- After Kublai's Khan's death, the Yuan dynasty would be ruled by his descendants. Starting the Mid-Yuan era, his grandson Temür Khan would take the reigns of the state, followed by his nephews Khayishan (Külüg Khan) and Ayurbarwada (Buyantu Khan). They would encounter interior and external conflicts, financial difficulties, corruption, and factional struggles.

Correction : the picture I used for Temür at 02:16 actually depicts Öljei Temür (1379-1412) leader of the Northern Yuan. The ones I used as from 03:38 are however correct. Apologies!
Need this continuity
Öljei Temür and Temür Khan:
Corporate needs you to find the difference between this picture and this picture.
my fast mind: they're the same picture
You make documentaries greater than Tv producers like BBC and history channel
Not the mid yuan I was looking for
Fantastic video as always! Would love to see a video on the Red Turban Rebellion that overthrew the Yuan dynasty
Thank you! It'll come up soon! Next video will be about the decline of the Yuan, and after that I'll cover Toghon Temur and the dynasty's collpase :)
Thank you for this very informative video about Yuan Dynasty. As someone who are very invested in Mongol and Chinese History, it is hard to find a good english documentary about Yuan Period of China. It will be fantastic if you make a video about Yuan dynasty fashion and the influence of mongol fashion on Han chinese at that era.
Thank you
Agreed, I second this
I'm glad you enjoy! I migth do so in a video covering society in the Yuan dynasty. For the time being, I want to finish covering historical events of the Great Yuan :)
Small mistake: in 2:16 you used the picture of Öljei Temür Khan, who was the Khan of the Northern Yuan a hundred years later. An easy mistake though because his portrait makes him look exactly like Temür, they even share a name :D
You are absolutely right, thank you! Sorry about that
Thanks for all your efforts in doing such a complete series !
Nice!! Yesterday I was watching your documentary about Kublai Khan again and now I am treated with this gem. Thank you very much.
Cheers! Next video to come will cover the decline of the Yuan dynasty (from 1320 to 1332)
It is a great pleasure to welcome a new video by History of China. This channel is the best contribution on the web in this important field of historical research.
Long time no see I have been watching your videos from April of this year and loving it u deserve way more subscribers. Keep making this amazing videos. After Yuan Dynasty will u make videos on the Ming Dynasty? Btw Keep making this amazing and quality videos ♥ peace!
Thank you so much! Absolutely. At this stage, I more or less intend to continually cover the history of China in chronological order until I link up with Nurhaci (late 16th to early 17th century) and the Qing dynasty, which I have already mostly covered. I will however also cover subjects that span throughout history such as the Imperial examination system, from time to time :)
Lol same
I've been waiting for this! I love your work man, keep it up.
Thank you so much! Will do :)
This is a severely underrated topic that is essential in the history of China.
bro its not that mid anymore, erudition path rocks
LOL
Yay always look forward to your uploads
Absolutely! Same with Khanbaliq (Dadu) aka Cambaluc :)

