Thanks for video spent my summer if 89 working on the trail from glen pass to bubba creek bridge
This video is incredible. I've never found a more aesthetic backpacking video that showed pieces of who you are and how much you love what you do! Thanks for sharing :)
Thanks so much!
Beautifully done!!!! Thank you for sharing!!!!!
I love it in how you put your energy in making your hiking adventures. It was a pleasure to watch.
Very nice. Great photography.
Awesome shots and editing. One of my favs in the Sierra.
This video was awesome!!! I’m doing this exact route in 3 weeks! 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Well done! Thank you for sharing an amazing experience.
This is a fantastic video, thanks for all the honesty of the challenges and accomplishments. Great shots and editing. You guys are awesome.
Awesome! I hiked the Rae Lakes Loop trail 10 years ago. It's wonderful to watch your story.
so enjoyed, thank you!
Well done Chris!
I just discovered this gem.... I have to admit I love your little animations as they somehow make the video even better.... great job Chris!!!
Thanks so much for sharing. I've been wanting to head to some of these places!
Simply beautiful in all the right ways. God's blessings to you and your family. Thank you for sharing your gifts, your loving examples, and the awesome adventure.
Thanks so much for your kind words. :)
Awesome job Chris.
Lawson Kline thanks brotha!
Incredible video !! I might not be able to do this hike but watching through your lens makes me feel like i did
thanks for sharing! loving it!
Thanks!
Glen pass is the hardest one on the JMT!!!! i did it as the second pass of the day and i ugly cried on the way up, at the top, and part of the way down!!!
Wow, 2nd of that day! Did you do Pinchot or Forester? Both of those are pretty tough too. (and awesome).
Awesome. Was there 15 years ago and need to get back...
Beautifully done!
Thanks Marky Mark!
Awesome video... nicely done!
Awesome video! Love hiking in the Sierras.
Excellent documentary guys. You deserve waaaay more subs. Keep at it!
Incredibly well filmed and edited - I’d pay to watch these types of shorts / documentaries rather than something playing in the movie theaters! Gets me even more excited about this summers upcoming adventures into the Sierras!!
Sheety33 Thanks! I’ve got a more eleborate project in the works called “The High Sierra Trail”. It will premiere at this event: switchbackshowcase.ticketleap.com/switchback-showcase-2018-sights-and-sounds-of-the-outdoors/
Wow - thanks for the heads up! Just bought 2 tickets.
Sheety33 Awesome. It’s going to be fun for sure! :)
Great video!!! I loved the animation. I thru hiked the JMT in July 2018 and loved it. Taking my wife back to hike the Rae Lakes Loop this summer.
Bravo! This short is just so well done on many levels: the story, the audio, beautifully filmed and edited, thank you for sharing. Did the JMT in ‘16, and made a trip back to Rae Lakes mid June of ‘17 most beautiful place in the world.
Jason Issertell Thanks so much! I actually did the JMT in 2016 as well. Such a great experience. I started late Aug. Finished Whitney uh...Sept 10th? 11?
Really beautiful film, a pleasure to watch. I know how much effort it takes to film and edit this extensively, so kudos!
Thanks so much! Believe it or not this film was about 20 times easier than our current project. “Highline” is a beast to edit. But will be worth it. :) www.highlinefilm.com
great video!..Awesome location where beauty abounds..Incredible adventure ,especially for a first time there ,not really knowing what to expect,, those snow crossings were pretty intense!!..great job to you both...first video of yours ,, totally looking forward to more,,very well done,,even the animation is acceptable....Stay Safe and God Bless....
Great vid one of the best ive seen. Found you thru Bigfoot . So glad he recommended you!!!
Awesome video, the production quality is really high! Subscribed!
Wow! What can I say? This is honestly one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. I can only dream of being able to put one together like that! Great job, and you certainly have new fans with us! Thank you!
Four Feet Up Thanks so much! It means a lot.
Amazing 🙌🙌
Hey Chris, such an amazing video. The editing is superfine.. feels like a movie. the narration is very useful and well described. Great hike and view. Awesome work there.. Congratulations. I just loved it. It is so refreshing to look at the views.
I just came back from the exact same trip, except mine was 3 days. I am so glad I didn't take my wife and 9-year old boy, though. Not easy for first-time backpackers, even without snows.
