I was surprised to learn (elsewhere) that Frances Bavier (Aunt Bea) was not liked by the other actors, nor did she care for them. Obviously she was a good actress!

I grew up on Mayberry and considered it my own home town. Andy and his co stars will always be my happy memories of childhood.

God, I must be getting old as I remember this show and loved Don Knotts and Jim Nabors. Incredible series in its day. Thanks again, Brenton

So you never answer the question in the title.

Yeah, I stopped watching because I wasn't seeing any sign of him addressing his title, and I went to the comments to check, to save myself some time. So, I just want to thank you for your comment, and for the "heads up."

I understand that actors are acting. I have a friend who considered Andy Taylor and Andy Griffin as the same person. She was heartbroken when I told how he really was. How can educated people not understand what acting is?

My 13 year old son loves the Andy Griffith show, has watched it all the way through. I am shocked because there are soooo many other shows that I would think he'd be interested in, but he really prefers it. He feels that characters feel like real people and he thinks it's very funny

I am curious as to what his opinion is about the b/w era vs the color coming to the show. I'm a nastalgia kind of guy.

His "What it Was, Was Football" is the funniest thing I may have ever heard. It draws you in and you become the Observer, and you begin to see it through his eyes and then when the punchline is delivered... I'm giggling now.... well y'all just have to look it up and find a video of it or something.. you have to hear it for yourself. Please seek it out. It is a barrel full of belly laughs to be sure!

i read Andy punched a wall at home during an altercation with his wife when he had been drinking. The wife was an alcoholic who at one point went into AA but continued to drink after leaving the AA treatment. I do not believe Andy was an alcoholic because if so he would not have did so well in his career. Their marriage was very unhappy. I think they married too young and the infatuation with each other eventually wore off.

It was shocking to hear Andy's several marriages and proposing to one woman while married to another. He seemed such a moral man.

I'd heard about an angry Andy punching the wall, so when I saw the title "Why Andy Griffith Had Put His Fist Through a Wall in a Moment of Anger?", it looked like I'd finally get the full story. Fifteen minutes later, I'd learned that Andy punched a wall in a moment of anger.

I am huge AGS fan and have aced 4/5 trivia quizzes on the show.
I visited Mt. Airy several years ago but didn't run into Betty Lynn.
We did get to eat at The Snappy Lunch, a restaurant specialized in pork chop sandwiches. It is mentioned by name on only ONE episode. No, it wasn't the Mayberry diner, which made it into several scenes of the show.
I don't believe the museum was there at the time of my visit. I was in HEAVEN!

I truly had enjoyed the show, but it seems the last of the episodes when it became color broadcast were less funny than the b and w episodes.

I think the absence of Barney was the biggest reason for that. I think the rest of the cast missed him as much as the viewers did.

Once Don Knott's left, the show lost its luster. I am VERY surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I saw in another documentary that the day of JFK's association, production on the show was stopped for the day un honor of the president.
I saw another documentary about the Kennedy Curse. The family endured many tragedies over those years including the death of two oddest children while in the service, a botched Braun procedure on another then the death of JFK, Jr.

Andy was not taken in by relatives until his parents could buy a house. Truth is that Andy’s parents were already
living with relatives when he was born. Once his parents were able to buy a house he and his parents moved from the relatives’ house to their own house.
His parents were poor. They didn’t have the money to buy infant Andy a crib so as an infant he did sleep in a dresser
drawer while he and his parents lived with the relatives. You make it sound like he slept in a dresser drawer on and off throughout his childhood. I don’t think he would’ve fit in a dresser drawer when he was 4 years old or 9 or 12 or 17.
You have things mixed up. Andy and Aneta did have an affair starting shortly after Aneta joined the cast in season 3 in 1963. The affair continued until her death in 1995. Andy did ask Aneta to marry him 2-3 times but she said no because she didn’t want to give up her independence. It was Elinor Donahue who played Ellie Walker, Andy’s love interest in season 1 who asked to be released from her contract. Lack of chemistry may have been part of it but working too hard by going straight from years on Father Knows Best directly to The Andy Griffith Show and problems in her personal life factored in as well. You made it sound like Aneta asked to be released from her contract, but Aneta never did that.
Aneta’s last name Corsaut is pronounced Core-sew, not Cores-out. And when you’re using Andy’s last name and talking about something that is his it’s not Griffithses. It’s Griffith’s.
