These were people who knew Billy, loved him mostly with a few exceptions, but their story never waivered. If one doesn't believe Billy's friends, then look to all of his many enemies, none of whom would have been content to look the other way had Billy survived that night. Garrett ruthlessly killed Tom Folliard and Charlie Bowdre in his attempts to kill the Kid. Why would he kill them and let the Kid go? All other stories are product of 20th Century posers with no documents, no records, no witnesses and nothing beyond their own tall tales to produce in support.
I recently made my first visit to Fort Sumner. You captured it beautifully. Very nicely done!
