    the 200cc twin havoc made 71.31 hp on the 4th run on the dyno , still allot to test and some horses to be found ... it was still using the old clutch and pulleys and was a little lean , next time 2fast pulley and new 3g clutch and some other tweaks to push it even further ...

      Nice bikes bro, but the rd500/rz500 was severely under powered, I loved the early V4 design but the rg500 could make 145hp being a square 4 disk valve, but hats off to Yamaha I had the tz 250 kosinski replica, that handled so well compared to my nsr250 mc21 but power was still low, maybe Yamaha had a restriction thing going on back then?

I had a real challenge keeping up to the Gamas on the track, that's for sure. It's worthy to note that Yamaha made a Japanese exclusive RZ 500R with hand made aluminum frame and race spec E.C.M. with full advance curve past 10,000 R.P.M. My understanding is that less than two thousand of the Japanese R models were ever produced and are far superior to the Canadian or U.K. models.

    We are only in the beginning of tuning this.
    A little little bit lean, but no worries, better to be safe, methanol don´t care so much if rich.
    Ignition is only 12 degrees at top, should be around 15-16 atleast.
    Then there are some cvt tuning left, but i actually think were are pretty damn close already, only adjust clutch to lock up a little bit higher up in rpm and it should be fine.

  • @Ritalie
    @Ritalie Před 5 lety +6

    So for those watching, the expansion chamber exhausts (sounds like bumblebees) actually take the sound waves, and deflect them backwards into the cylinder while the piston port is open on the cylinder, compressing the mixture backwards into the cylinder, acting like a turbocharger. The expansion chambers are the reason why a 2 stroke engine has way more power than it should be able to have, because it's basically turbocharged.
    The fuel mixture is sucked into the cylinder, into the expansion chamber, then pushed backwards by the sound waves, pressing the mixture backwards into the combustion chamber. The reed valves on the carburetor and the piston port on the cylinder try to stop the reversion of the gasoline and air mixture from blowing backwards, but you can see some of the fuel spray leaving the carburetors, as some of the sound waves are blowing the fuel mixture backwards out of the carburetors.
    Note: There is a siphoning effect where the fuel and air mixture is drawn into the cylinder, past the cylinder and into the exhaust, but then some of it is pushed backwards back into the cylinder by the sound waves in the tuned pipes. The sound waves only produce this effect at certain RPM's, and that's why 2 strokes have a "power band" which depends on the engine design, and the size and length of the expansion chamber/s. If you destroy the expansion chamber exhaust you lose 30% or more of your power. Some small engines have 100% more power from a tuned pipe, that's how important it is. Adding a tuned pipe is like doubling your displacement.
    I may have explained this wrong, but that's how I learned it ;) Such a cool engine in this video.

Injecting nitro directly into the crankcase, and using two-piece pistons to allow for wrap-around porting to save the rings, the pulses of the expansion chamber and the port over-lap, make the thing shriek at 20,000 RPMs. My record-breaking 250 Suzuki at Bonneville in 1969 was actually "free porting". I had torched so many top ends that we were running Weisco pistons in cylinders with 50mm wider intake ports. Getting 70 BHP from 200 cc seems pretty good for your first trials. I did a lot of dyno work on Yamaha TZ250 motors in the 1976-1979 years and was getting about 65 BHP. I like your pipes, as they seem to have a large diameter which is good for torque, but not so good for cornering clearance on a motorcycle. Pay attention to your coolant temperature. Yamaha published data on power and coolant temperature , finding that 80 degrees C was best for them. You must keep the temperature the same for all dyno runs or you will not be able to accurately compare power results. Good luck to you in your work.

      Doesnt look like that slick is guna be cornering any time soon and 70hp is pretty ok for a twin 200 concidering that a kx 125 makes 35 hp and the kx 100s arnt to far off from that so a twin 200 with 70hp isnt crazy, if it was a single cylinder it would be crazy but its a twin, each cylinder helps the other one out its always guna make more power than a single
