2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara: The world's worst daily driver?

- I was given a chance to play around in the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited for this test drive. Should I evaluate it on the same criteria as my other reviews? Jump in as I give my personal, UNSCRIPTED review. We'll look at real cargo space, interior ergonomics, fuel economy and take it in the dirt to test the powertrain.

**Clicks to watch Jeep review. Hears "Couldnt find the window switches". Leaves video.
codybe2cool right lol
Kinda facts🤣🤣🤣🤣
Best comment made. 🤣
Ikr, they’re freakin massive in the center console, you found the shifter, so this you should be able to find the window switch
I tried very hard to talk my wife OUT of buying a wrangler for her daily driver. I am so glad I failed. It has been one of the best purchases we have ever made. More fun than our crossfire even!
Can you explain the fun? Was thinking about buying my daughter one. However we don't have off road conditions
@@2023-Sucked just boght one today :-) 2013 4 door 2.8 crd
@@andrehansen585 I’m thinking of buying one next week, I’m in a conclusion of either getting a 2013 Jeep Wrangler or 2013 Toyota 4Runner and I can’t decide. Have you had any problems or concerns with your 2013 wrangler ????

@@leonilagreiter297 i have 2.8 diesel engine with 200ps. Its a vw motori engine that is solid.
I don't go off road, I can't afford one, and it makes no sense for me to get one, but I want one so bad!
+wheelzwheela thanks for watching.
-Greg
i love my jk unlimited poor mpgs an all.Im always getting compliments on it.So i know others would love to have one too.
+wheelzwheela its called a "jeep thing" most people wouldnt understand
Same! I want a wrangler because I absolutely love them and they last forever! I think those reasons are good enough lol
not the best though.. the car isn't roomy at all
You can improve the sightlines by removing the sticker from the windshield.
Indeed.. and beyond that, of the modern vehicles with their ridiculously oversized a pillars and sloped windshields , the wrangler has one of the best forward sight pictures in the industry.
Ding!
True Jeeper's love them as DD! You don't buy a Jeep for gas mileage, you buy it because it's a Jeep! It's truly a lifestyle, own a Jeep a day and you'll know what I mean. Complete strangers will start waving to you in their Jeep's. You don't get that with any other brand besides HD.
/jeepwave
Uhmm you get that in corvettes too
Blake Watson I love my 09 Rubi. Hell today with the doors and top off I got 23.4 mpg LMAO. With them on I was getting 15.3. Sadly though I'm mainly waving at other jeeps the a low return rate, I'm sure it's just my town though.
@@AnthonyJMurillo That's the only 2 corvettes and jeeps I've owned both. Own an older Jag got a wave from another older Jag owner so maybe 3
Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
Wrangler reviews always kind of make me chuckle. Every one is always "This is the worst drivers car ever created, and its AWESOME!!!" Love it
you got it!
thanks for watching.
-Greg
I bought mine 2 days ago, just ready for the 4th of July!!! and I love it. This is my first Wrangler and it was my dream for many years; thank you for the review.
I loved my Wrangler. It could drive through anything, and I think it's the perfect daily driver in the midwest winters. It went like a snowmobile and I never had to brush off the windshield.
Photo314159 nice! thanks for sharing.
-Greg
What about the reliability?
on my second Wrangler and I daily drive it, love it to death and love watching my GF in the passenger seat. Wrangler guys understand
Your reviews are outstanding! Always a treat to watch. Keep up the good work Greg.
Col Warwick...I had the same exact thought! I have to say i almost didn't click the video due to the title, but I am glad I did. This was a great, honest review and I totally appreciated the WHO CARES?! Great review and I look forward to seeing more from you! Happy New Year!

My 2013 JKU has been my daily driver for 7 years now and I absolutely love it. We went for a joy ride this weekend with the top off and we could have ridden around all day. I love my Jeep.
Thanks, I appreciate it!

I liked your review video. Just bought a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara in Anvil color. Never had a Jeep before but thought I always wanted one. I was right. I love this vehicle. Plenty of comfort and amenities plus plenty of off road capabilities. Just the right mix for me, for the road and the farm and the trail. My grandkids love it too. Thanks again for a great review!
Great review man!! I like the fact you actually understood the Jeep and didnt test and judge it with the same parameters as a family or sports car. My wife has an 2007 and we love it.
thanks, I appreciate it!
thanks for watching and chiming in.
-Greg
thank you! (for actually getting it) As you can see below, not everyone understood my point, glad you did!

