Omg for real?

I’d imagine if a ancient Roman were to hear us speak Classical Latin we’d sound like pirates sound to us😂
The emphasis on certain sounds and how we structure sentences, it’s be a rough time for them if people tried speaking to him🤣
It would be interesting to hear how ancient languages were really spoken. What words of slang were used but rarely written, same with innuendos not always finding their way into writing. Even ancient music is a mystery, we can play the notes as we interpret them on instruments we’ve tried to replicate but how could we really know?
@@Marcyq731
Honestly it’s enjoyable how the historical community has so many creative people who invent different interpretations and styles of what we have found about this stuff I’m almost happy we haven’t found out the true and original styles
I really appreciate this video. It's the first of yours I've seen, however as someone who actively plays this game I should also mention that lore-wise, these characters hail from different areas which is why you may thing pronunciation may be different/wrong.
Excellent, as I thought
@@polyMATHY_Luke You are correct too, with your thoughts of French and Germanic too as some of these characters are said to be from those Locations. Excellent video, by the way. :)
Thanks Wanheda, was gonna point that out too lol. Glad main here! Have a great day!
@@polyMATHY_Luke Something else to consider; several of the characters have a sort of "personality" to them, which may alter the context of their pronounciation.
For example, the Lawbringer (heavily armored guy with poleaxe) is more or less a one man army/executioner, soullessly devoted to bringing order. His shouts may just be him proclaiming his mottos and oaths as he lays waste.
The Centurion (guy with Gladius and nothing else) is an extremely egotistical fighter, loudly proclaiming how *INCREDIBLE* he is (and let's be real if you can knock a guy in full plate armor 6 feet away on his ass with one punch, you reserve the right to such an ego), so his singular proclamations make a bit more sense.
The Gladiator (trident wielders) of course, is a gladiator. Lorewise they were such unchallenged gladiators that they left the coliseum to pursue opponents on a battlefield that might challenge them. Yeah, fighting unarmored on a real battlefield just for entertainment. Anyway, it's very possible that their shouts are chants or mottos that they would have proclaimed in the coliseum, like a catchphrase.
The Black Priors (large shield and sword) however, are interesting, as they are essentially monks from an order that worshipped gods of War and Death. I don't think it impossible that they're shouting bits of prayers or recitals from their worship as they take to the battlefield.
Also, Gryphon (an old guy, not shown in the video) is trilingual, speaking Latin, Icelandic, AND Japanese on the battlefield (even changing in real time based on who he's currently fighting!) So if his Latin is a bit muddled, it's very possible he's gotten a little rusty while learning 2 additional languages.
Sorry for such a long explanation, but given how contextual Latin is, I think it's important to take that into consideration for their pronounciation. I hope this helps, even if just a little!
@@CheesieSquirrel The Commander of death is here ;)
Honestly the fact that they added that kind of detail with the centurion speaking Latin is pretty impressive, even if it is off a bit.
You would be such a distraction on a battlefield.
That chrome dome would blind anyone with a 75 meter radius

@@hrvatskinoahid1048 The Pharisees were likely instrumental in the death of Jesus. How fragile does one have to be in their faith to view simple facts as anti-semitic? Of course that doesn't excuse mistreatment of Jewry since, and any such mistreatment is fundamentally anti-semitic, but that doesn't change the fact that the leadership of the Pharisees sought the death of Jesus Christ.

Honestly prior actually saying my heart becomes silent is somehow even more in character just for the edge factor assuming it's meant as non literal.
I believe that you explaining latin gives the "Dark Prior" more character, as they acknowledge themselves as evil here, the ones who are silent in their heart and calling the powers of darkness...
In the lore the Black Priors aren't evil, there are specific sects of them that are though. After Apollyons fall the Black Priors that served her went into hiding, they later came out of hiding to stop a joint Viking and Samurai raid on a Knight harbor, they wanted to make amends. The next evil BPs we get after Apollyon are Vortiger and Erzebet (and their followers) who follow Astrea in the war between Chimera (Gryphon/Holden Cross) and Horkos (Warmonger/Astrea).
@@thewolfgirlexpert bro my knowledge of lore in for honor is crap so this is very insightful. I'm guessing Astrea is Warmonger in the game.
@@calebcrook5875 she’s the default set the other ones are different named ones (I can’t remember there names atm) except the Apollyon set which I’m pretty sure is just astrea
@@calebcrook5875 No, The warmonger you play as is just a grunt in warmonger armor. Same with the other heroes. You play as a grunt from each faction class, not their leaders. Ubi made it this way so you could bullshit up a backstory and unique look for your own heroes.
As explained the black priors aren't necessarily evil but they are willing to do whatever necessary to accomplish there goal and that can be evil things to the black prios it doesn't matter the actions they take as long as they assure victory. I could be wrong and if someone is more insightful on the lore and knows I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Great video as well! It seems that For Honor did their Latin better than I would’ve thought, especially after seeing Ubisoft’s Latin in Assassin’s Creed
"By means of the deep things"... oh dear. I get that they want to win the fight, but is invoking the Great Old Ones really necessary? Or wise?
This was a great watch! I’m half Italian living in the UK and the way you pronounce things definitely echoes modern Italian pronunciation.