@@History_of_China You're welcome! Be well! ^.^
i cannot wait for the nxt episode
Thx for sharing the valuable historical knowledge!
My pleasure! Thanks for following :)
Finally new video
Fantastic video, I've been using your content to better help my pronunciation of Mongolian and Chinese, so I'm really glad I found this channel.
It seems problems plagued the Great Yuan since day one, from it's inability to stabilize it's finances to the conflicts between Mongols who adopted Ruism and the more conservative Mongol nobility, who rejected Chinese culture.
I wonder how different things would be if the Mongols managed to do what the Manchus would centuries later, assuming it was possible. Could the Great Yuan have become a longer lasting Chinese dynasty, or was it doomed to fail from the start I wonder.
Glad you enjoyed! Please take my Mongolian pronunciation with a grain of salt, though ; it is definitely not as precise as my Chinese :)
That's a good question! I think even if it had had a more harmonious system, the ethnic differences between rulers and subjects, and great natural disasters/terrible weather (snowfalls in the north, and droughts and floods in the south) of the late Yuan dynasty would have inevitably led to rebellions. It probably would have laster a few more years, if not decades, though!
Natural disasters, including a mini-Ice Age really hammered the nail in the coffin.
dude your channel... you are the best.
Pershendetje nga Shqiperia! History of China më shpëtoi jetën dhe kotelet e mia, ai është një njeri i madh dhe një tregimtar i mrekullueshëm!
The Yuan dynasty is one of history's biggest what-ifs. What if it managed to successfully intergrate all cultures and religions under its rule and sorted out its financial difficulties? What if its conquest of Japan, Khmer, and Java were successful? Would it still shut itself off from the world like later Ming and Qing dynasties did? Or would it be more open thanks to its contacts to the rest of the world through other Mongol khanates?
“Taxes were introduced and raised, but no measures were taken to reduce government expenditure”
The more things change the more they stay the same
IT'S HERE!!
good viiiid!
Thank you !
underrated channel
Thanks.
Hi, can you make a video about the Second Sino-Japanese War? I know you made a few reference in the Puyi video but I'd love to watch a video about the War and Puyi/Chiang/Hirotito's point of view, thanks!
Hi! I plan to finish the Yuan dynasty first, but I'll keep that in mind :)
Thank you for describing about Angkor empire, which written by Zhou Daguan.
A fascinating civilisation indeed!
This history video is quite interesting. 🤔
Glad you enjoyed it :)
You should make a video on the song dynasty :)
I definitely will eventually! Pivital dynasty of China's history :)
Your content is awesome, all you need is a bit o click bait. You'll fly high!
Thank you! I have my reservations about clickbait, but it does seem somewhat necessary!
Side note of the story though. The drawing of these historical figures look kinda cool
Shangdu, otherwise known in the West as Xanadu.
In Hmong we call it Saum Ntuj
can you make a video about how yuan dynasty treat its tributary country's and its subjects
I might cover society in the Yuan dynasty in a dedicated video, but for the time being, I'd like to finish covering its chronological history :)
Can you please make a video on Northern Yuan Dynasty
I probably won't, at least for now, since the Northern Yuan wasn't a dynasty of China. I will mention them a lot during my Ming series though given the strong interactions between the two!
Conquering was the fun part. Governing is a bum rap. Pretty sure the court scene came from justice pao which is set in the earlier sung 😊dynasty
can you make Video series on Tang dynasty?
I plan to eventually! But not gonna lie I have many projects planned first, like the Ming dynasty :)
I would love to know the movie or tv shows at 19:52 please
Man i can't wait for some more Warlord Era!
👍👍👍
Genghis Khan: I just want to make friend but those guy keep killing my emmisaries hence I keep destroy them.
Bribery economy still exists in Mongolia today. You can’t get anything done without bribing the local authorities.

New video!
how does it go with the two episodes and when will they be relesed.?:D
Next video tomorrow at the latest! The following one is written, and I'll start editting pretty soon :)
@@History_of_China do you think the second episode will be relesed mid late next week.?:) im sorry if i am annoying im just a autistic swedish guy🇸🇪 who loves history very very veeery much and speciely vikings and mongols and I see the mongols as the chinese siberian vikings just as brutal hard but also sometime soft peacefull and kind.:)
@@markusforsberg6741 Not likely I'm afraid... The editing is what takes the longest. But no worries Markus, I share your passion for history and really appreciate your support :)
Interesting comparison between the Vikings and Mongols!
@@History_of_China okey I understand.:) then it mayby will take two weeks for second episode of the yuan dynasty.:)
FINALY AFTER 10 MONTHS!!!!
I made two videos about Rabban Bar Sauma (in February and May), which took some time away from the Yuan strictly speaking, but I'll resume until the dynasty's end now :)