Another great video Chris! So nice that you guys could do it together :)
Bravo 👏🏻
Nice video and beautifully done. I have personally done Onion Valley up to Kearsarge Pass with my wife. Good memories.
Chris! You do some amazing work! Love this video. I can't understand why you don't have millions of views and millions of subscribers. Great work and looking forward to your next video.
Thanks dude! I hear that a lot actually. Guess I need to market more or something? My next project is about the High Sierra Trail and will be my best work yet! :) facebook.com/chrisisawesomeproductions
Whoa, this made me really excited for my upcoming trip to Rae Lakes this summer.
I’m a photographer turned videographer and this film really inspired me to think about how I’d capture my adventures going forward.
Great job guys.
Found your vid by fluke while searching for Rae Lake in Alberta Canada.
Glad I found it. This is what great reality TV really is!!👍👍
Thanks dude!
Insanely epic trip and video production Chris. Your film-making skills and editing are off the charts IMO. Just beautiful!
Thanks so much Jon! My newest film “Highline” is on Amazon and other streaming services if ya wanna see the next evolution. :)
And we bought the SD version and watched it tonight. 😎 Equally grand ... what a great eye for telling a story and and at the same time educating us! And all as we enjoy the great passion that is backpacking!
Hi from Holland, your video is awesome but your wife is even more awesome doing such an adventure together!
Thanks! I’ll pass that along to her. :)
Definitely a different touch with the cut-out animations and the underwater shots. Loved the screaming marmot!
Great video, Chris! My gf and I loved the animations and pans. Brought back a bunch of memories for me. Great music too. Your wife did great and I'm hoping she goes on more adventures with you. Now I think I need to take my gf there so she can see it 👍
Don't normally comment. Great video, great shots, good commentary, great editing to make a great story. My Frontier and yours are best I seen on CZcams.
Thanks so much! That means a lot. If you’re interested you can learn about the next project on highsierratrail.com The premiere last Saturday sold out. :)
One of the entertaining and well shot trail videos I've seen! Also here from Bigfoot recommendation and I'm looking forward to your 3 luxury trail items
Thanks! The 3 luxury vid is out: 3 of Chris's favorite luxury items on the trail czcams.com/video/WnLr5cftx9s/video.html
Oh very good film and good experience. Your kids will be with you guys later.. it will be more fun..
Thanks! Yep we can’t wait to take them there. :)
Did the rae lake loop (clockwise from rds end) in '16, but we didnt encounter nearly that much snow over glen pass. I just watched your hst documentary on amazon. [Awesome]. In '17, we trekked a short section of the hst from bear paw over k-gap and down Arroyo while on a loop route in/out of min king. This summer, I've got permit secured to crest kearsarge pass and hit up mt whitney (pending weather, of course) on the way out. Your jmt vid was also fun to watch. Thanks!!!
Kearsarge to Whitney is a great trip! Good luck and have fun. :)
6/17/24
Thank you for the beautiful video! I have a permit for the loop in August. Nervous about altitude 😎
I’m transitioning to UL gear. I have the Zpack single person tent and I love it. I’ve not had it out in a big storm yet, also a bit nervous about that😬
Muzzy was awesome!!
There are many backpacking videos out there these days. This one is unique. It stands out from all the others. I really appreciate the care you took in everything to create this. Thank you!
I am backpacking Rae Lakes this August 2022. Just curious, during what time of year was this filmed? You mentioned a high snow year and all but I’m relatively new to the Sierras.
What a awesome video 😊
Thank you to bigfoot for raging uou and me finding your chanel
What a great film! We did Glen Pass in September and it was much easier...
Kevin Palm Glad ya liked it! Hopefully our footage of the crazy snow year doesn’t discourage anyone from trying it. Usually July is much more melted out.
ChrisIsAwesomeProductions indeed, still lots of water in Sept.
That thing you do in post with the still pan and the background motion... are you a wizard?
Haha, yeah there’s a reason that animation style isn’t used very often. It takes FOREVER, but I think it’s fun and worth the effort. :)
Happy Holidays, Chris. Awesome video. I can't wait for the High Sierra to Mt. Whitney to be uploaded. When did you and your wife do this hike? Was she carrying a MLD pack? I kept trying to see what she had. Anyway, bro, great to see you on here, brings back good memories of the HST. Have a happy New Year, buddy.
