- Travel down one of the least visited sections of the Columbia River, the Hanford Reach, as it flows past the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Hear first-hand accounts of why failure is not an option when it comes to Hanford cleanup. “Hanford: A Race Against Time” shares stunning footage of the Hanford Reach and unique perspectives from experts at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Yakama Nation, Washington Department of Ecology, and others about the compelling case for fast, effective cleanup at Hanford.
Why Hanford Cleanup Matters
Hanford’s nuclear legacy poses an ever-present threat to the Columbia River and river communities. You can join Columbia Riverkeeper and others throughout the nation who are standing up and demanding that the federal government clean up Hanford. Our challenge is to plant our heels at the edge of the Columbia River and ensure future generations don't have to deal with Hanford’s radioactive and toxic legacy.

I worked on the Reach for 11 years doing chinook salmon research. It really is an amazing place and unbelievably productive for salmon and other wildlife.
Well worth a kayak trip with Columbia Riverkeepers to learn firsthand about the urgency to clean up Hanford. Staff and volunteers are a fun and dedicated bunch of people to be around.
Yeah. Join the cool-aid drinkers. Your not going to learn anything paddling your kayak and drinking $5 Star Bucks.
How is this info and this awesome video not been made more present....it is very relevant to what is happening with Chinook salmon moratoriums in place along the Pacific.
Great video! Thank you Columbia Riverkeepers for keeping this topic alive and for leading the charge. The time is now and together we can voice that Hanford needs to be cleaned up NOW!

Hmmm...where are my prior comments + dialogue? I thought it was productive.
40 years of electricity, thousands of years of contamination and waste mismanagement. do the math. never mind , too late
This is concerning and fukushima is still making me nervous. The fact that they were fighting near Chernobyl is insane and it was on fire or at least very close by. What can we do about this insanity. This is not pollution, it is leading to mass extinction.
Also i did my research and in the last twenty years they have safely removed over 4.4 billion gallons of waste and are still making progress. Also Hanford is building the worlds largest chemical treatment plant due to operate in 2019 that will turn the waste into a glass form material where it can safely be stored and deposed of. I think Hanford is actually making awesome progress.
Xantumorian and I cannot agree more with yoi
I know someone who works in the cleanup crew
+Xantumorian They do cleanup hanford however you just can clean it up in three days it takes a long time and strategic planing because one wrong step in the clean up process we're screwed.
