- I do a 24 hour survival challenge where I build a stealth bushcraft shelter in 90 minutes and survive off british military mre ration packs. Using minimal camping gear and a few simple tools I build a stealth survival shelter in just 90 minutes. The sun is setting fast so I need to get the shelter built and make a fire as quickly as I can. Building shelters burns calories fast, but the british 24 hour combat operational ration packs can give you up to 3,000 calories. Each ration pack is designed to provide ample nutrition and calories to last 24 hours in survival, combat, or emergency situations.

Yes Amazon sell them but in limited countries, also Silverman's, if they are still working , as they used to sell everything ex-services and based down in London near Piccadilly?

Prepper shop has a lot of the UK aswell US as individual items of the British ones aswell as some random countries sometimes but other than that ebay or Amazon I'm afraid
If you can get it, try the Russian military mountain ration pack. Think you will enjoy that. OR try dehydrated meals.

a tip for when you are eating those style "rations"....with those deep bags of entrees, dont tear open the top like that...turn it sideways and tear it open long ways and it turns the package into more of a bowl than having to dig into a deep pouch...

Loved, loved, loved that you included a time frame for how long it took you to build that shelter. So many bushcraft channels show shelters being built with no way of knowing if they took a day or a week to make, offers some much appreciated perspective. Love the channel, keep up the great work.
If there's one thing I can suggest based on my years in the army is that tabasco sauce with your rations hides a multitude of gastronomic crimes.

I have been camping my entire life. A few years back, I got into motorcycle camping. Utilizing more primitive camping has allowed me to minimize gear and weight. This year, I bought a far more capable off-road bike to utilize for going deep far from the trails camping. I think I will start building simple shelter structures so I can map them out and reuse them. I like the idea of an adventurous hicker stumbling upon the camp and that they may be able to use it, so I will leave provisions for fire and food as well as a log book. You have provided many great ideas that make my mind run like an excited child. 🤣😂 thanks for the wholesome content from your viewers from the States.
If you cut the meal packs along the long side its easier and you don't get it all over your hands, pro tip

Don't put too much stock into that and do stop projecting your fantasies on your child, he might not be as outdoorsy as you're fantasizing and end up loathing it instead, watch for the signs and don't be one of those parents who force their idea of "fun" upon their children, know when to throw in the towel if necessary.

Best thing you could do with the cinnamon bun is to crumble it up, add a little hot water & a little of the hot chocolate to make a pudding.
Looks so peaceful! I think a trip out in nature a day or two, more alone is a good experience for anyone who loves, appreciates nature, the simple things in life. At 66 y.o. I will do it again soon. Beautiful! I really enjoyed the video.

Hey there. When was your service? Mine was late 90's.
Watching you eat all of that reminded me of my time in the Navy (not on a ship, was expeditionary). We would be in the field and had to eat MREs. Some of it wasn’t bad. Some of it was atrocious. All of it was calorie filled and out of date.
I actually miss those days...
The date on the MRE boxes was the date of manufacture. They didn’t have a use by date.
@@stephencresswell4760 not true. The date on the box usually was manufacture. But when I was in, they had a different date on the plastic packaging for the MREs as well as the individual packaging inside. That was use by date. Sometimes they were still within the date, sometimes they weren’t. But I never got sick off of them so I kept eating them.
Hey what was your rate? I was a BM with the USS Higgins DDG76 and Seabees. I loved being out in the field with the CBs. The atmosphere was so much smoother and relaxing compared to the boat. Oh and im not giving up my jalapeno cheese spread lol. God bless

With the MRE, there's some similarities between the British and American variations.
Ours have a heating element not needed fire.
I'd suggest trying them out since they have probably changed a bit since my discharge in 2008.

I wonder if you could do a video with advice on budget friendly items for first time hikers, micro adventurers, bushcraft, camping, etc. Maybe create whole kit with a budget that is reliable and trustworthy.
Cheap backback thats 600D nylon or canvas, a mora knife, clothes on your back and SKILLS...You do not need much. Try practicing firemaking skills safely in your back yard first. These things combined can cost you less that 50 bucks/quid.

If you have someone in your family or someone close to your family that owns some property out in the country or the woods(for me its my grandpa)
drive out there or have someone drive you out there for half a day to do some bushcraft and shelter building, then come back another day and do a little bit more work(if you doing bigger builds and such, I'm 14 so I know how you feel!)

Nice one Mike, a couple of tips on MRE, heat up the cinnamon bun it's awesome, MRE are made to eat hot or cold that is why you get hot and cold drink options, in the field the smell of a brew will give you away, they are not meant to fill you up, just give you the energy to keep going you can't sleep off a steak dinner in the middle of a firefight, and another thing they don't tell you is they make you constipated, once again it's a combat thing they are made to be used for up to three days then you need a trip to the cookhouse, but they are brilliant for an overnight back packing trip, light, no washing up, and gives you loads of energy to keep going, a rat pack is normally 4000-4500 calories if you include everything in it,

The mental health benefits of getting out in nature and doing things with your hands are extraordinary.
Nice set up with some solid bushwhacking. I'm interested to see what the British military gives to their troops. I've had my share of American MREs while in the Air Force (22 years) and can only recommend a couple- Ratatouille and Meatballs. Can't go wrong with those two. But when it comes to military rations the French REALLY know what they are doing. Theirs beats everyone else's hands down.

