    • @OutmersiveFilms
      @OutmersiveFilms Před rokem

      I own the 18-105, but find the 18mm focal length and f4 aperture slightly limiting. Especially on an apsc. An f2.8 brings in a lot more light, and 18mm isn’t quite wide enough for my taste. Plus it’s quite a bit longer in terms of size. That said, I did shoot most of the day scenes in Highline with the 16-70mm F4, which is pretty much a smaller version of the 18-105.

    Even though I am two years removed from when this video was actually posted, I’m thinking seriously of upgrading to the a6600 from my a6400, simply because the battery situation in the a6400 drives me out of my mind. I either have to buy the expensive OEM batteries, or deal with any other battery that swells within three or four months, and almost gets stuck in my camera. I have the Tamron 17-70, and some other great APSC lenses, I’m about to shoot a feature length film, by myself, do you still think the a6600 makes sense? I’m thinking the stabilization will be pretty awesome combined with the Tamron 17-70, but I also know that it’s nothing like Panasonic. I have a Weebill S anyway, so it really doesn’t matter. Anyway, sorry for this long comment, but I find it pretty amazing that I ran into this video right now, as I am thinking about selling my a6400 and grabbing the a6600. By the way, I bought my Tamron 17-70 all because of you, it’s all your fault. And thank you for that. I love that lens. Combined with some vintage lenses that I have, I really love the look that I get, even in 8 bit. Thanks again, for a great video as always .

    • @OutmersiveFilms
      @OutmersiveFilms Před rokem

      Thanks! And sorry for the late reply. The ibis in the a6600 is really just a light vibration reduction. The a7s3 however has a much more effective stabilization when in active more. Upgrading from the a6400 to a6600 is a hard call. For me the better battery and ibis make it worth it. But just barely. Glad you enjoy the 17-70! Awesome lens.

It was the Sigma 18-50 or this. I truly think this will be it at stability weatherproof and range is appearing plus the price seems to have just gone down by $100 to $699. Subscribed as well. A cheaper but very good alternative for the Sony 16-55mm is the new Sigma 18-50mm. Little bit less in range but it also has f2.8 and provides really, really good image and video quality. My newer Sony a7S3 on the other hand burns a 256G card per day on the trail. (Slog3, 10bit 4 2 2, Intraframe, set at the maximum bit rate.) I do tend to shoot a lot though.

    We need a Sigma 16-70mm with F1.4 ; ))

    The Sony 18-105mm F4 is an incredible value daytime lens with internal ZOOM

    I’m not a backpacker, but my prefer lenses are the Sony 18-105 F4, the Sony 10-18 F4, mainly because those have OSS, and the Sigma 16 F1.4. The new Sony 16-55 F2.8 is nice, but too rich for my blood. I rather sell everything and go A7SIII than buy that lens, but if I can find a used one cheap enough, I might get one, but I kind of like the 18-105 power zoom better, plus it works great on a gimbal since the lens doesn’t extend when you zoom, and you can zoom it with a remote.

    I just came back from the exact same trip, except mine was 3 days. I am so glad I didn't take my wife and 9-year old boy, though. Not easy for first-time backpackers, even without snows.

    Thanks for this! I'm curious which of your stack of lenses you would suggest for a You Tube studio?

      Hi there! Much of it depends on the size of the room, and the look you’re going for. For talking to the camera at a close distance I’d recommend the Sony 20mm 1.8 on full frame, or the brand new Tamron 11-20mm 2.8 for APSC cameras. If you want something a less wide but still very diverse, the Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 is a great lens as well.