Great review! I love that you're able to see that there are other measures of success in vehicle design other than those which brought us the Prius :-) I wish I could grab one of these babies.
Great review. You weren't ragging on the Jeep, just simply being honest. My wife wants to get one of these as a commuter and I've pointed out all of the issues with that idea. Hope this puts the icing on that cake.
4.0L Inline six was a fantastic motor. In an XJ that motor moves the hell out of it. It only weighed 3300 lbs in 4x4 trim.

Excellent summary, the Rubicon is an awesome version, an your experiences sum up just about what everyone has to say about how much fun their Jeep is and how much they like it. That's what I was trying to convey in this video.
thanks for watching.
-Greg
About mpg, the one caveat I will give is that new cars need to break which usually improves mileage, but not enough to raise the fuel economy figure from my observed 14.9mpg to your 20mpg.
Do you have the manual? Perhaps the 6 speed and smart driving can make a big difference over the 5-speed and average driving. Also, I drive these for about a week, so certainly take the number with a grain of salt, but I would suspect its relatively close to what others get.
thanks for watching.

in part, the throttle tip in is quite slow (perhaps for off-road control?) but that definitely makes it feel like you really have to put your foot in it to get it moving. You're likely right, they aren't crazy slow, but the perception is that its still a little under powered. (IMHO)
thanks for watching and chiming in.
-Greg
Spot on review. Just bought my first Jeep this week. As mentioned there are a lot of negatives, but it's an iconic vehicle, and a ton of fun to drive. One thing I think you should have included that I recently found out, other Wrangler drivers will wave at you, talk to you at red lights, and sometimes follow you.

theres really no other vehicle that compares to a jeep offroad
Well the point I was making it that plenty of people use them as daily commuters...you're exactly right that they are killer off road.

Good god I couldn't get past a minute listening to that guy! GO JEEP!
A minute is better than none!
-Greg
After the first few minutes of 'mild' criticism pointing out why this isn't like every other car, I'd say he gave it a fair review. It's exactly what he said it is and that's exactly why people love them. GO JEEP!
I agree it could use some re packaging!
thanks for checking it out.

Got a TJ for my daily driver, love it!
I know this is old news but like the guy who posted below, for the longest time I couldn’t afford one and wanted one SO bad (although I had a use for it). They still remain very expensive vehicles but I found a low mileage, clean as a whistle used 2013 and I am in hog heaven. Finally! ❤️
I'm going to look at a 2012 and 2013 tomorrow both 4 door Sahara's. Have a 2014 Grand Cherokee. Don't need another vehicle but always wanted a Wrangler
Great testimony!
Thanks for stopping by.

They certainly have their place, but there's no denying the newest Jeeps are at another level in terms of everyday comfort.
thanks for checking it out!

Just bought Jeep Wrangler Overland.... when I had the test drive, I was grinning my face off from the start till the end of it. Shock! Pleasant shock! This thing is so different to anything I have ever driven in my life.... All I can say)))

What does "good idea" mean to you?

Just competed a road trip 1,200 Miles on my JK Sahara. I drove 50mph, 75mph and 85mph and it felt good. No sluggish feelings. There were high winds with some rain but my JK was solid. I saw many road cars, suv's fly past me while i kept 21mpg to 24mpg.
The Jeep is a cool vehicle with capabilities flair and safety that the suv sleds and car (go carts) don't have. I removed the freedom tops for 200 miles while i listened to the sound of the air and getting 24mpg at 60mph and that is worth more than getting 30mpg inside a bubble of metal and plastic.
The Jeep also has confidence with its stance of height and safety because you are not sitting so low that an accident will cause most cars to become crushed or squashed at the life essential areas of the vehicle like roof and legs. .
Most Jeepers will call my JK a non jeep compared to CJ or some jeepers will call my Sahara a prius of the Jeep family compared to the Rubicon or Sport but its my daily driver and I wouldn't trade it for anything. The Sahara is a trim level of what could be compared to car and I've added 800lbs of bumpers, winch, rock sliders and lights. Bottom line is doors don't ding my doors in parking lots they ding their door edges on my bumpers and rock sliders. I get great mileage and i can see over the cars in traffic while jamming out to the radio or the wind with the freedom tops removed.
If you want a cookie cutter road sled or suv aka wagon with 2 wheel drive then buy a kia a honda or a chevy but if you want options, confidence and feeling of awesome capability on and off road then buy a jeep. Sport ,Rubicon and Sahara are all great so enjoy the feeling and know you will never have the same love for any vehicle ever again.
I'm not a car lover i'm a jeep lover and its a choice to have options of roads on and off top on or off muddy, snowy rainy or sunny my jeep accepts all and achieves it with coolness and confidence!
Keith Castellano thanks for chiming in and sharing your real world experiences.
-Greg
Still... Jk isn't as great a TJ or a YJ... I can't seem to see it as a jeep xD I wouldn't call it a PRIUS of the jeep family, but it just doesn't give the true jeep experience.
Not discounting the vehicle, it's a sweet off-roader! However, the Jeep safety ratings are sub-par compared to comparable off-roaders... Marginal score (second lowest) from IIHS SIDE crash test (which PASSENGER CARS have been passing since 2006) and granted, it scores high in the moderate overlap from crash, it scores another marginal in the small overlap front, another test which some vehicles have been passing since 2003 (Volvo XC90). So I would not advocate safety...
Give me standard side airbags for front and rear seats, and improve front crash ratings and I'll buy one in a heartbeat, but until then I'd rather stick with a Subaru Forester.
I have a wrangler as my daily driver. My job is literally life and death. Cardiothoracic Surgery. 8 inches of snow and nothing plowed when a patient has an aortic aneurysm rupture at 230am? Not a problem. I pulled fallen trees out of the way during Hurricane Sandy with the Jeep to get through. It's not for everyone but has been the best emergency/first responder vehicle I could ever ask for.
thanks for sharing your experiences!
-Greg
Thanks for the honest review! Really enjoyed watching this one.