I've eaten a lot of UK Army 24 hr rations from 2004-2006, nice to see the new ration pack system. Old one came in a cardboard box. I am sad that the new system doesn't include the vitamin C hard candies, they were a pretty good morale booster in the old pack. And no chocolate bar, clearly there's a new breeze blowing in the kit.

Greetings from Devon. Good to see you out & about again. I was an expedition leader in the RAF & now field craft instructor with the ATC. Old school rat pack tip - squeeze all the contents to the bottom of the pouch then fold the top over as you put in your cup. This gets all the solid portions heated through & doesn’t set fire to the top! I acquired some French rat packs with tinned main meals (sardine tin size) with lasagne. “How bad can it be?” Answer was “hoofing”! It was as good as an M&S ready meal! Lots of other goodies too as well as a flat packed hexamine cooker , fuel, matches & a black rubbish bag. Stay safe & well. I look forward to more vids!

I missed the bushcraft trips and the survival ones... good to see you back at it, and would love to see some overlanding, trips, hikes, fishing, survival, bushcraft and all the good stuff! I remember the MRE rations from the army when we were deployed in the field, wow they were real nasty, everyone only ate the peanuts because it was the only edible food in there, haha!

The Dry Cake is like a Jumbo Tea Biscuit. In the States we dunk those in coffee. I would have added a coffee sachet [packet] to the hot chocolate. i as not demeaning dear ta,s efforts, just some times when i look back and having survived a chase across chile in the 70s hardly any food just ideals and a gun to bring the us. sponcored puppet pinochet down whilst he was executing people in public stadiums. i still blame the usa and uk. i always find these people with their rations funny. it is a blind society now,

I'm learning a lot of stuff, me and my buddy are trying to build an off-grid place like this because we don't have the money for a cabin, and we did a 7 day survival, and we did well, so yeah thank you.
Cabin-wise couldn’t you build one with surrounding trees with a saw, a bunch of lumber spikes, and some determination? I mean it’s just a bunch of trees stacked to make a wall. Forgive me though, im kind of new to this.

Great video buddy, I'm a Veteran, little tip on your ration pack, turn the food bag on a side and open it long ways and eat it from the side, it allows you to get your spork all the way in without getting your fingers messy with food from the inside of the bag 😊👍 also pack some tobacco sauce, it's handy when it's cold, spice up the food a little bit and will keep you warm, I did a review on these ration packs on my channel faiy recently also, keep up the great content mate 👌

I can imagine that as well. Coffee would take down the sweetness or the rich taste of the cinnamon pack nicely I would bet.

I would have made every single one of those diagonal logs exactly twice as long as you made them. It would be the exact same number of cuts. You have plenty of available wood. And it would have made your shelter way more comfortable and useful.
You should probably keep the IFAK on top of the cup with a tourniquet where that Israeli bandage is for ease of access and mark its location on the outside of the pack

You should leave your shelters up so that in a survival situation you have tons of shelters up in different locations
The only problem with that is in wilderness camping it's good practice to leave no trace, not for being tracked or anything like that but just so the natural beauty of the location isn't changed, but I get where you are coming from and that would be pretty cool having loads of camps set up lol

I'm surprised you didn't get more suggestions for rations. The US rations aren't bad, but I'd suggest Australian, Canadian, and Swiss. I'm sure there are others who have more experience or better suggestions, but I thought this might get you started. I tend to enjoy having MREs on camping/hiking trips, just super convenient and tend to taste pretty good without much effort, not to mention you need little to no additional kit...
After one tour of Iraq and two of Afghanistan, swapping ration packs was a must, for the sake of variation. Brit ration packs seemed about the best . US were good but not as much choice. The Canadian one I tried wasn’t bad........the Australians where only there in small numbers, the Swiss well they weren’t anywhere to be seen so never got the chance to try!
Just found your channel and absolutely love it! I am just wondering in your area where you go, do you have to do anything for animal prevention/encounters? I'm from Canada, so when we go out, have to store foods and what not separately, bear spray, etc. I realize that this is a somewhat survival scenario, but am genially curious if it is something you have to prepare for normally. Sorry if you have talked about this in another episode, I'm still new and working my way through your content. Anyhow, love this, keep up the amazing channel!

It may be too deep, or too many roots from the pines, but I've seen others dig the duff out down to dirt before making the fire. Just extra precaution. Keep on keeping on. 1.77M is a lot of subs. Nice!
The Dakota fire pit? It would be far too dangerous to do that on this type of peaty soil. Great for clay based soils though 👍🏻
@@TAOutdoors Not a Dakota fire pit. Just clearing the duff. You answered my question though. “Peaty soil”. Clearing the duff would do very little as the soil below it is still filled with organic matter that would also burn. Yes. I am more accustomed to clay soils. 2-3” of duff removal and your down to soil that is safe for a fire.
