    Love your reviews that show the dive computers in actual use! It's really great to see how the computer behaves under water and how the information is shown in practice at various stages of the dive. Much appreciated!

      you bet! I always hated the reviews that looked like they came from the manufacturer where they were just pushing buttons on a white background. I wanted to see it on a dive! SO, here we are! :)

      @@TeachMeToDive You're the best! It is really strange to see a review of a dive computer without the actual dive. 90% of them look like a dealer presentation not a review.

    Hi. Great review, as a recreational diver this is the equipment which I want to use.
    To be honest Suunto ocean was delivered to my door yesterday.
    To clarify I think there is an option to change deco level/ safety stop between 3 and 6 meters. Which will give you 10/20 feet.
    Looking forward to first dive with this computer in about 2-3 weeks

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem +1

      There is definitly a setting for that for sure. (it seams to ignore it though. We changed it on a subsequent dive and it still set a 10' SS and a ceiling of 10'. I have other Suunto computers though, and they all do the same thing :)

  • @hitchjay
    @hitchjay Před měsícem +1

    Just a note regarding telling people to read the manual to understand what GF means. It might give some divers the wrong idea where understanding GF qualifies you to enter deco. Please, you must take the required training and have working understanding of decompression theory. While it's true that GF Low / High boils down to when is your first deco and the length of your last stop before end of dive, it is prudent to understand the effect of GF on nitrogen tissue loading.
    Dive safe and stay safe.
    Love you reviews. Keep it up please.
    Looking forward to your head 2 head video between Suunto Ocean and Garmin MK3i

      WE SO AGREE! We do like to put in notes and warnings, often, that if you don't understand technical diving and aren't certified, to PLEASE, take a class from a certified human... NOT CZcams :) lol Thank you for pointing this out!

    Will you cover freediving too? Also showing the dive app after a dive and what you can see on datas and also export from the app - for scuba as for freediving?

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately, we don't do anything with Freediving. As for the AP, not in this video, but we are covering that in the head-to-head video against Garmin.

    I have a Suunto D5 which is nice but the battery life is not great. How does the Ocean battery life compare to the D5? Also for the D5 there's a different type of tank pod, can I use the same pod for the Suunto Ocean?

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem +1

      The D5 and the Ocean should be compatible with the same transmitter. As for Battery life, the Ocean has a very long battery and should be a MAJOR improvement over your D5

    Thanks for the great video. When you review the app, I'd like to see your underwater dive path and if the data can be exported. Does the app let you take a screenshot of the path? (I know some apps like banking prevent screenshots)

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem

      So, here are my thoughts on that. The dive path was highly inaccurate for these tests. I am not sure if it was due to the way we dove with the computer or not, but it really didn't represent our path at all. It did show our starting and ending points very well though. As for the ap, it is a little more basic than we would prefer, and while it gives the desired info, the dive graph is a little more tough to follow in technical form.

  • @Davethegrohl
    @Davethegrohl Před 25 dny

    Did you evaluate the dive route functionality that creates a 3D map of your dive? How did you find its use?

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před 25 dny

      We did, and while sometimes it wasn't to far off, a lot of times it was wildly off. I also found the map/data interesting for a little bit, but not super useful. The traditional depth graph was more useful. This is also an area that Suunto is laking for sure. By comparison to the Garmin or the Shearwater, it is REALLY tough to use.

  • @airo.pi_
    @airo.pi_ Před měsícem

    So, the "underwater GPS" isn't available underwater right ? Like we don't have a way to know where we came from while we are underwater ?
    I think it's something the Apple Watch Ultra provide, with "pinpoints" available in the compass view

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem +1

      So, yes and no. There are some companies working on underwater GPS, but it is still a ways away. Right now though, Garmin & Suunto have an "accelerometer" available for diving. Unfortunately, none of them are super accurate or consistently accurate though.

    Seems like the Tern TX at a similar price point have more tech features (for diving, not all the other non-diving features this one has).
    What kills this one for me is that it doesn't support something as simple as sidemount, but seems to me that it could be fixed with a software update if they wanted to.

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem +1

      We have been hearing from Suunto that they will be or are working on a SM for the last 18 months. Who knows, maybe it will show up. But, Tern Peregrine. I am a Peregrin Fan. The Tern TX is a nice, simple watch, but as a surface and data watch, it is just that "a watch" lol

    • @dclangst
      @dclangst Před měsícem +1

      What kills it for me is Suunto being Suunto and not just using the standard algorithm. Yeah yeah yeah. More conservative but if I’m buying something this much for the features I don’t need or want a nanny.

    • @TeachMeToDive
      @TeachMeToDive  Před měsícem

      @@dclangst I agree with that. It is funny, to dive Suunto against a Perdix (or any other tech computer with GF), I set the rest to 50/85 and the Suunto to 55/90 so that they come up about the same.
