Sanctity of Marriage: We Are Left to Battle Paganism On Our Own

  • Review of marriage contract. Prediction made by Archbishop Fulton Sheen in March, 1931. Actions of Henry VIII. Protestant revolt on perpetuity and exclusivity. Casti Connubii (Pius XI). The consequences on the mentality of those who use contraception. Solemn warning to US Catholics from Benedict XVI. HHS mandate and the Bishops' response.
    Significant quotes from this sermon:
Since a week ago last Saturday, we can no longer expect them to defend the law of God. These sects will work out the very logic of their ways, and in 50 or 100 years there will be only the [Catholic] Church and paganism. We will be left to fight the battle alone, and we will.
--Then-father Fulton J. Sheen, March 1931, reacting to the United States Federal Council of Churches of Christ endorsement of the use contraception by married couples
Is it imperative that the entire Catholic community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the Church's public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres. The seriousness of these threats needs to be clearly appreciated at every level of ecclesial life.
--Pope Benedict 16th, January 19, 2012, to the Archbishop of Washington DC and the bishops of the surrounding areas

I lost a husband - a Catholic man who became a doctor by the grace of God - because I refused to take artificial birth control. We were asked to sign a promise - that we understood and would reject the use of contraception - during the pre-cana course we took with the priest who officiated at our marriage. I reminded my husband of the teachings of the church and our signed note - alas he didn't care... and left me with four children to care for on my own. This became such an issue bewteen us prior to our divorce when we sought counseling; My ex husband convinced a Catholic priest and a Catholic psychotherapist that this should be ok... as he tried to tell them that I was unstable - which I was not, and am not. I vehemently opposed all three of them. I prayed to God during this time and said - Lord, if the Pope comes out and says that contraception is accepted now in the Catholic Church (at the time it was put up for reconsideration) perhaps they are correct - but even then I would be suspicious at the reconsideration that it would be a form of pagainsim infiltrating our Holy Mother Church. The Pope came out against the use of contraception - and I stood my ground. My husband left our home. We were divorced about 10 years later, I was granted an annullment 2 1/2 years after that. He went off with his secretary and lives with her to this day in a civil union. The cost of remaining faithful to God for the sake of our souls is much more important than anything else in this world... even than being a doctor's wife and the glory that comes with that state in life.

+Maria Elana. Hello Maria Elana, peace - yes The Rosary, the unfailing well, the gift that keeps on giving. Offered consistently and devoutly together with regular Holy Communion in a state of grace and Our Blessed Mother will grant the true divine perspective on all matters and thence the peace that surpasses all understanding will ensue. Through The Rosary and Holy Communion she will also provide unfailing strength to those who humbly ASK in order to follow Our Lord's teachings - as indeed a true Mother would to her children - "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he? - [Matthew 7:9]… . The Rosary truly said and truly offered in union with Holy Communion is the road map to true enlightenment and inner and outer peace, while all around the chaos and storms of hate, abuse, clawing ideologies, many nothing more than mere fashion and social whims, allied to false beliefs rage on and on . . . . . . . . . . .

Peace.

Sheila, unnatural? Well a man having sex is another man is unnatural. It's against nature. You contradict yourself in your own typing. Yes, sex is a good thing as it re-populates our species but when it is used for pleasure only (promiscuous activity) & other ideas than it's a weapon against us (notice the high increase of STDs after the so called sexual revolution). Sex is given up by men and women as it is a good that is given up. We are either enslaved by our passions or we are in control. By the way you do not 'marry' anyone. You have no power to and funny how you are bothered by this (your conscious is aware) then say you aren't bothered.. Pick one

Brave New World was also strangely prophetic. In the book sexuality and morals were destroyed for pleasure as the center principle. They engaged in sex without procreation, the people never had the chance to know Christ, as religion was disbanded, and sexual deviancy was rampant, as the state said it was a duty to objectify each other and treat each other as objects of sexual pleasure. This has been developing for the greater part of a century, and now our world is slowly becoming a Brave New World, that which we need to squelch.