I always think it is necessary to clarify one point: Outer Mongolia, that is, Karka Mongolia, comes from the captured and surrendered non-Mongolian tribes. So it is called Outer Mongolia, which is a non-core vassal. Inner Mongolia is the core tribe of the Mongolian nation.
It is called Outer Mongolia because it is outside the PRC. That's all there is to it. The Mongolian Republic is an independent country led by Mongolians. Inner Mongolia is a province of China, its people are a mix of Mongolians and Chinese. I dare say that Inner Mongolians have become more Chinese than true Mongolian, following each generation.
@@ElBandito Another troll who sees his fantasies as history. Outer Mongolia was a slave tribe conquered by the Luo tribe led by the Golden Family. After the alliance between the core twelve tribes and the Qing Empire moved south to Inner Mongolia, these slaves occupied the Outer Mongolia region we abandoned. When handed over to them, the Outer Mongolia region was still a land of abundant water and grass, and now it has been turned into a desert by them. The reason why they became slaves is because of the despicable personality in their humble blood. In the past, these despicable people defected to the barbarian Ross and even gave up their language and history. Now they have the delusion of defecting to N*zi Germany and seizing land that does not belong to them.
@@ElBandito Go to the barbarian Ross, and then kill all the bloodlines of the Golden Family, abandon Mongolian, switch to Ross script, and let the Ross people create a new set of history for themselves. This is the memory left by the barbaric tribes of Outer Mongolia. This hatred will never be forgotten.
@@siroyiryuu Bro, first, fix your English. Second, you are being incredibly rude. Third, Outer Mongolians are at least free to watch CZcams. In China you can't watch CZcams legally, which is pathetic. Living in China sucks for the freedom loving true Mongolians. You cannot even type any of these in social media without getting arrested.

@@ElBandito Interestingly, your speech indicates that you are an uneducated person who has not received a good education and only repeats machine nonsense. If you don't even understand the true Mongolian language and can't distinguish between the Mongolian and Han ethnic groups, don't talk nonsense here.
You must be an absolute expert for more than 1000 years of Chinese history by now.
It is a confusing history at times. It is full of intrigues, family affairs, tribal wars and complicated internal affairs.
I wish you had given some form of time indication on the respective thumbnails.
Thanks! I wouldn't know about being an absolute expert, but I certainly have accumulated a bit of knowledge :) I agree with you, it is so incredibly dense that a lot has to be covered, even in short intervals of history.
I'll take your remark about time indications on thumbnails into consideration, thanks!
Ultimately it was the tradition that failed Yuan

From my understanding, although it did become a functionnal town during the Yuan dynasty, it always remained small and more of an imperial retreat than anything else in terms of the imperial court
@@History_of_China I meant like is it a modern city now
@@emersonbouillon No, it was destroyed after the collapse of the Yuan dynasty, though I think it is an archelogical site today

I notice the Mongols all have very very short lifespan. I mean people back in the day live at least into their 50s.
It is an important detail! This was in part due to unhealthy lifestyles. The Yuan emperors were infamous for drinking much too much alcohol
@@History_of_China btw I think a lot of us are very excited, and really looking forward to the Southern Song Dynasty videos. no pressure, and I wish you all the best.

I still consider the Yuan a true Chinese dynasty even in the form of the northern Yuan during the Ming, even if they were not Han they were sinified enough in my eyes, now time for some Outer Mongolia-PRC reunification!
I am mongol, writing from Mongolia.Mongol empire was the most strong military power in all human history. It was much more powerful than -romans,British empire,Soviet Union and USA.Such strong power will never again.
might is constant, only genghis was great , so basically you are mostly weak, you are at the mercy of other nations now and most of history, be thankful that chinese or russians or koreans or japanese are not like genghis, otherwise you wouldnt exist anymore as people ,pray the god you dont see greatness of your khan on you
today Mongolia is Khalkha tribe, one tribe from 30-40 mongolia tribes, possibly the poorest one. Now the Mongol system is inherited by Russia
There are countless mongolic people still living all over central asian countries, russia and china....the strenght of their ancestors are still there
And what happened now??
Hmmm… you’d have a point if you have a space horde across the galactic steppes tumbling down agrarian alien civilizations