I'm from Canada and the region I'm from the temperature has a variance of over 140 degrees, from near 50 below zero to sometimes 100 above. as a daily driver it works for me. secure in the winter and fun in the summer. they're one of a kind. nice vid.

thanks for sharing. Everything is my opinion of course.

Did you not hear me say "it's awesome" in the opener?
thanks for stopping by.
-Greg
I had a 2001 Wrangler and now have a 2014 as a daily driver. As long as you realize it's not a Mercedes or other luxury car, there's no problem. I've never complained about the harsh ride. I wish the fuel economy could be better, but other than that the Jeep is a great daily driver.
glad to liked that!
thanks for stopping by.
Greg
good analogy! (especially from a beer lover...I like my stouts...and IPAs!)
thanks for watching.
-Greg
I don't power versus manual windows matters much, I'd probably opt for the 6 speed manual though! (one more gear, better off road)

I didn't mess with them much. But basically you have 4 Hi and 4 Lo.
thanks for checking it out!
-Greg
Great review man keep it up.
thanks, I appreciate it!
-Greg
Cheers for the help!
Cool! You need to get a compressor and a few other things to make it work though.
thanks for checking it out!
-Greg
The jeep experience (owning a wrangler) is really like skydiving.. it doesn't seem like the greatest idea in the world when you look at it from a distance and have never experienced it yet.. but you just have to take that first leap of faith, and once you do, you'll only want more and more. its hard to really explain to people who haven't taken that leap themselves. 200,000 miles later in my YJ, and it still hasn't gotten boring. The old girl is on her last leg but still just as fun as the day i bought it. A JK will be in my future.
ffjaronhalt5 thanks for chiming in! Good thoughts.
-Greg
I am considering this car (the 2.8 TD version) for Europe. Do you have any idea how it performs in snowy/ icy conditions? I want to take this thing to the alps for skiing etc. Thanks
Right. I should have been more clear with that. I never drove a 3.8 V6 so I didn't have a solid comparison/reference. Thanks for clearing that up!
-Greg
Just North of Gallup, NM. Never heard it called Choke Cherry though, so IU'm guessing no.

My daughter wants one. We live in Atlanta GA no off roads for us just highway. Should I still get it for her for her first car.
She lived in Jacksonville Florida for 4 years. So I think she still have that beach mindset lol. Atlanta GA no sands.
Please help me what should I do?
We are look very forward to having a Jeep soft top & are considering the 2 door. Do you think the manual windows would be better than the electric? Manual or automatic transmission?

Just subscribed, love the reviews. That's exactly what I told my 55 year old mom after I drove her new 2014 Rubicon Unlimited with the manual trans and mud terrain tires - probably the worst commuter vehicle on the market. She commutes 80 miles a day. Whatever, she likes it.
Todd Wilson Thanks for the sub and for chiming in!