I don't know with certainty if I'm right to do so, but every time I hear someone refer to marriage as a "contract" I cringe a little. Dr Scott Hahn has explained that a " contract" is an exchange of goods and services, while a "covenant" is an exchange of persons. While it is certainly true that an exchange of goods or services may occur as a result of a marriage, that is not what the marriage itself is. Marriage is a "Covenant", an exchange of persons for the purpose of the bringing forth of new life and the sanctification of the spouses. I humbly submit my thoughts to your discernment.

Yeshua Vargas i agree and add its both because its an exchange of the temporal and eternal as marriage brings others to holiness it also brings the flesh together as one which in heaven then no longer is married where we then get the "til death do us part" but its beautiful you comprehend this all the sacraments are for us to be brought to elevation in holiness

A reason why birth control is so widely accepted in evangelical Protestantism is because "a husband's right to sex when he wants it" is widely taught. The idea of abstinence in marriage is taught as a sinful position and prompts men to temptation. Women are taught and encouraged that during their times of needful abstinence, like post partum, they are to satisfy their husbands orally, manually, and now it is taught, anally. The idea of a husband having to practice abstinence for the sake of his wife's well-being is unheard of and condemned.

Interesting. "Branded with a Grave Sin" as Pope Pius XI stated. Indeed upon their soul it is imprinted and upon their nature in the world it is reflected by act and deed! In my opinion, from what I have seen overseas and here at home throughout the years there is great truths in this statement. If one has no reverence for our Lord and God in such an act how can one be expected to have such for another human being? Quite impossible since mankind is both Spirit and Flesh. Quite unlike an animal but if he chooses to behave, so then what do they become? Indeed how can they be Spiritual? As scripture states, they are handed over to their licentious and ungodly ways! Love between two people is divinely given as I have viewed and quite different then the masses claiming the, "I love you" syndrome. A syndrome lasting until one needs to change their socks, so to say. BUT as many of the old Catholic exorcists claim, it is the one thing laughed at and mock by demons. Why? Because it can be duplicated, pretended and fulfill nothing but lust and passions. This is one of their chief means to dam souls. Oh well, I guess so many, as Jacinta of Fatima said, so many are going to hell because of sins of the flesh. The imprint as I see it, is both will and brain leading to connection with the dark side. The self as important first and the brain finding the reasons to justify and rationalize it. The lost are not so lost, they indulge in what they find peace, love and joy followed by practicality, convenience and comfort. Check it out if you don't believe me for yourself.

Karen Moore There are those in the Church who are dealing with ssa (same sex attraction). The Church tells the faithful who suffers with these unnatural desires a third way. Taken from the example of St. Paul, live a chaste life. if you cannot see yourself being with the opposite sex rather than being miserable in attempting to live That life. Again The Lord and his bride the Church urges those who suffer from SSA to live a chaste life dedicated to our Lord.

Sheila Kuhn you are right sex is a wonderful gift given by God to men and women who marry each other. The sacrament of marriage is a mystery, a vocation, and thus a call to sanctification which is why it needs to be protected. Sex that occurs outside of the holy covenant of marriage is not true love, it is merely empty people (because they do not believe or trust in God) who try to fill their emptiness using the bodies of other people. This joy only last a few seconds before the hole needs to be plugged up again. True joy only comes from loving God. Also it is not possible for a person to be both proud and humble, they are the opposite of each other. Also a Christian who has studied their faith and prays constantly will not judge you in a hurtful way but instead try to gently steer you in the right direction as we were once directed to the right path. Jesus loves all people and wants all of his creation to join him in everlasting life but only those who are holy will be able to meet him because He is holy and only holiness will unite with Him. I pray that you and your community are able to look past the temporal gratifications of this world and realize that we are more than bodies but also spirit because even though Jesus is gentle and merciful He is also just and no injustice (sin) will go unpunished.
