- I couldn't help but notice the Footman that has been helping Eloise Bridgerton in finding Lady Whistledown, so I decided to make a video about it. Hopefully, I'm not alone in my curiosity. He is only in 4 episodes but that was enough to lead to the #hotfootman trend. I'm all for it. I cut out a lot of my discussion about fan theories so I will mention some of them here. One redditor suggested that creating a romantic relationship between Eloise and Footman John would be an interesting inversion of the Cinderella trope (Benedict has the Cinderella troupe in the books). Other redditors have speculated (or hoped maybe) that Footman John is the love interest for Benedict. Either way, it is awesome to see that a background character can garner a lot of attention. The actor, Oli Higginson, is very talented so he has the skill to play a bigger part if the showrunners decided to expand his character.
I also cut out a lot of historical information about footmen in general and about pin money. Please let me know if I should exclude historical information. Finally, I apologize for my audio, I will invest in a microphone soon. I wanted to see first if I enjoy making videos. Turns out, I do, now I just have to fix the sound.

I HOPE they put them together. Their chemistry, albeit brief, is great and I truly feel Eloise getting the class storyline makes more sense for her character than Benedict.
I was thinking the same thing; putting Eloise together with someone of a different class would be a very natural progression of her character arc. I agree with you on the chemistry. I think Oli Higginson has a lot of charisma on screen, those two can carry a lot of scenes.
It would be very interesting to explore Footman John and Eloise's relationship, and them share their views in society.
I don't ship them but I really like him as a friend for her. He almost feels like an older brother, but the kind that caves to all of his little sister's demands because he's just so fond of her. Of course, as a footman, he's supposed to obey her, but he's not supposed to obey orders from her that would be contrary to the will of the head of the family, and he shows that he knows that, yet he does what she asks. He could have lost his job for accompanying her to unproper places, so I don't think the pin money was the main reason he did it. I think he knew she would find a way to go even if he refused to take her, so he decided he'd rather be there to protect her if needed.
Also, he seems older than Eloise and to have quite important duties (announcing the guests, guarding Eloise, etc) so I think he must have been there for quite a while, at least a few years, so he would've met Eloise when she was a teenager or maybe even younger, which I think would explain why he would want to protect her, be it physically or spiritually.
That's a good point. I think I sometimes forget that Eloise is 18 because the actress who plays her is much older. She is very young and he is supposed to be older than her.
As much as I ship her with Theo, I wouldn't complain if they put her with John instead 😅

The only possibility for us to see what’s going on in the Server’s quarters, I think will happen In Benedict’s season. Because Sophie starts working in the Bridgerton household. So it would make sense to see her interact with the other servers in the Server quarters. And therefore we might even see footman John on his time off work. 😊
Yeah, I agree, ☝️ that’s the likely scenario. I hope they bring Footman John back for Sophie’s season.
Maybe Footman John will be an important character when eloise and sir phillip's story get involved in the future two seasons. I'm just excited with that storyline since s1.
I hope so! I love seeing recurring small characters grow over time on shows.
#Footman John! His devotion puts me in the mind of Lady Danbury's handmaid Coral, although she was so much more. I do believe he has the potential.

Hi, yes sooo… I get there is already book storyline canon and all that but I’d just like to throw out into the universe that I would love if Marina lives and Phillip remains married and therefore unavailable aaaaand…. I’d love for the relationship between Eloise and Footman John to blossom and become a beautiful romance and there’s so much that could make a dramatic compelling story there for them to have a happy ever after and.. all’s I’m saying is that I ship them SO HARD!

Thank you for your comment! I ship them too but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I was honestly surprised that no one made a video on him. I figured that if maybe there are enough fan videos on him, the writers will take notice. Who knows, maybe someone who has influence will see this and he will get a bigger part... crazier things have happened. Just a pipe dream. In either case, it's nice to know others who are on board with the idea!

