- In 2009 the Hanford Communities produced a television program about the history of Hanford's B Reactor, the world's first full scale nuclear reactor. Included at the end of the program is film footage of the ceremony when the Deputy Directors of the Department of Interior and the Department of Energy visited B Reactor and presented a plaque designating the facility as a National Historic Monument.

Minor error in the narration: the xenon isotope that poisoned the reactor at first startup was xenon-135, not xenon-133.
The (unholy?) trinity of Los Alamos, Oak Ridge and Hanford is the "terrible resolve" the Sleeping Giant was awakened for; creating a juggernaut that the world had never known... for a price.
imagine gainful employment at this joint, so long before it became so highly dangerous to be around.
enjoyed..............learnt a lot.................many thanks.............
This important time in our history was crucial, can you imagine what our world would have been like if Germany would have discovered this before the United States!
we ll never know if it would be better or worse now...
We made the weapons to destroy our enemy's but we destroyed ourselves in the process !
Really? Strange I live in USA and feel great
soviet union/russia did too
To bad they didn't do a better job of control and containment of the waste product ! Or should I say inventory
in this video ww2 was already started in 1933... insightful...

Efforts of epic level. But nuclear material is dirty liability to manage in long-run.
since when is polonium used in nuclear weapons? never heard of that and polonium is found naturally in ore so why would we need to make it?. did the narrator mix up polonium and plutonium?
Hog wash
more environmental racism!
