THREE OF A PERFECT PAIR
She is susceptible
He is impossible
They have their cross to share
Three of a perfect pair...
He has his contradicting views
She has her cyclothymic moods
They make a study in despair
Three of a perfect pair...
One, one too many
Schizophrenic tendencies
Keeps it complicated
Keeps it aggravated
And full of this hopelessness
What a perfect mess...

Words can't describe how much I love Crimson . I guess I now know why Jimi Hendrix was jumping up and down at one of their early shows, yelling "This is the greatest band in the world".. look it up if you doubt it.
Gentle Giant. Jethro Tull

2:24 - 2:57 Gets me every time. How can this still surprise me after all these years?
Because it is so brilliant!
Genius
Like Eno jumped in !
Greatest guitar solo ever!
The title alone is pure genius!
It seems to be a koan ;)

The guitar solo from this recording was my ringtone for many years... One of the best solos of all time, as far as I am concerned.
That solo is like nothing else.

Listening to this again today, nearly 35 years after I first heard it, I realize I didn’t give enough credit for creating this song’s atmosphere to those very full, yet chime-like, watery, bubbling gamelan tones they somehow evoked from their guitars in that opening riff. I don’t know what combination of tremolo plus chorus pedal and neck humbucker tone settings I’d have to apply to come close to that tone! Geniuses, really.
great musical commentary buddy
I remember hearing this as a senior in high school and thinking "THIS...is what i've been looking for".
Love the guitar tone too. Sounds like a super clean Smallclone pedal.
Have no idea about pedals per se, but a Fender Mustang through Roland JC120 is essential.
Most genius drum beats from Bruford!!
A simply beautiful song with some brilliant time signatures. I just had to do a short drum-cover with some different drums. Enjoy! 🤩

Love the odd time signatures. Bill Bruford is highly underrated.
The whole outfit is under rated..all musical genius's each one a bona fide master of their craft.
18 years old in a college dorm room and this on vinyl blew my mind completely, nothing has been the same since
I, too, was introduced to this album and to this band in a college dorm room, in early 1984. (I was 20.) And yes, it blew MY mind, too!
It gets into your DNA. On my death certificate it will say he died a Crimsoid,
I love this album. This song blew my mind when I first heard it and still does.
WHAT A PERFECT MESS!
King Crimson in four words
Bruford was often overlooked by Bonham,Moon and Baker. All greats but in my opinion Bruford was on another level.
My favourite King Crimson song of all time. The music goes alongside lyrics so well... The music, the lyrics, the band... Truly a three of a perfect pair.
King Crimson con Adrian Belew....¡ERA OTRA COSA!!
I’d heard some early Crimson on the radio before I bought this album in the mid-1980s. When I first listened to it, it blew my mind! 🤯 And this track particularly stood out (and still stands out) as the créme de la créme.
Fripp. Bruford. Levin. Belew.
A stellar lineup. 👏🏻
Saw them in 1982 in Portugal. When they started their set their want a great deal of interest from the locals... The adverts for the gig even misspelt their name. As the show progressed jaws started to drop and they were clocking a small group of Brits ( us) singing all the words and going mental to the fantastic stuff going on before us. Come the end they were coming up to us and asking for the names of the songs....oh and applauding long and loudly to the mighty Crimson!!
Nobody talks about Bruford enough. He is literally the best drummer of all time in my opinion. Yes, ALL time.
I agree
Yes, thank you. Got overshadowed by Bonham, who of course is great but Bruford was doing way more interesting stuff and was much tighter and it was the same era
Trouble is, Bill makes playing this song sound easy when even counting is it is hard AF.
Bill is absolute quality .
Vinnie Caliuta is objectively superior
It was the first work by King Crimson that I heard, I was not even twenty, now at 53 years old, I am writing these words, it is a recording that left me thinking.
hope you have listen to the two previous albums ;-)
@@sound-ur1bq If you listen to them, a big hug, Jesus is with you.
54.......i took my first trip to this album .......great tune ...even today it resonates
I love how in some parts of the song it has the weird reverse guitar. This was clearly inspired by the Beatles’ masterpiece Tomorrow Never Knows. They revolutionized so many aspects of music itself and you can see this everywhere.
I'm pretty sure reversed tapes were invented by musique concrete artists when tapes were first invented. Tbh the Beatles didn't really do anything that hadn't been done before, they just put it all in a package that could be sold easily
@@BellXllebMusic Not going to lie, this is one of the worst musical takes I have ever seen.

Awesome album. Incredible musicians. Thank you.
One of my favorite K.C Jams. always come back to it at some point in time.
Late-period King Crimson and Pink Floyd's Division Bell inducted me into the world of "Adult Rock".
Don't forget the 80's Yes, Genesis, and Asia. Not all bad, but there's something to be said of the rawness of the early days of progressive rock. Then again, it's also nice to put on the 3-4 minute, polished adult tracks during family dinners and bbqs.
The Black community call it “Grown Folks Music.”
As opposed to...?
Interesting. I never thought of that label before.

Threeeeeeeeeee of a perfect pair♪
I don't know why this song gives me so much energy&happiness and relaxed feeling at same time.. Last week a radio had prog rock bands in 80's, in rock-metal hours; and this was playing
im happy that three of perfect pair is put but the only problem they only have 3 studio albums left to release
Love Bill Bruford
Bought first Crimson album in 1969 and have been buying them ever since.
Fripp's guitar often reminds me of lighting in a bottle.
Belew's guitar often reminds me of water.
Such a great mix.
in all honesty i have never drunk a combination of lightning and water, will have to get back to you on that

@@hopefullyexisting1531 The taste of King Crimson
how to tell when it is Fripp or Belew playing?
That’s beginning always gets me man! It’s so good!
Me too, man! Many crimson song intros grab me and won't let go but I particularly love the way Adrian's two part vocal harmony fades in at the beginning of this track... And that solo that sounds like they are turning a preset knob while playing! Eargasm!!
Show me any other band that has been consistently great, ultra talented, and always unique, since 1969! They are innovators, not imitators. ✌️
Even when King Crimson goes Pop it's great.
I do remember the radio station played this song when I was young and it was the best song I've ever heard in my youthful years and now I'm 44 years old and I still love it lol and it has been years since I have heard it and it's just a joy to my liking lol
La primera vez que la escuché me voló la cabeza, sobre todo ese solo alucinante...
Haven’t noticed if it’s been commented, and sorry for the spoiler: The verse has guitar accenting 2 beats per bar, in parallel to the vocals and bass which suggest 3 beats per bar, reflecting the title of the song! (You can understand/feel it as either a triplet of quarter notes over 2/4, or 2 dotted quarter notes over 3/4.) The chorus is in 7/8.
Cool that you noticed all that. Are you a drummer? I'm a guitarist, but I was introduced to Crimson by a drummer who said "They play with time signatures the way a gifted child plays with toys."
And I instantly noticed the creative and complex guitar work on just about everything they've done.. especially since "RED".
But I'd have to say that my favorite live lineup is when they did the "double trio". Two drummers, two bassists, and two guitarists (one of whom sings lead vocal). 😁 Just the idea of two three piece bands playing as one is so Frippian....
I was at the Pier Show in NYC '82. Blown away! This period of Crimson was so different from the earlier ones. What can you say about Fripp and the journey of this band? Always ahead of the curve, always a class act.
One of the most beautiful melodies ever created 🎶
