that they don't have time to doctor them. Also, scammers will usually target in demand cars that will get them the most money so don't get stuck on one particular car, keep your options open and look for less popular alternatives. They also tend to run their cars where the (uneducated) public are allowed to buy. I bought my cars in "dealer only " states through a broker. It cost me a little more but I felt it may have cut down on the number of bidders I was going against so it balanced out. Just my two cents.

    At the 4:00 mark, if you look at the running board/step and lower body line, the whole body and frame are bowed. This is not lens distortion, because the tire track on the ground is straight. Over the length of the vehicle, I'd guess close to a 1" bow in body and frame.

    To me a bigger issue over the frame is the engine. If this was rolled, most people's basic instinct is to re-start the vehicle after a roll over to see if it starts! You can screw up the lifters and other components if you don't relieve some of the pressures caused by fluids migrating into the wrong places.

    There was a guy in Apache Junction Arizona that had a bunch of vintage GTOs and parts for sale. I noticed a few totally rusted out Judge bodies sitting at the back of his yard with the cowl cut out of them, and then noticed a few other GTOs that were actually lemans bodies with their cowls cut out and one that was almost finished being welded in. This guy was faking Lemans bodies for an authentic Pontiac GTO Judge! We had some words about that before I sent the cops over. Not sure what happened, but I went by there a couple months later, and noticed there wasn’t any cars in front of his house except for a 90s pickup. Total Shitbag!

    It's junk- I bet the frame is bent badly over the rear axle hump, which is pushing the rear body up and making those rear doors not align. It's honestly not even a parts car- everything is damaged.

      The issue is, these things are sold "as is", and the market needs to stay that way. Many of these vehicles are sold as "fix em up" project cars, or parts cars for scrap, both categories truly are caveat emptor, "buyer beware", because anyone who delves into either activity is purely responsible for themselves. If you fix up cars, it is your responsibility to know what you buy and what you might be able to sell it for as a merchant in your own right, so the price is at your discretion and what you want to pay for it. The extreme car rebuilder, restorer, it is up to him what project he wants to rebuild at his own discretion and at his pleasure. If they want to buy something to fix for their own hobby, it is only up to them what the project is worth, and the base car they buy to restore or build.
      As such, they do not fall under protection for normal car owners and buyers. They are buying known used and damaged goods, with all the pitfalls and potential gains of buying used and damaged goods. This is the nature of any type of used and damaged goods market, and as it always should be.
      Are these sellers unethical? Certainly. They are merchants of low value. They are wretched businessmen. However, the market they deal in requires light to no regulation, as is its nature, and so they are allowed to operate in such manner. The best response is what Mr. Scott is showing, the fact that those in the market know better and do not reward their business practices, by not buying these cover up patch jobs.