Curtis MiLLER Wussup brotha! Hope ya had an awesome Christmas! My wife wore a Zimmerbuilt pack. It’s a custom model called ZB-Smead that’s on the Zimmerbuilt website. Great pack. The HST doc is coming along well. A trailer will be out 1/1 for Patreon supporters (www.patreon.com/ChrisIsAwesomeProductions) , and 1/15 for the general public.
Awesome adventure and awesome video!!! When was this?
We were on the trail July 10-14 :) Wish it was longer!
Bullfrog lake use to be on the ccc recruiting poster
Subscribed! Great job, makes my trip videos look pretty amateurish! Can I ask what the primary software you edit with is?
Thanks Ken! I used FCPX for the general editing, and a combination of Motion 5 and After FX for the animations. They all started off as colored pencil drawings which I took pics of and then animated. Took FOREVER but it was fun. :)
Very high quality video and I enjoyed watching it. The only thing that bugged me was that you kept saying you had crampons but were wearing microspikes, but that is nit-picky. Keep up the good work!
Haha yeah, we weren’t allowed to mention any brand names as per the NPS film permit. So we called them crampons instead. It was easier than saying “traction devices”.
Very cool and entertaining video - Thanks! I remember coaxing my wife out into the wilderness when we were about your age. Some very fond memories... And she doesn't even hit me any more when I bring them up.
Hope you don't mind a question - what time of year did you hike? Some of my friends and I are planning on hiking out there middle of August and this was another high snow year and I'm wondering how the passes will be. From the frozen lakes in some of your shots, I am guessing your hike was quite a bit earlier in the summer perhaps? Just wondering about the need for crampons and ice axes. TIA for any info.
Glad ya liked it! It was early July if I remember correctly. If you’re going early to mid summer this year, an ice axe and light crampons might be a good idea for Glen Pass.
Exceptional video with great production values. Really professional. Good call skipping the hike to Sixty Lakes Basin. That ascent is nearly as high as Glenn Pass and would have been brutal due to the snow.
David Bock Thanks! I’ve been trying to get out to Sixty Lakes for years. Maybe next time. :)
maybe i missed it, but what days in 2017 where you there? going in july and curious if dates align for snowpack.
Heya! I believe it was early July. That was a crazy high snow year. Might be comparable to this year so it may be wise to bring an ice axe and micro spikes. I’d definitely monitor closely.
What time of year was the trip?
Sorry if I missed the dates of the trip. I can see it was 2016, but which month? Can anyone comment on the dates? I want to try it in late May 2022, but could wait a month, if necessary. I do have winter mountaineering experience.
What time of the year was this?
What were the actual dates you folks did this hike?
dematson Hi there! We were on the trail July 10-14, 2017. It was a crazy high snow year so I’m guessing this July will be much more melted out. :)
Chris, Yeah I figured it was still "early" in the epic 2017 season. Kudos for getting over Glen Pass under those snow conditions. It's a tough climb in good conditions. My wife and I camped surrounded by snow at Big McGee Lake in the eastern Sierra in Mid August and the creek crossing was still scary. Your videos are great but I predict it is only a matter of time before you go to full frame cameras like the Sony A7R3 for the still photos. Imagine "Painted Lady" taken with a full frame lens. You are not just creating documentaries, you are creating art.
Thanks! I guess I am awesome
Damn right! :) We actually changed our name to Outmersive once other people started getting involved, so the Chris Is Awesome name is up for grabs!
When were you there?
E S Early July, 2017. It was a record snow year so I’m guessing July 2018 will have much less snow. ;)
I may have missed it but when was this trip? Nov 2017?
Hi there. It was early July 2017 if I remember right.
@@OutmersiveFilms that was quite a bit of leftover snow on Glen Pass, so I was curious when it was
5:20😆
damn. talk about jumping right into the deep end. tough hike for your first hike. waist high water crossing?? that is nuts. I'm not sure I would do that in the Backcountry. maybe a pond or ditch but a raging river. hell no. walk in-walk back out is my motto. I've gotten washing machines a few times. and in half that water. the worst time ever wearing full backcountry pack fly fishing between camps off a log into a nasty freestone creek. 😅😅
Your transitions are so amazing, very impressive. The mix of graphics, art, and film is a motivator for a brand new filmmaker like me. Thank you!
