You really explained it so well. Thanks so much, you are adorable 💙
Thank you ma'am. I am highly indebted to you for sharing such significant details.
Glad it was helpful!
THANKS For valueable information❤
Thank you for this. This is very useful information about our academia 😊👍🏼
Thank you!
Hi Dr CST. Thank you for the valuable information
Glad it was useful :)
Thank you so much for your clear and educative video, I thank God I found your Channel.
Thanks for watching the video 😃
@@DrCST Hello Dr CST,
I was wondering why people would go to work at a top university if the pay is about the same.
Is there any reason? I believe if a lecturer works at a higher ranked university like UCL, IC, Manchester, Surrey etc, she/ he will be under more pressure compare to those who are working elsewhere?
Very informative video! 👍
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Great video with lots of valuable information. I've just decided I want to become a lecture but only have a BA in business so I'll need to go back to university. Can you do more videos on this topic please? It was super!!
Thanks for the lovely comment and for watching. Congratulations on your BA in Business and good wishes for your next career step 😊 More lecturer pathway videos will definitely be coming up!

Hello Prof. Could you detail the leaves for SL/PL etc in the UK? How many months/weeks they can work from home & enjoy proper leaves?
Mam how much cambridge and oxford university full professors typically earn a year? Nice video.
thank you very much for your video. I'm also very interested in how you applied for a faculty position in a university
I'm glad it was helpful. I can make a future video about applying for faculty positions 😊 Thanks for watching.
do we have a pre empowerment medical check-up before being a professor in UK ?
Just curious, I wonder if you become a professor, will you have the freedom and flexibility to focus more on researching or on one of the three main functions? Like when getting professorship on lecturer route, can you opt for researching more? And what if you're a professor in research, can you opt to teach more or do admin duties? Thanks for this wonderful video. 😊
she ditched your question didn't she. she's a bastard.
A few people on the teaching pathway still conduct research in their specialist subjects, (eg physics, sociology etc). The vast majority on the teaching pathway tend to conduct research in the more educational/pedagogical aspects of their subjects. I do not believe it is possible to attain the rank of Professorial Teaching Fellow/Professor of Teaching in [named subject] with a zero record in publications.
It´s more to do with the criteria for promotion. If you´re on the Lecturer pathway, the promotions committee will judge you primarily on a respectable balance in teaching and research productivity.
For the teaching (or research) pathway, you will be judged primarily on absolute excellence in teaching (or research). In other words, you will not be promoted to a more advanced rank on the teaching pathway if your admin and research output are far superior to your teaching - basically you´re on the wrong track.
@@TrevLucas-nz6zj hey, thanks so much for answering this question. Been awhile that I asked this. Hope you have a nice day!
Thanks for this! I’m a Medical Doctor and currently work as Assistant Professor in the US. I don’t have a PhD. What would I need to get a job in a UK university? Would I start as a Lecturer? Thank you!!
Thanks for watching! The medical physics researchers I know who work as university lecturers in the UK do have PhD's - but I suspect there are roles where people don't. I'd look at jobs.ac.uk to get a feel of the requirements for the lectureship posts that would align to your area 😃
@@DrCST Thank you
Hi Dc, can you tell us where can we find job offers for lecturer at uk universities ?
merci.
Thanks for the comment and great question. I'll post a video with some tips for finding academic jobs in the next couple of weeks!
How long does it take to be a Professor from Lecturer position?
Does the university in UK can skip steps of promotion and promoted a young person straight to be a professor because of their exceptionally intellect and research?
Typically to get promoted to a UK professor you need to demonstrate excellence and leadership in your subject (great publications, recognised subject expert, significant department admin roles, research funding income, teaching experience etc). Usually this all takes time... but there is not a fixed timescale to go from lecturer to professor.
Hi, I was just wondering whether you could do your PHD alongside being a lecturer. Also one of my lectures skipped her masters and went straight into doing her PHD
Thanks for watching 😊 Whether you can lecturer without a PhD/whilst studying for one will depend on your subject and location. I'd suggest having a look at job adverts for lecturers in your field to see if the PhD is a requirement (jobs.ac.uk lets you search for lectureship roles in specific disciplines). For UK physics lecturers we do tend to need the PhD first. Hope this helps!
Just to add that Those who have a 1st at Undergrad level often have the opportunity too skip Masters straight to PhD.
Hi, what is the best way to address (in an email) a Uni senior lecturer with a PhD in the UK? Is it okay to say : ' Dear Sara' (without the Dr. title) or would that be considered 'rude'? Thank you✨🌼
I tend to go with Dear Dr/Professor [Surname] in an opening email to someone. Then I go by the tone of the reply, but often will move to using the persons first name in future emails 😊
@@DrCST thank you! Love you and your content 🌼💞
Could you explain the salary scale for senior lecturer and annual increments and central points in pay scale.
Thanks for the question - I'll include it in the Lecturer Q&A video out this Thursday (26/11/20).
Hope this helps... czcams.com/video/OHQhpSATAYg/video.html
every university publishes a payscale pdf documents. don't ask her she's here to be popular not to make you knowledgeable 😂
Thank you so much for your guidance. I have finished Master of Commerce and going to get PhD in commerce. Am I eligible to get a job in Commerce or Accountancy?
Welcome to the channel. Congratulations on your Master's and all the best for your PhD. I'd suggest looking at lecturer job adverts in your subject field - that will help give you a feel of the requirements. (For physics my requirements included needing a PhD, evidence of teaching and leading research programmes.)
@@DrCST Thank you so much for your guidance. I will look towards my goal. If you need a research assistant will you consider me? I am interested in physics but I didnt study that. But I will be good in learning very fast.
My university has “Principal Academic” after “Senior lecturer” before Associate Professor then Full Professor 👩🏫
It's really interesting how we all use similar terms but in slightly different ways! Thank you for sharing 😀
If i may just ask, how much do professors/lecturers make in the United Kingdom?
In the UK we use a spine point system for pay - I chat about it in this video czcams.com/video/OHQhpSATAYg/video.html 😊 The salary range goes from £35k to £100k+ depending on your academic level. This website gives lots more details... www.discoverphds.com/advice/after/lecturer-and-professor-salaries.
Really helpful.
I am trying to understand the salaries of teacher in medical colleges of UK.
Associated professor
Assistant r professor
Professor
Can please help or guide any source.
A good place to looks is jobs.ac.uk or the adverts universities put up. That way you can see the jobs requirements and offered salary.
speaking of track, why people choose teaching-research track over research alone track? given teaching-research track takes a tons of labor.
I guess some of us just enjoy research and teaching equally 😊
@@DrCST then speaking of teaching and researching, is there any u.s or north american equivalent track of research? or is it only unique to uk academia?
do u accept phd student wothout isi essay or without any essay at all?
Each university will have their own requirements for PhD applications, generally they will be looking for students to have demonstrated a range of skills in their CV. Publishing a public essay/paper whilst an undergraduate is challenging and in my subject is not expected prior to starting a PhD. However publishing essays/papers forms a key component once a student is undertaking their PhD. Might be different depending on the subject and country - but I hope this helps.
@@DrCST thanks a lot
