i went to Airy, NC 3 weeks ago for Mayberry Days and it was the GREATEST! I also had the opportunity to meet "Thelma Lou" and talk to her personally for about 10 minutes! What a great experience! Thanks for the show and all - past and present! I Love Ya'll!

My sister was one of Andy Griffith's students in Goldsboro, NC, where I was born. Our father was stationed there at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. As to his performance personality development, Andy credited a Moravian Church pastor, in his home town, with teaching him to play several musical instruments, and with performing in front of others. I enjoy your videos, Jerry. Please keep it up!
Barry Bryan, it's funny but my young daughter hated the show but now she's almost 30 years old, married, has two little ones, and actually watches this show every day! Her husband even mentioned it to me although I see her most days and see the show on her phone, a tablet and/or the television. Sometimes she might watch a little Beverly Hillbillies but later in the day it's back to Mayberry! It's an endearing, addictive show.
I watched the show when I was 11 years old and I am still watching it now that I am 72 years old. I purchased the entire series on DVD and I never get tired of watching. I love all the characters. There is nothing on TV today to compare. I don't even bother to look at the trash that is on the air now. It is really pathetic! Thank you for providing such great reviews of the show and it's very talented actors. I thoroughly enjoy them!
driveman I still watch the reruns everyday in my city. They come on from 4pm -6pm on one channel and 8pm -9pm on other channel. And I have special episodes I like to see over and over again that are my favorite. A True fan since the very early 60's.

I have seen every episode of the Andy Griffith Show about 5 times, lol. I just read a book about the show. It was interesting...Andy was quite the ladies man, Barney had his women too. My father-in-law was City Attorney of Burbank, CA and told me that he played golf with Don Knotts a few times. He said he was very nice. I am looking forward to Ron Howard's Beatles documentary that will be coming out soon. You are so awesome Ron. Great career! You are so talented and creative.
Hey, the best decision they ever made was hiring Andy and Don Knotts and letting him co script. Andy and Don are two of my favorite people and that show has been on the air since before I was born. They can't pry it off the tv with a crowbar LOL It's a staple; not only on tv but churches you it to teach messages. They are truly responsible for God's work with that show. It's clean, wholesome and relatable to everyone watching. Thanks guys!
Midnight I don't recall seeing this myself, but I've read that very early on the show Andy and Barney were supposed to be related, and Andy referred to Don Knotts as Cousin Barney.

I watched this show as a little boy and laughed at the slap stick humor and escapades of Deputy Fife. 40 years later I am watching the show as a middle aged man. I see it from a different point of view. I know now why this show still draws people in. We all wish we could reside in Mayberry and we all wish we had a friend like Andy Taylor, The High Sheriff of Mayberry. People make fun of me for loving The Andy Griffith Show. It's one of the most wholesome 30 minutes you can spend in a day. Real life can be so depressing...just read the paper or the online news. The good thing's in life are so welcome. The bum Buddy Ebsen portrayed was promiscuous? All I saw was Buddy steal one of Aunt Bee's sandwich's from the patrol car....you and I saw a different version of the episode. Opie Taylor was my dream child lol.
Hi Jerry, Thanks for another excellent video. Back in the 80's I was in the computer industry and while on one of my visits to one of the facilities in Pinehurst, NC I was told by one of the data processing managers that the lady who played Aunt Bee was in one of the other facilities in the area and that she was very upset that she was not being noticed as the actor she was. I was shocked since that lady always seemed so sweet in the series. Of course, now days someone would have been fired for even mentioning anything about a patient. If she was so grouchy to Andy as you explained, she sure did a great job of being in character when they filmed that series. That program is truly timeless and after all of these years it's still fun to watch. I particularly like it when I am sick and not interested in listening to discouraging news and sitcoms where the theme seems to be insulting each other or bathroom / bedroom talk in graphic to obscene terms. I guess that is what has to be called comfort TV..LOL Again, thanks for your great video and insight into the lives of these great actors from the past.

My mom got me and my siblings watching this show on TV Land channel as we grew up. My mom was just a little kid when her grandmother would watch this show on repeats with her. Its kind of a tradition, I guess you could say, in my family. This is a really funny and great show and we have all learned from it as well to be good, love and appreciate each other as well as friends and neighbors. We all really enjoy it as a family. Who wouldn't have wanted Andy Taylor as a dad! (Though I love my dad very much but he said the very same thing) Thank you for the tribute! 😂😂😂

I am from North Carolina, and remember very well the day of Andy Griffith's passing. One of our local news stations noon newscast even devoted the entire 30 minute show to pay tribute to him. He was very beloved in our state.

One day my husband asked me between the Andy Griffith show and I Love Lucy, which sitcom I liked more. So I started counting my favorite episodes between the two shows and Andy Griffith episodes won by about 20 episodes more over I Love Lucy most of it due to Barney Fife, Ernest T. Bass & the Darlings episodes as well as the interaction Andy had with Opie, Aunt Bee, Gomer Pyle, Goober, Thelma Lou, Helen & Floyd the barber. Oh and let’s not forget Reta Shaw as the inmate escapee who had a crush on Barney. Thanks for the memories Mr. Skinner. You’re a great narrator. 🙏🏻❤️
This had been a staple in my childhood home with my father and now have developed this tradition with my own children. And I'm serious when I say, its thee cleanest ,most wholesome, and most relevant t.v. show that's still aired today. I dont know anyone who watches this legendary series, that dosent wish times were like this today. This show makes you treat people better and makes you want to live your life in a manner that god himself would want you to. Its thee last remaining guide on how things should be and how you should live your life.
Jerry, I won't bore you with repeating how well you do these just know I think I've watched this one twice and I just sit here and get very emotional thinking of these good people and how they affected my growing up and even to this day while I sit here missing the type of people they were and why we don't have any more good people like Andy and the others. Very sad but I'm happy to have had these shows in my life and going back with you here was nice. Thank you.

