Some people may think that this quest has nothing do to with Zhongli, I think not. The story of Zhongli is obviously going to be very long, thus it cannot be revealed to the audience directly. The story of Havria gives the audience a little taste and sets up the attitude and tone of what Zhongli's story will be in the future. The most important thing is that Zhongli's attitude during the archon war is revealed in this quest, which is "yield to your enemies won't save yourself", "during an era of a chaotic time, it's not about the simple good-evil concept", etc., the part of the reason why he survived the archon war. As he said, the story of Havria gave him a warning. We can guess that Zhongli too, tried to do the same as Havria until she was killed, and that's when he became ruthless towards the aggressors. The characters like the girl and the so-called archeologists on the ship are living examples of various types of ignorant people when it comes to history, who only believe what they want to believe and have a very twisted way of looking at history. This tells the audience that they too need to think about how they should look at the history of Zhongli. He might not be a total bad guy like the girl said he was, he was also not a powerful saint like the archeologists thought he was, but he's trustworthy for he values the contracts. In general, for a prologue for Zhongli's legend, I think it's a very good start.

@@ClownDollThatHasContemptForYou I leveled up Barbara because I somehow max Constellation her in 1 month...why Mihoyo...those were all F2P primogems, I have never even bought a primogem.
I also recognized the story of Havria and her people from one of the diaries we find during our exploration. While I hated how Wanyan was so adamant that Morax (Zhongli) killed Havria and couldn't accept the truth when she told him to accept the truth, I could only blame her people for distorting the truth to their younger generation.
Agreed. However, I do like how the devs have incorporated a religious system with characters who feel deeply for the gods they worship. It's actually quite fascinating that the game quite literally revolves around the people of the world of Tevyat worshipping seven (or possibly more than one) gods. I also realized that Venti seems to represent the Christian God. He is out of sight but comes in forms to aid the people he deems worthy and there is a church and statue in Mondstadt erected in his honor
"Right, the Lord of Geo wouldn't kill the innocent." Me, when I first did this quest: Yeah that's right. You tell her, Paimon. Me, now: *sweats nervously*
Pretty sure that he, like Venti, can sense that you are not from this world. Also Venti granted you the power of wind, so more than likely when you attuned to geo, you borrowed power from Zhongli/Morax, hence why he knows.
@@typhir5911 and morax didn’t grant the traveler the power of geo. More so the traveler took it without permission. Or maybe paimon is the one who gives/guides the elemental power to the traveler like albedo suggested.
34:42 "Faith in a god who has already passed will do you no good." hits different when you go to sumeru where that's quite literally the entire plot. their loyalty to their first archon blinded them so much that they were willing to do everything to kill and despise their current archon (which spoilers is literally the same person they just dont know that). so to think that this one line would be brought back in such a major way is so rewarding
History is sad, even if one was victorious another must have suffered the loss, not to mention all nations have a lot of both loss and victory, some in different ways, some more than others. We may only learn from them, to respect one another, and yet we haven't, perhaps this is yet another tragedy that will enter History for more generations to learn a lesson, that will yet again ignore, for even while learning doubt and dinal however small will gradually eat away at the wisdom gathered by the old and by the ancient.
@@SOLO.DANDELION Well-said dude, what we learn from history will decide our future. history is never a simple cycle, slowly but surely, we are moving ahead.
@@colinzou2803 I don’t know. The more I learn about history, the more I realize history repeats itself with a more modern system each time. It’s kind of depressing honestly.
When I first went through this story, I thought that Zhongli was being too anal for really odd reasons - but the more I think about it, the more I think that this was his round-about way of protecting the relics and the God of Salt's resting place. He knew that the two would break the contract, so it was meant to make sure Havria's relics were left untouched and abused
the rules of the contracts were awfully specific to the point where you know he went down there countless times to see and maybe grieve over the loss of Havria.
This storyline is surprisingly dark You are walking around an abandoned city, filled with the petrified remains of people who were dead before they even knew it
@@professorkirby9079 what lol meant was that the people inside of the statues (especially the ones near the center of the incident) got petrified so quickly to the point where they couldn’t process that they were dying, evidenced by their panicked body postures which imply that they were too busy running away
@@haxosop7648 You misunderstand. Of course they know what’s happening, it’s just they are panicking too much to process what is going on rationally. Imagine yourself in that situation and see if you have enough time to think about anything else except for running
ironically being how he is the creator of mora, commerce and stability - Zhongli cant be trusted with a purse, has no understanding of monetary value and cant haggle for his life.
