Good tip on the 3/4" spacer under the base sortainer and the 3/4" pullout for placing your drill and such. Those little things you share with us is the reason you pull in the big buck$! Just made my first cabinet for the AZ drawer slides. Won't be making as many as you have to fill a wall, but mine will be on 2" wheels so can move around in the shop. Went well and your video was extremely helpful. The Festool instructions alone may not have led to the same outcome. Thank you, Sedge!

    I don't understand your comment about putting the base between the sides. The weight is attached to the sides - and if the base is sitting on the ground then the sides need to be on top of the base, like on the Festool diagram, so the weight is transferred correctly to the base. What you have done is great if the unit is to be hung on the wall, say with French cleats, attached to the sides. Peter Millard has a nice video explaining the various stresses - and talking of Peter - how about inviting him as one of your guests in Shop Talk?

      I've been a supporter of Peter Millard for some time now, he's a great cabinet maker with years of experience and knowledge. I have twenty drawers that I have collected and will be building ten cabinets identical to these, but the tops and bottoms will be on the top and bottom and the backs will be enclosed. The reason is at some point these will all have to go, and when they do, they can be converted into a Sys-Port by just adding casters to the bottom. This will make them more sellable than just a wall unit would be, well that's the plan anyway. I hope this makes sense.
      All the Best, Chuck.

    Sedge, I'm building 10 of these cabinets in about two months. I have poured over my configuration many times to try and ensure that I'm going to be able to fit my forty plus systainers. According to the SYS-AZ Drawer instructions (as an example) the T-LOC SYS-4 should occupy eleven holes, does that include the hole for the black latches? Also, what are the hole dimensions for the SYS3 rails? I can't find it anywhere if I wanted to pre-drill holes using the LR-32 system for them. I know the cabinet width dimensions are 417mm for the rails vs 428mm for the SYS-AZ drawers, but I think a 4~4.5mm shim on either side might work to be able to utilize them in the same cabinet.
    P.S.
    I got a set of rails from my local dealer and the hole dimensions on center are from the front of the rail, even with the systainer's front they are, 30mm, 97mm, 93mm, 110mm. Very oddly spaced, and except for the first hole which is round (6.3mm Dia), the other three are elongated (6.3mm tall x 13.3mm long).
    Sedge any help will be greatly appreciated. 😁
    All the Best, Chuck.

    • @sedgetool
      @sedgetool  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Hey chuck.... The best advice that I can give is to build your cabinet whether for the rails or the sys AZ drawers and bore top to bottom 32 mm hole system with a 5mm bore...... then go from there .... yes a shim does work ....

    • @toolchuck
      @toolchuck Před 11 měsíci

      Hey Sedge, I believe I have it all figured out. So, you think shims will work, good. I'll be attacking this in about 6 weeks or so. I'll let you know how the AZ Drawers and rails work together, or at least how I decided to implement it.
      All the Best, Chuck.

    Thousands of $ in flimsy plastic boxes, takes up a whole wall. You have to take a box out, find a place to put it down, undo the latch after you figure out which way to turn it, open the lid to even see what's inside? Not better, IMO. I have a Domino, with it's Festool box, and one for the tenons. You need more than 3 SF of counter space just to access the tool & pins, plus the space to store when not being used. The tool is good but delicate, but the boxes are a waste.

      @@sedgetool It looks like there are 16 boxes so roughly 107CU'? At $300 to fill each is about $5,000 plus maybe 9 sheets of plywood. For about the same cubic footage, I store 30+ power tools, 30+ boxes (50lb type) of fasteners, hundreds of lbs of bolts & large fasteners, trays of plumbing fittings, nipple trays, large amounts of plumbing, electrical, cabinet supplies, and over 500 types sorted screws & nails, ~50 per drawer each accessed with a single motion. I doubt I've spent more than $200. So arguably 10x the capacity, 5% the cost, better access, and takes up less wall space.

    I was using these drawers for the past 3 years, in the workshop and the bus. Terrible quality, terribly made, very annoying and I hate everything about it. Lately I made my own drawers from plywood and quality rails - it's cheaper, more sturdy, smooth travel, self-close system. I would never ever go back to these plastic ones...