Maybe someday there will be great fanfic or something, lol. Whatever happens, Eloise is my absolute favorite character and I just hope they do right by her.
i really hope the writers don't shy away from altering the canon drastically!! i think it would be so much more interesting (and also in character) for them to run away with the characters as we know them from the show rather than to stick too strongly to the source material. obviously the books have a lot of die hard fans so it would be very contraversial if they changed it up massively but i'm still hoping they do !!
He may have a significant role when Eloise runs off to meet Phillip and while we may not get a servant-pov insight in her season, since her true love match is a titled gentleman, Benedict’s season could give us that. His love match, while noble-born, is an earl’s illegitimate daughter relegated to the serving class (cue Cinderella story). Benedict’s book is probably my least favourite purely due to Benedict being an ass but the improvements to his character in the show could turn it around. And the class narratives between Benedict and Sophie could showcase the working class more
You're so right. It's very likely that we are going to get the working class perspective in Benedict's book. I don't know why but I would really love to get that point of view showcased on the show.

The thing is, for Eloise to exist in this story and era she cant be gay cuz she wint find happiness or at least be satisfied.
In their society women cant even work sobif E was gay and her abd her lover decided to run they wouod have no means. And even though El would want to rhinknof herself as capable she6very much a white woman feminist. Shes never had to worry or be concerned cuz she has brothers who would take care if her if she never married.
Its one thing to pretend that black ppl and other races were recognised then. Its another to make sure the stoey is believable. So shell have to end up with a man
I wouldn’t mind a friendlier/equal-ish version of the Brimsley-Queen sort of dynamic between John and Eloise. A romantic one might feel strange to me because idk anything about the books tho. John feels weird being a romantic interest but is very believable as an older brother/younger uncle figure depending on their age gap & John’s work history with the Bridgertons
I think footman John and eloise being friends would be great for her character development. He clearly knows her better and would be great wingman for EloiseXTheo ship. Plus I don't think Eloise will end up with Sir Philip because the ship sucks and it's kind of out of character for Eloise. I just really want Theo and Eloise to be the endgame.

i really hope the show writers don't shy away from altering the source material in the future!! as someone who hasn't read the books i just want the best for the characters and so i wan't eloise and theo to be endgame!! I hope the writers aren't too scared to change something so big about the plot because it makes more sense for the character. I am also ALWAYS a huge fan of a working class perspective in period dramas so the more working class characters the better!! i think benedict and eloise are very similar in being a lot more politically conscious and down to earth than many of the characters in their social circle so it would make sense for them both to end up with working class love interests. Although maybe now that eloise's season will be following benedicts their storyline's would be too similar and it would take a lot of the weight off of Eloise's defiance if benedict has done the same thing in the previous season. as i say i've not read the books so i actually have no idea what happens to either of them aside from who they end up with lol
@@theodoesthings oh Benedict ends up with Sofie who is from working class. Also Phillip is just a really shitty guy in the books ngl. He is a neglecting parent also he kind of rapes Maria and he wants Eloise to be quite and just do ykw with him. He also tricked Eloise to be a stepmom to kids who are absolute menace (which is not their fault the do it because want their father's attention)

im imagining a scene of like a normal bridgerton dinner, maybe with guests, and Eloise just so happens to make eye contact with John. They smile and she looks away but then gradually she becomes more self conscious/aware that she and her family are casually having dinner while surrounded by servants just standing there like 🧍🧍🧍🧍 😂 just, more of class concious Eloise please shes so great
id also love to hear how john sees the bridgertons, i imagine he's quite amused fond and proud to be their footman despite everything. I wonder if hes friends with the featheringtons footman? Or has history with the Cowpers maid? So much potential lol

If he's kinda like a bodyguard so you could probably write in a really really good night out/mugging/rescue situation, John fully kicks a thief's butt or something and Eloise sees him bruised and bloody but still looking out for her and maybe that poofy lil wig fell off and she's left all 😳🥵
And then Anthony finds out Eloise caught feelings and immediately fires John 💀 Kate makes him take it back but it's Really Awkward in the Bridgerton household for a bit 😂
