  • To kick off my new series of smaller day trips I took the short walk from Waihi Beach up the coast to Orakawa Bay, which has to be one of the nicest beaches in New Zealand. While there I did some history hunting to see if I could locate an old Maori Pa.

Ryan, thank you for this adventure. Please keep doing these. I found you because of your dog’s birthday! Loved that and this. Too bad he couldn’t join you on this trek. Thanks again.

Thanks Linda! I’ve been a bit slack on this channel the last few months as I also have my other channel “The Property Hillbillies” which follows myself and Ash renovating property. New vids will be coming here soon though. All the best 😎

What about a big hoon on Google Earth of that overall area to try and identify good strategic sites (up high)? Then a good GPS assisted bushwacking to look on the ground at the potential Pa sites?

That’s actually a good idea! I’ll take a look, cheers!

Lower site could’ve been an agricultural area? Then anyone in the field could retreat to the Pa if warning signal blown.

      Certainly a possible hypothesis 😎

anyone have access to LIDAR? or would that not work for wood structures?
that’s what they use to find buried sites in the Amazon & Central America
