Dolphins Feeding in their habitat | Azores Whale Watching

How do dolphins hunt? This is an uncut video showing exactly how it happens. As we learned from previous posts, dolphins feed on fish, squid and small crustaceans. Today we learn in a very visual way the techniques dolphins use to group and corral their prey. In this case, a school of fish. Not only do they surround the bait ball on all sides, but they also create "walls" of bubbles by expelling air. In this way they enclose the group and prevent them from splitting up.
Other marine species join this "tornado" of dolphins to feed. We can clearly see how the cory's shearwaters dive several meters propelling themselves with their wings to reach the bait ball. We can also see how some tuna emerge from the depths and attack from below. Something absolutely mesmerizing to see.

Very interesting watch. Perhaps the "cute" vocals of the dolfin is more an invite to their prey . Lovely creatures, and they too have to eat. Sad for the menue

Super nice shots and thank you also for the explanations, through which one understands the meaning of some actions better. I have a question about that; If the dolphins get hold of one of the shearwaters - do they eat them too or are they not in their prey scheme?

Thanks for your comment! We are glad you like the video :) Cory's shearwaters are not in the dolphin's menu. In the unlikely event that a dolphin bites a bird while hunting, the dolphin most probably would release it immediately. Even so,that's a very rare situation!