Zhongli will probably become the next Manager after Hu tao dies, though it would be strange to see a guy that is still in is 20s-30s after people that were younger than him died lol
37:56 there's alot of memories zhongli wants to forget from a thousands of years ago. It's like a type of erosion he endured for a very long time but it still keeps coming back to him. I still remember what he said during the "beneath the light of jadeite" quest, "Personally sealing away an old friend is one form of erosion i had endured" with a sad expression on his face :( he even lost some of his fellow god buddies, he even lost 'her' during the archon war. It must've been tough for morax to live for another thousand years traveling and going back to places he once went with his friends :((
To be fair...Oceanid is considered the worst enemy in the game by MANY, and even those who don't struggle too much are still traumatized by angry waddling ducks, tailslapping squirrels and divebomb birds (and omg those carwash crabs, they are the worst imo x.x)
I love fighting it but yeah, when he figures out the fight he be higher AR, i would even hate to be world lvl 5+ and randomly fight oceanid first time.
She’s also a hypocrite too. She said something about judging fairly about whatever happens about Morax, apparently it only applies to people who worships Morax and not her & her Salt God.
Venti's and Zhongli's stories left me feeling kinda sad so after the end of their tales, I just stood besides them, not wanting to leave them alone. They are so precious
This is why i love this game. The whole open world that you constantly wander has history in it. And you find out that history from either messing around in the areas, reading old texts throughout the land, or just talking with characters that can explain the history. And despite its vibrant anime look, this history is depressing/relatable as fuck, therefore making us more attached to the characters. Beautiful
@@thorsal6208 A lot of stories in the game are just morbid. There is one where a girl killed herself at the Liyue water source and the body started polluting it, and they just slapped it onto the billboard in town. It's not even a quest I wouldn't have known abt it if I didn't randomly start talking to an NPC
The fact that everyone thinks how Zhongli is just an old man forgetting his money all the time, but after this storyline, we really do realize how much knowledge and burden he carries on his back for the rest of his life, not being able to forget. I have deep respects for him. He might be a god like Venti. But he's on a different level, and that makes him so special.
Venti and zhongli is the two oldest archon and back in the archon war venti blew a mountain up and killed a few gods too they're also one of the original seven that survived the archon war (kinda hard to believe on how the way venti act)
I'm so late to comment! But this story quest is by far the deepest and most thought provoking on tackling the problem of doing history, such as believing and recording only "truths" that you want to believe in, or doing it solely for wealth or other interests, and so on. I love this story quest as a history student
I love Zhongli so much. Everyone thinks of Morax as a brutish and violent god, but he's really just an adorable dude who's too humble for his own good and calls you 'friend' whenever he can, even though he'll drop a meteor on your head if he has to. Being serious though, sometimes he comes across as really lonely and it made me feel like hugging him by the end of his quest.
Well he was indeed a brutish and merciless god, hence the name ‘God of War’. He fought every enemy he came across in his time as a god. But because of centuries of being an Archon and years after the Archon war, I believe Zhongli realize that he’s growing tired and everyday was the same for him. He has no more enemies to kill or to seal, his job was to act as an Archon and look over Liyue until he decided to fake his death.
@@rishavsinha3028 I think he was called war god, but besides that it was during the archon war, the pyro archon is currently called the war god but she wasn't in the war. She isn't the original 7.
@@rishavsinha3028 Probably not. The current dendro archon is the god of wisdom, but the one before him was the god of woods. So the past pyro archon(s) probably had some other ideal(s).
@@morax9758 Guizhong is an old friend of Zhongli! she was the Goddess of Dust and got killed for possibly unknown reasons during the archon war, and she was also the one who made the Ballistas I think? hence why it's named after her!
@@swervesbar I don't know who killed her but it has something to do with ocean, It was mentioned that the Guili plains was drowned and it also has something to do with Zhongli's hatred for sea food which he said he doesn't want to talk about. I'm guessing it has something to do with Osial since Xiao also said he is familiar with Osial's powers and he is a Yashka from the Guili plains
You know what? I wanna see the genshin prequel, especially the archon war. Maybe as a manga or just they make a long storytelling in their youtube channel just like they explain the honkai impact lore.
Rite. Me too. At first, I was like feeling all these negative things about her like why is she like that. I know she's a god that loves her people but love wasn't just enough especially at that time to protect her people. But I keep coming back to read her story quest and the more I know the more I feel sorry towards her. Like she's just that kind of god who is gentle and approach war differently from the other god but unfortunately, her believe don't really fit in at that time and it is the sole reason why she was betrayed. Her story are the most touching for me of all the story quest in this game.

@@whiteliliath4824 I know right? I‘m really getting tired of all those shippers in almost every Zhongli video. „Guizhong abd Zhongli are canon!!“. No they are not, its only fanfiction. As long as the developers arent saying that its canon, its not. Apperently, a frienship can‘t exist, no two people in this game must be lovers smh. Its quite sad bc I think friendship plays a huge role in this game
@@rosem.gottschalk9528 if you own him tho in his character description About Us- Confusion he says Contracts can not be used to define friendship, nor measure sentiment. So just what can we use to measure the weight of our emotions? Do you know the answer, friend? He’s basically saying he’s growing attached to the traveler.
