  • Hello Everyone!!
Sorry it's been awhile since our last video. A lot has happened in the last 3 months. We didn't end up going on our trip to the coast. We had a lot of issues come up with the bus and it was just not possible to go through with the trip. It was definitely a let down for us as I'm sure it is for those looking forward to us documenting it.
We do have the bus up and running finally and hopefully stays running. We will continue to make videos and we aren't planning on going away anytime soon. We are constantly coming up with ideas for future videos so stay tuned!!
    Thanks for watching and subscribing!!

Okay, lets see a video on the roof rack fabrication. It's really cool.😁😁

    G'day,
Your splity has turned out so cool. You don't have to be going 153 mph to be cool 53 mph is fine.
    ✌️ Peace

The split window is really super cool. I don't mind 55 mph. If the local vw community were a little larger, they would support your efforts. My bay window isn't near as slick as your ride and I park the bus next to "big blocks " at cars and coffee when I can. I agree that replacement parts are cheap junk sometime but we work through them. 👍 enjoyed the videos. Not many rides running on water pump engines.😁

Run the good stuff and make sure you have a good condenser. Change the main jet to 125. Verify you don’t have any vacuum leaks.

Cool to see an update! It happens - I wanted to have mine on the road within 1 year of buying it. It took 3 years & triple my budget. lol You should be proud to accomplish so much work in such a little amount of time.

Nice videos!!! Split buses have reduction gears in the rear. You’re limited to those. Yes china after market parts are hit or miss. Even the bosch ponts and condensers fail. Also make sure gap is correct on the points. I switch all my internal parts on the distributor to electronic. Love the bus!!!! 65 13 window deluxe here👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Hi guys ,sorry to hear you’ve been having issues. If you decide to build / buy a built motor with a little more pep then I highly recommend getting a 123 Dizzy . I run the non blue tooth one on my 1956 stroker in my bus and it’s never let me down . There great quality & not your cheapo Chinese knockoffs . Another worthwhile improvement would be to get rid of your gear reduction boxes as they will limit your speed and will help with keeping up with other vehicles on the road . Just convert to a straight axle using bug parts & a bug box or if you fancy a lively engine 1776 with twin ICT’s is a great all round workhorse and works well in a bus .Anything larger you need to start looking at upgrading the rest of the running gear ,brakes possibly go IRS rear for improved handling. But all that cost ,that’s why I’d shoot for a 1776 .
Good luck all the best Ja (with the grey 69 panel ) chatted to Christine on FB a while back 🤙🤙

    Very timely video.
Im new-ish to VW's. (Had a brief fling with a Ghia in college.) Ive just drug home a splitty bus in need of the full treatment and im as bewildered as i am excited.

Bosch Bosch Bosch unfortunately the China part will not last that long some will be defective it's a learning process for you China carburetor and distributor cheap but not perfect rebuild your old parts glad to see you back don't give up

Re the coil mounting on the sidewall and a longer king lead , points and fit an extra earth ground from engine to above the gearbox are good upgrades gear ratios tyre size helps join your local vw club its a great source of freinds, parts and help. The genuine vw coils are OK to be upside down( lucas or bosch ) best original motors are the 1500cc a great upgrade to your 1600cc are bigger barrels 1641 to 1679cc or 1776 with a bit of work

The electrical parts available today are not very good...
Only run Bosch points, condenser, and coil. Even Bosch parts aren't that great today. Try and find a German carburetor (30 pict 1 is my favorite). As to your fuel tank - in a pinch jam an ice pick through the fuel sock and then put a filter or two in series just after the reserve valve. The poor quality tank sealer used in the new tanks dissolves from ethanol fuel. The early transaxles limit your top speed.
Welcome to "life in the slow lane."😊
    Cool early panel!

It’s good to see you two back. While I’ve owned a couple 66 GM cars, I’ve owned at least 30 VW’s in my life. Now it looks like you eliminated the reduction boxes, which is the best way to go if you have. If not, I highly recommend that, at a 4.12, or 3.88 ring and pinion. For the engine. A nicely built, mild stroker engine is the only way to go. And bigger is better. But not the cheapest. Mild cam, lightly ported heads with bigger valves, dual 2 barrel carbs, 1.5” quality exhaust, full flow oiling with an external cooler and fan will put you at 80mph all day. And 3400 rpm is ideal on the highway.

Great to see you guys back, yeh the aftermarket parts are a big problem with our dubs, try and stay og if you can. There's vendors in Europe that still have og parts too ;) If you can find an original distributor that will fix many motor tuning problems.

I believe , although through no fault of your own your missing the point of the vintage Volkswagen experience. It will never drive anything like a new vehicle. Hang in there get some Volkswagen mechanical experience and all these problems will all be something you can laugh about later. Also your driving a bus you can haul alot of tune up parts for the guaranteed future break downs.

Forgot something. Where did you get the roof rack?.
