According to the probability calculator I found, that deck had a 1 in 3 chance of pulling 3 or more "monarchs" in the opening hand. 70% you pull two or more.
OH look those "bricks" you speak of are damn Monarchs and not actually cool Tribute Summon monsters! And played by someone who has been notorious for stuffing too many Monarchs in his Decks in some Progression series matches. Just WOW.

I love how MBT won his games despite not resolving his wincon at all, he basically could have just summoned normal beaters and won in the same fashion because Cimo bricked (and bricked himself game 1 by going for reaper)
Yeah, that was an odd choice for sure. Block attacks and play defensive......... OR infinite tribute fodder to go on the offensive.

also maybe he used the side deck, removing some monarch or cards like jinzo that are useless against ddt
and because players COULD actually play this deck (even it is... build strange tbh) AND knew how to sideboard

@@MrDraquo I guess it would help get monsters onto the field at the very least, but monarchs' effects only trigger when they are specifically Tribute summoned. Cheating out a monarch like those cards allow you to do is not actually a Tribute summon, because no monsters are being tributed.
@@sallas09 I gotcha. The effects of Monarchs vary from awesome to meh, but sometimes you just need a big body on the field to keep from getting blown out.

He really under-estimated how valuable Frog is in Monarch. It is basically the heart of the deck.
A mistake for sure but nothing would change I think. MBT would ring the first monarch, by the time he could frog tribute the second he would've died already.
If you're talking about game one then spy would have been best. Even if he ringed the first one the second would wall up with 2k defense
Mali, DDraw, DMoC and Trooper were very expensive and hard to find at the time, so you wouldn't really see those in janky decks, much less playsets. You would however see stuff like Fear Monger, Tomato, Dark City and other (terrible) Destiny Hero cards. The funniest thing about that deck was that you would usually not even win immediately after resolving a boardwipe because all you had were a bunch of 1400 idiots. The deck was still a lot of fun when pitted against other wacky playground decks and I have some fond memories of it.
This was what I was thinking as well. I used to play Jank almost exclusively and I barely had a Trooper but making a full blown Destiny Hero deck was more than possible, and yet very janky in terms of deck building.
Wasn't Trooper a common...? Or at most, a rare...?
I remember it being pretty easy to find when I was pulling old packs during 08.
@@aliesterus1.023 Nope, it was an Ultra rare in the packs it was introduced in, though it did come as a common in a structure deck in 09 (on top of having lower rarity releases in some of the years after)

I love how these are jank versions of good decks instead of just pure jank. Nice change of pace.
2007 yugioh players just built different. Can’t imagine the heart of the cards they’d get with a competently constructed deck
I like how MBT talks about how this version of DDT is the 'budget' version and that kids used this one and not the one with Dimension Fusion or Magical Stone Excavation, but weren't Destiny Draw, Destiny Hero - Malicious, and Card Trooper all also extremely expensive in early 2007? And this deck has a full playset of each?
Both of these decks only work when you're in person and you can cheat by stacking either Croaking or Treeborn respectively
the monarch deck undoubtedly requires stacking. Im sure, if you place a cydra, soul exchange, and brain control next to every monarch it plays pretty good
Cimo is just playing around Lightening Vortex by never being able to summon a monster. Can't destroy his monsters if he doesn't haven't any of them.

This was certainly the version I remembered more. The other versions were just 'D-hero' to me.

With a hand that does literally nothing without a repeatable tribute source? Yes. Cimo hard threw the first game, not that it looked great for him either way.
Yes generally, though there are always circumstances that make other searches better... Game 1 was not one of them...

This has become my favorite of all Cimo's series.
Cimo copies Gage's deck, then the very next day copies his opener skit by finally reading a card that was played 50 times the prior episode.

The missing context to the monarch deck is ygo was rampant with deck stacking at that time. So like pros would always have turn 1 frog.

This Monarch is actually a bit ahead of the curve for the strategy, it means to be a prototype for frognarch with substitoad where you dumbed 10~15 frogs leaving your deck fulls of power spells and monarchs. Slamming monarchs turn after on top of eachother will prove to be a very powerful deck
When you get to the Synchro era, here's a janky build I want to see:
Black Garden Slifer.
I'd heard it suggested for Cyberdarks, but I'm sure other builds work, if your opponent's can stick a summon unless it has >4000 ATK. Even Cyber End can't stay on the field.

I like how Cimo points out the Accumulated Fortune misplay and not the half a dozen others that were made by both of them. My favorite one was when he tried to Blowback Dragon the Mecha Dog Marron, apparently not reading the card and realizing that doing that just damages him and not MBT. It's my favorite because when he fails, MBT goes: "let's go!" basically indicating that he doesn't even read the cards that he put in his own deck.

MBT's Janky Adventure: Diamond Dude is Unbreakable
I'm pretty sure you can activate 2 copies of the chain cards (chain burn and accumulated) if its at the end of the chain such as chain1 chain 2, chain strike, accumulated, accumulated cause when you activate the second there isn't a same named card in the chain until that resolves
I am convinced that Snatch Steal is Cimo's staple. If we were to make a anime deck for Cimo, he would play Blackwings with Snatch Steal.
I imagine whoever got second place in that was stacking Treeborn or something because holy crap.

Hearing the breakdown of the Diamond Dude deck and the idea of someone having 3 Destiny Draw, 3 Destiny Hero - Malicious, 3 Card Trooper, and 1 Dark Magician of Chaos, but 0 copies of Dimension Fusion makes me giggle. The Dimension Fusion was absolutely the least expensive part of the puzzle back in those days.
You *did* see these decks... but they were ran before the Duelist Packs came out as jank from people trying to figure out how to make Destiny Hero - Diamond Dude good. Even I ran this kind of deck briefly, just to see what degenerate idiocy could come of it, and was friends with someone who found its entire existence to be one of the most hilarious things ever allowed.

I hope we will still see more "Stupid Boss Monster Turbo" decks with cards such as Mazera DeVile, Montage Dragon, Kasha, Zerato, and other similar ones. I hope we will see a Lycanthrope-centered deck. That wolfy was one of my favorite cards back in the day.
Really hope when we get to The Shining Darkness we see Des Frog OTK.