My husband bought me a 2015 unlimited Sahara for Christmas, and I absolutely love it! I have wanted a jeep for years. But with 4 kids it wasn't even a possibility. So I have driven 2 vans and a few years ago bought a Dodge Durango, which we still have and love. But, with our kids getting older and 2 having their own cars I started talking about a jeep again. We talked about getting one in summer. We went and test drove one before Christmas, and I loved it! The day after Christmas my husband surprised me with my jeep. It definitely drives different than our Durango. But its a jeep!! I think I have driven the Durango once since owning the jeep. I can't wait for summer to take the top off and taking some road trips in it with my husband!!
Robert once again, I forgot to mention MPG, this jeep averages on the highway about 12.9 to 13.5 with what I mentioned on my previous post. This jeep came with many AWESOME extras, and this includes wheels. The current tire size is a LT285/65R18
Jeep girl for life! Loved how easy winter driving was!
Yeah, they make snow storms fun!
Cheers!

True, I've driven that engine in the Caravan, but never in the Jeep.
Thanks for watching.
-Greg
Tacoma for sure. It's just more practical...but it's really a good matchup. They both get terrible fuel economy. Both have higher than average resale. Jeep is better off road and generally alittle cooler and more fun, but the Tacoma has more room and is generally better at everything else.
Thanks for watching!

Great review.
Sorry I couldn't be more entertaining, although the purpose here is more for perspective and to inform than to entertain. I can't compete with TopGear or MotorTrend or Drive!

Hey is there anyway you can explain the different 4WD modes?
Nice review on the Jeep. I own a 2013 Unlimited Rubicon (6-speed) and yeah it's not the greatest as a daily driver. With the top off its a blast, but it does catch the wind a bit on the hwy and the MPG sucks. I bought it to enjoy and off-road a few times a year so its a perfect car for me. Though I'm looking at a second car to use as a daily driver.
looking to buy a jeep wrangler test drove one today other than gas and tires what else do i have to worry about?
Not alot if yur in the city.We dont have anywhere to offroad our jks. They r kinda slow an eat gas.But yu soon forget that after driving one.
That was exactly my point, this is an offroad vehicle, not a daily driver!

That's the idea I get from most (all!) Wrangler owners.

Im on my 1st wrangler and when I got it a few months ago I thought why didnt I do this years ago instead of buying trucks and sports cars.
love my tj, coolest car ive ever owned
I live in New Mexico...its makes the "back 40" in most other states look like the suburbs.
I agree, the Wrangler is more rugged than a typical FWD...I don't quite understand what point you're making.
thanks for checking it out.
-Greg
My parents own a wrangler unlimited Sahara and it handles like a boss! My dad hit a deer in the highway at 140-160 km and it di dint do any damage apart from the number plate falling and the bumper slightly bending
Amen brother. I just bought my JK Unlimited and I literally can't wait to get into it every chance I get. First day I had my my daughter begged me to take the doors off... which I did. What a blast. Why did I wait so long to get one???!?!!?
Can u remove the doors on the hard top or it's just for the soft top
The hardtop and soft to are the exact same car. BOTH. Jeeps are easy to make because you make can color of the basic frame and are able to change every thing else.
Sorry you feel that way...I don't think you got my point.
Thanks for stopping by nonetheless.
-Greg
I have 2013 wrangler sahara and absolutely love it!! I drive it every day
I can afford a top of the line mercedes, bmw, audi, cadillac, whatever. I wouldn't drive anything except my two door Sahara Wrangler. Ever
+DoinThupidThings Once you've owned a Wrangler, it's like a disease (although a good one). You always go back to a Wrangler. I have a friend who buys a new car every year, and he's driven Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Cadillac, yet he's owned 6 Wranglers. He keeps going back to them.
Greg Roberts Nicely said. I would call the Wrangler I have now my vehicular soulmate. I don't think I could ever sell or trade it in
omg yes! The only problem I had with them in the past was not enough horsepower but now with a 3.6 Pentastar, that is not an issue. Easily merges with and keeps up with traffic highway traffic flow. One thing I discovered this winter was you don't even have to put the hard top back on in the fall. I live in Northern Canada and found that my two door was always warm within about 5 to 7 minutes, especially with heated seats. The only remaining issue with the two door is lack of space-not much room to pack stuff if you have passengers in the rear seat. A long distance haul would require you to install a luggage rack on the roof. Other than that, Jeep is awesome!
+Kailer S Sure, if you realize it's not a smooth a ride as a luxury SUV would be. It's not a BMW or Mercedes. But they're great daily drivers except the gas mileage is on the low side. If you live in the snow they're even better daily's.
Kailer S Personal preference I think. I love a truck with a lift kit and aggressive mud tires. But for me it's a Jeep Wrangler all the way. Greg Roberts is right when he says it's not a smooth ride but that's something I don't care about. You should test drive both and go from there
I think you missed the point, everyone who drives a Jeep loves it.
-Thanks for watching!
