    Hi, great video - comprehensive and informative! I am a senior lecturer on a teaching and education track (in management) and am happy to answer questions if I can.

      I am a PhD holder from Egypt
      Do you think I might have the chance to get UK univ. Position ?
      Or only the word " Egyptian degree " will be a turn off ??

    Many thanks for making a video like this! I have some questions:
    I have completed my PhD 2 years ago, I am currently on my way to finishing PGCE (teaching degree for secondary schools) but I have found that working in schools is not quite suitable for me and I want to get into university lecturing through the teaching fellow route. Do you think I am qualified enough already to apply for teaching fellow jobs? Or do I need to get the additional qualifications (PgCert/PgDip you mentioned in the video) first?

      Thanks for watching and the great question. My recommendation would be to look at Teaching Fellow jobs in your subject and check out their entry requirements (if you are in the UK, jobs.ac.uk can be a good starting place). For me I was able to study for the FHEA whilst on the job as a lecturer czcams.com/video/bxcQMjQXWFM/video.html

    Hi there, this might be a hard one to answer, but I was wondering how much a Teaching Fellow differed from a Teaching and Scholarship (i.e., teaching focused) Lectureship? I'm particularly interested in the differences between the workload allocations for each role. From your video, it looks like the job role for the teaching fellow is very similar to a T&S lectureship (the only real difference being the focus of one's research). I ask because I'm currently in a bit of a bind as to whether to apply for a teaching fellowship position at another institution - I'm currently employed on a short-term T&S lectureship contract which expires in January. There are inklings that this might be extended, but the teaching fellowship position I've seen is for 3 years which would provide with a bit of security. However, I want to keep working on my post-PhD publication plan during this time, with a view to getting onto a more evenly split academic role in the future - what I know as a Teaching and Research position (this can be termed slightly differently from institution to institution). I don't really want to transition onto a purely teaching focused pathway, and if there is little-to-no time afforded for research as part of the workload allocation for teaching fellowship I will have to consider this before applying.
    Many thanks for your help!

      It sounds like the Teaching and Scholarship position has elements of pedagogical research. A Teaching Fellow may also have this, or could be more focused on delivery of teaching. Guess you would need to really study the breakdown of the job description. In order to move into a Teaching and Research position, it would be good/needed to keep publishing in your subject. You have lots of factors at play! Good luck with your decision, hope it all works out.

    Thank you so much for such a informative video. May I know that if there is possibility that I can start from a teaching fellow role and maybe move to a lecture role in the future? Thank you

    • @DrCST
      @DrCST  Před 2 lety

      Within my university department the three pathways (teaching fellow, research fellow, lecturer to professor) are kept pretty distinct - so it is unusual to move between them. (There are various reasons for this I can chat about!) But other universities may have different rules. I'll make a future video on this, it's a really good topic idea! Thank you 😀

      @@DrCST Thank you Dr. CST for replying me, I really really appreciate it. Also, for pay scale, I saw UK system rank staff in differrent grade, is teaching fellow in grade6? or how can we understand this grade thing? I guess it's another topic that confused some silly folks like me, haha

    Thanks for this video!
    Could I have some advice, please?
    I recently passed my PhD, and I am now looking at working in industry.
    I would like to get the right quals so that I can return to academia as a teaching fellow in the future.
    You mentioned the PgCert and the PgDip, can these be gained through online distance learning?
    If so, do you recommend any specific providers?
    Thank you!

    • @DrCST
      @DrCST  Před 3 lety +1

      Congratulations on your PhD + your next step into industry 😊 I believe you can get the PgCert/Dip through distance learning, but as I did mine through my uni I can't recommend anyone specific. Sorry!

    Hello, I'm planning to do my masters in the UK, is there a way to get a job in the teaching staff after I finish?

    • @DrCST
      @DrCST  Před 2 lety +1

      Typically you need to show some teaching experience. I'd recommend looking at teaching fellow job adverts (jobs.ac.uk is useful) to get a feel of job requirements for your subject. Good luck for the masters!
