- "Anyways, I hope you guys like it. If you do, hit that Like button, and let me know if you might want to see something else like this in the future." Clearly, you guys did enjoy the first comparison I did back in November 2018. Thanks to you, it's been one of the most successful pieces of original content I've done in the last few years!
With today's video, I'm revisiting the Kamurocho/Kabukicho comparison. During the trip to Japan I took in 2019, I was able to go back to Kabukicho and wander around more. This time around, I remembered to shoot more video. With that and some in-game footage from Judgment, I have been able to offer up a more direct comparison between the Yakuza world and real life. I hope it gives a decent 'boots on the ground' feeling and lets you can spot for yourself the differences & similarities.
It's not super exhaustive; that'd take days to film, though I'm up for the challenge! There's always a chance for a Part 3 of this, especially if either area ends up having a massive makeover. Leave a comment below on what you thought and your own memories/fun moments from the Yakuza series.
Thanks for watching!

This place is not Champion Street. The area that Champion Street was modeled after is called Golden gai.
Broken eng sry
You are right, actually. I have not been to Golden Gai before. Now that you point it out, though, that makes a lot more sense!
So basically what you're saying is I already know my way around Kabukicho
Pretty much. 😂 If you ever get the chance to go, it will feel instantly familiar.
And if you play Persona 5, you'll be able to navigate through Shibuya easily, I can attest to that!
3:16 bruh the car is there as well
I'm disappointed. Not ONE person ran up to you and challenged you to a fight. Yakuza lied to me😂😂 great vid. Makes me wanna visit Kabukicho even more
He had the Beads of Good Fortune on him.
He wasn't wearing the stajun.
Cool, exactly what I wanted to see: the Champion District! 😄
Videogames are also a great way to promote tourism. Some people call this digital tourism too. When i play Yakuza series and Persona 5, i feel a great urge to visit Tokyo for real and i think there are a lot of people who feel like me in the world. It's not like seeing it on TV. You live in an imitation of that place when you play a videogame. I think It's so cool to visit the place where you see in a videogame also in real life
Yo the champion district part of this kinda really reminds me of the empty lot on some parts
Good call! Yeah, it does evoke that area a lot.
Wow, that's rad!
This is exactly what I wanted to see, awesome video. Thank you for your effort and time, good sir!
I'm delighted to see the real Champion District, but also a little disappointed that it's not as expansive as it is in game (though it's shrunk and lost a street since the jump to the Dragon Engine so I guess it's more in line with the real area now). I'm hoping in the future that RGG Studios expands Kamurocho a little bit further on the outskirts so we can walk around the red light district and make the underground areas that are in Yakuza 4 explorable again. They've got a escalator placeholder just outside the Millennium Tower so I'm hoping a underground section is going to available in a future game. Making Kamurocho more interconnected with more buildings to explore is way more interesting to me that going to a new city.
Yeah, I’d like to see Kamurocho get expanded upon and have some extra density to it. And have those extra areas feel more important. I liked the additions in Yakuza 4, but the parking garage always felt half-baked. There wasn’t much reason for it, beyond the few things you could do there.
Maybe in a Judge Eyes/Judgment sequel? That could be a good way to expand the map and integrate those changes into later Yakuza games.
@@ancientflounder Personally I'm hoping for a Akiyama game as the character has so much potential. I'm actually surprised RGG Studios haven't done one yet but with how Yakuza 6 ended, he can do his own thing now that he's no longer Kiryu's co-protagonist.
I would definitely be down for a game starring Akiyama. 🙂
Thanks alot for making this video man!
Love the production quality in the video, the in-game camera following your real life camera is a nice touch! Great video!
really cool video! Thank you for sharing this with us! I hope I can visit Kabukicho myself one day
Thanks for the comment. :) Yeah, I hope folks will be able to visit again (or for the first time) once all this COVID business calms down.
These videos are very underrated for the quality of the video
im jealous, this mustve been so fun
One of the things about Yakuza that we have to remember (pretending it was a real "alternate universe") is that the events of the game mean changes would happen that didn't happen in "our world". After all, we don't have Majima Construction.
THIS IS AMAZING
Loved this! You're so meticulous!
(Tried to do videos like this on my chan but it's no small task!!!) 👏👏👏
The biggest difference I've noticed is that interestingly, real life Kabukicho seems to be emptier. I know it's probably more populated at night, but still in the Yakuza games, the streets were always filled with pedestrians, often so much so, that you couldn't move without bumping into someone.
15:50 I see what you did there! Great video, I really enjoyed watching this :)
I grew up on gintama, which is also set in kabuki-cho, so it was fun seeing a ton of landmarks that I wouldn't have thought existed.
great job man, really, i watched it with a pleasure comparing your stuff with Yakuza Kiwami 2, the details is amazing, i recognized these streets in Ryan Celsius before this, japanese streets is so beautiful and these bars for a couple of people haha it's very funny, thanks for this video, you made the best comparison))
11:43 YK2 at the night on same spot looks very similar - imgur. com/a/4FqlKu5
Thank you for the kind words. :) That does look extremely similar. That's one of the reasons I enjoy the Dragon Engine games so much, despite the changes it brought. RGG Studio have really made sure that the in-game maps feel a lot more like real life.
little bit sad about no Sky finans Building(Akiyama story)
Could you find the Children park where there's an entrance to the sewers? My favorite place in Judgement was the store where there was a fishing tank and underneath was a secret casino. It'd so cool if that place really exists!
Praying that the Tokyu Kabukicho Tower (Which replaced the Tokyu Milano and the Bannam VR building) will have some prominence in Yakuza 8. Sounds like a good place for a boss rush or final boss dungeon.
I just want to play the substory music on my phone and approach a random person in Kabukicho and see what happens
Man i wanna visit japan someday, for the culture shock and this. 😅
Love the video!
Thank you. 😁
you are doing God's work
love this video but your dual footage feels super off somehow - still really good
Sorry about that - it was a bit of a challenge to get decent footage in-game to accompany the real life footage. Layout and scale differences between the two made hard (at least for me) to get them to time up properly.
That whole place is like an architectural wonderland.
It’s a such a busy place, visually.
im glad i stumbled upon this video after i finished the Kiryu saga lmao you kinda spoiled a major part in Yakuza 6 when you were in Senryo ave. but all in all this is a cool vid. would love to visit Japan soon after all this corona die down
The bit about Haruka getting hit by a car? I remember that being in the trailers for the game.
@@ancientflounder ah my bad i hear ya.
4:01 There's the Maharaja.
i didnt even know that this place was even real
Hi! Is it a comparison with Yakuza Zero?
This is a comparison with the Kamurocho layout in Judge Eyes/Judgment.
Odd observation, RL has a lot more plants and trees than in-game.
Did you happen to meet Kiryu?
Nah, he’d already gone underground by that time. 😂
Did you happen to meet a dude with a snake skin suit and an eye patch? 🤔
wheres pink st! go to pink st at night!
Which yakuza game oraa
All the footage in this was taken from Judgment/Judge Eyes.
You didnt do any substories or searched for the coin locker keys.
I did do some activities there, like UFO Catcher, and eating at a restaurant. 😅
@@ancientflounder did you run into majima?
Nah, he must have had an off day when I was there. Good news for me. 😂
Yeah but where da random ass thugs and hooligans doh?