I like how when your character says “It’s like you’re talking about another person” and Zhongli replies with “Well, I am talking about Rex Lapis”, the latter statement has a dual purpose. He talks about Rex Lapis as if he himself isn’t Rex Lapis, to hide his identity to the people around him. But at the same time, Zhongli truly isn’t Rex Lapis, at least, not anymore. By the end of the last Archon Quest, Zhongli gave up his title as the Archon of Geo. The Liyue that Rex Lapis himself created no longer exists, it changed over the thousands of years that Rex Lapis has guarded the land from afar. Rex Lapis no longer needed to fulfill his duties, Liyue is a land that can protect itself. Zhongli doesn’t need to shoulder the weight Rex Lapis holds, because he no longer IS Rex Lapis, he has fully transformed into Zhongli to live like a mortal alongside modern Liyue’s people. When Zhongli is talking about Rex Lapis, he really is talking about another person.
That’s true. But it also hit me as well. Unrelated but remember Xiao? Xiao is the last yaksha and yaksha’s job is to eliminate demons. In the Xiao story, 4 yakshas were either dead or left without a trace because the karmic debt was too much for them to bear and Xiao is the only one that was left. The karmic debt was nothing new to Xiao and he is able to keep his sanity. But what if, one day, he finally lost control? Who is gonna save Xiao and who is gonna end his suffering? Sure, there are 3 adeptus that could end his suffering, but what if he is stronger than the 3? Do you think Zhongli would just give up and force himself to fight back for the sake of Liyue’s safety? You don’t have to answer this comment, it’s just a random thought that came to my mind (feel free to reply if you want).
@@avocado3-in-182 Considering how powerful Osial is, and that it had to take the combined power of all the Adeptus and the Qixing (including Xiao) to stop it, I would say that, if karmic debt were to finally seize Xiao’s mind and send him down a spiral of pain, agony, and hatred, I would think that he can be stopped. If such a thing were to happen, I would hope that the Traveller and the other adepti can find a way to peacefully set Xiao free of his suffering without the need for violence... perhaps with the help of Zhongli, who could briefly take the form of Rex Lapis to help Xiao, if that is necessary. As of the time of writing, we don’t need to worry about anything bad happening to Xiao, since nothing insanely bad is happening in the story.
@@avocado3-in-182 You forgot the fact that Zhongli is the prime of the Adepti. He bodied many gods before he became an archon. so yeah he doesn’t need Gnosis to be strong. He could just use his Adeptus power to kill Xiao. Remember, It takes 6 Adepti to beat Osial and Zhongli beat the shit out of him alone in the past. during the last archon quest, Paimon said that if the chaos is past the point of no return, Zhongli would appears and deal with Osial himself. even Signora implied that it would be too easy for Zhongli too.

In his story 2, it's said that there's almost always someone -- mostly from one of his elite friends -- who will pay for his dues. He likes all kind of rich-related things like watching an opera or eating at a 5* restaurant on a regular basis. However, the dude doesn't even know the actual value of mora the way the people of Liyue does... he saw something, he wants it, then he gets it like Ariana Grande. He will even pay for it a lot more generously than the actual price because there's always someone who will shoulder it for him (because grandpa always forgot to bring mora with him). Dude's an actual bourgeoisie parasite, that’s why he got butthurt when Paimon implied him as a parasite to the society, -because he’s unironically one.-
Wanyan (crying): “Please stop, I don’t understand what you’re saying! You’re not even making any sense!” Zhongli: “And then his friend said “only a spoonful”. This led to King Bach pulling out a comically large spoon.”
Zhongli's retirement inadvertent consequences: 1) Destroyed Liyue's mint and mora production 2) Made the sea saltier by throwing the salt production relics into the sea. Soon it shall be the Guyun Dead Sea.
@@RazanAr51 Then he officially destroyed one of the biggest ecosystems of the whole continent, started the possibly biggest species extinction in the history of the whole world (yes, bigger than the archon war) and caused a catastrophe for the fishermen of the whole continent (since their main income is floating belly-up on the ocean), including lots ob jobless people falling into poverty. This is the stepping-down-without-saving-money-for-himself-first situation all over again
I find it ironic that the girl says “its history is written as he wishes” but her own god’s history is written as her ancestors wrote to hide their betrayal of their god.

Well he was indeed a brutish and merciless god, hence the name ‘God of War’. He fought every enemy he came across in his time as a god. But because of centuries of being an Archon and years after the Archon war, I believe Zhongli realize that he’s growing tired and everyday was the same for him. Zhongli everytime someone breaks a contract: Your free trial of living has ended
