- We end 2019 battling with a round of leaky radiators, but the inhabitants of the chateau prevail! And we put all of that plumbing nonsense behind us and celebrate the start of the brand new Twenties with a 1920s themed Murder Mystery party. Whodunnit??? 😉👸🏼🥂

Had a great laugh over the thought of a 500kg hedgehog. He would survive many, many hibernations at that weight.
I remember how happy I was to celebrate 2020 too. How could anyone guess that our lives would change completely? 😢

I’m rewatching this in January 2022…. It’s incredible what the world has been through…. However Chateau Diaries and the delightful Lalanders continue to delight and inspire, I’m very thankful for that. I hope all is well with you IJH and that those you love have remained well.💐

I’m watching this in November 2023 (great video!) and was thinking the same thing. Who knew what was just round the corner…. Thankfully it worked out so well for Stephanie and the Lalanders and we all came to know and love them through lockdown. So much has and is now being done at the chateau and the new heating system will be have the grand ‘turn on’ soon 🎉🎉🎉❤

OH! MY!!! The New Years Eve Murder Mystery Party was AWESOME! Everyone participates and falls in line....What Precious People you have around you Stephanie!....I found your channel 6 weeks ago...I love seeing the vlogs from the beginning,. Every now and then I get impatient and see the new ones...and the middle ones. Each and everyone is filled with surprises. It is AMAZING how much has been accomplished in such a sort time...
The men, together, sorting the radiator almost disasters....your darling hedgehog🦔💜 needing to be fattened up...Never a dull moment at Chateau de Lalande . Husband is a plumber and was terrified of what was happening at the beginning. Hot tip: next time u need to remove radiators empty the system first, there should be a emptying valve somewhere. And then you only have to.worry about the water from the radiator.
If that hedgehog gets up to 500kg, you'll have to leave the chateau :)

I do love a good costume party. A number of years ago I hosted "A Royal Affair" back in 1983 when Prince Charles and Princess Diana were in Edmonton for
the Universiade Games. The invitations stipulated that a dish be brought to the party prepared by the household of the royal families. King Kamehameha and
his wife brought stuffed pineapples, the King and Queens of Hearts brought a tray of strawberry tarts, Arthur Wellesley and his wife brought Beef Wellington.
I could go on and on about the food. There were about 40 of us in attendance and the theme was a catalyst for endless imagination. I'd worked for a month
on heraldic crests that were distributed throughout my backyard. Anyhow, Stephanie, maybe one day use that as a theme for an unforgetable dinner party.

Oh dear, oh dear... watching this eleven months later, as you excitedly await the arrival of 2020, it is almost painful to watch. Who knew what a miserable year it would turn out to be? But, I think a lot of us owe our sanity to you. Thank you for all of your optimism amidst all of the gloom!

For someone who will never be in a Chateau, I would love to see when you walk from room to room instead of a cut away. I was so excited when you started to go down to the basement but you cut out the shot. It's the nooks and crannies of lost lives that is fascinating.

Fabulous theme for the New Year! Thank you for entertaining us in 2019, looking forward to more of everything in 2020. The week seems quite long without the Christmas Diaries! Plumbing problems I can identify with - two days before Xmas the loo flush broke and we were expecting 30 people! A temporary repair by 'just the bloke' solved the problem until the whole unit can be removed from the wall etc! Best wishes from NZ.

I think I remember seeing a baker using a wood oven use a big clean mop saturated with water give the bricks a quick swipe to clean the ash off. I'd try it.

Another fun video (well, the presents and the party - not the radiators!) I think your hedgehog should weigh over 500 grams NOT 500 kilograms or he would be the size of 2 baby elephants - I think you would definitely notice the difference even in your large chateau - funny!! Is Brenda your fairy godmother? Perhaps she exists alongside your resident ghost? Seem to be 2 very kind souls anyway. Happy New Year to you all!

As usual you cope with all that happens and it works out well. Michael is so enterprising as well fixing things up, that is why you have the chateau which could not be in better hands. Shortbread does make up for all the hard work the boys put in, what a treat made by the unflappable Stephanie, with a great party to follow what a great way to end 2019. Felt so sorry about the damage. Similar has happened to me and its heartbreaking (even in my ordinary house).
Anyway, happy new year.
PS dont know if hedgehogs are like tortoises but mine go into their house with plenty of hay and come out on sunny days to eat a very little. I think you have done well to provide a box but allow it to come out if it wants to.

Oh what fun that party seemed to have been. Hello the 20"s! 2020's that is. And for the not so fun plumbing problem already a story of the last decade, may I suggest a new solution: rather than investing in another radiator, why not leaving the two already in place as is and investing the money in a new less drafty window. Same for the now smaller radiator in the other bedroom.
Love the New Year party - pullllleeeeze tell me the hedgehog made it through hibernation ? 🙂