I've been enjoying watching The Andy Griffith Show on Netflix and started viewing every single episode from the very first one. It's fun as I'm watching this while here on a temporary move to Hollywood, CA, for the past year, as I'm missing my home in North Carolina. I, too, love the kind, caring basic way of life this show brings into our homes, and I think I'm enjoying the show more now then I did when it was airing in the 60's! It was a excellent show, but when Don Knotts left it was never the same. I think he took the heart of that show with him. Also, when the show went from black and white to color, it lost something. Nonetheless it was definitely a Great American classic TV show.

It's been said that when Don left, he took Andy's heart and will to play the same character the same way with him. I've read that he said when he decided to renew (and stay on) the show for 3 more seasons, he knew that Don had been looking at other work but he never expected Don to turn down the 3 remaining seasons (though Andy respected and supported him). Don had already signed a 5 year contract with MGM or Disney (can't remember which). Andy explained that after 5 years day in and day out with his best friend, he eventually lost the connection with Andy Taylor, who the Sheriff had been. With Don gone, the chemistry was gone. His only true connection that remained was Ron Howard (with whom he also became close lifelong friends with). With Don gone and Andy's loss of connection to 60-65 Andy Taylor, his performance changed. He also had fights with Francis Bavier, which eventually played on his nerves. He was heartbroken without Don and stressed to the max with Francis, and it showed on screen. His irritation was evident. There were some wonderful color episodes, especially in season 6 and 8, but nothing compares to the B&W versions. It wasn't only that Barney wasn't there, it was that Don was gone, and without Don, Andy had no way to be his old self (they played off each other so well). Look at the episodes where Barney returned... Andy's character reverts to nearly the same Sheriff as in 60-65.
The Andy Griffith Show helped me to grow up to be the person I am today. It’s a shame there isn’t a program today in its league. It would be so helpful to so many children living in severely dysfunctional families. I thank God for blessing us all with this show.
This was enjoyable to watch. I liked the whole cast. Seems the show never gets old and I never tire of watching it....tho I've got most episodes memorized.
Loved it..I knew Mitch Jayne the bass player in the Darlin's band.. he would do reunions every once in a while with all the cast. he passed away about 10 yr.s ago at his home in South Central Mo. Most of the other band members still play as their original name the Dillard's

I wouldn't trade when I grew up for anything. My sons don't understand how we made it, didn't have the "games". We had a great time because we had imagination and stayed outside. We were innocent for the most part.
Mary Lawson that's so true, I grew up on a ranch, summers were the best. Playing baseball until you couldn't see anymore, barefoot with dirt maps all over your arms and legs. Tag, playing cowboys and indians, hide and seek, jax, riding our bikes on dirt roads. Damn! What I wouldn't do to go back.

Jerry you have done well, this was a great walk down memory lane. It saddens me though, that all good things have to come to a end. I truly don't know what happened to TV these days. With these shows you can laugh plus kind of learn a message from them, it made you appreciate life and family values. I had heard so many sad story about how Aunt Bee, but you gave so much enlightenment to her of how she was sorry and it showed honor to her. It was the way you worded it. We have no ideal what a person is going through in there life. Kinda made me weep. Very good video thank you for your hard work.

Ron Howard is one the very few child actors who turned out to be a success later in life in the business he was raised in. It's sad that Andy, Barney, and Aunt Bee have passed. Mr. Skinner thanks for such a beautiful tribute to The Andy Griffith Cast. A job well done.

Television shows often stay alive in reruns. The great ones stay on the air from one generation to another. That's because they always seem fresh and in watching them you always come across a jewel that you had not seen before. We all wish we could go back to Mayberry.

You did a fine job on this and I thank You, it pushed me to look further into the cast from the show. I learned in the last of season 3 Floyd the Barber had a stroke, we don't see much activity at the Barber Shop until the middle on Season 4 where Floyd was always propped up in a chair holding a newspaper in his bad left hand and one time standing held onto Thelma Lou so he couldn't fall. He died a year later. I was very saddened about that as I was very fond of the Barber. Thank You so much for this video
You are so talented, I would rate you as one of the top three CZcams movie makers on CZcams. I just watched your Andy Griffith and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid documentaries. Your research and depth you share with your viewers is a gift. A 44 minute documentary floated by in what felt like minutes. I love the old west and the history that has created it. After watching your Butch and Sundance documentary, my youngest son and I drove up north to Forest Lawn Memorial Park Glendale and visited the grave of William "Elzy" Lay in the Graceland section. He is buried next to his wife Mary. His son James is buried just down the road from us in Bonita. His youngest daughter Mary is also buried at Forest Lawn with her husband Ralph. Amazing history. Thank you for sharing your outstanding documentaries.

I watched an interview with Andy & he said , Don called him and asked if he needed a deputy . They pitched the idea to Sheldon Leanard & Barney was added to the show. Andy freely admitted that without Barney the show never would've had the success it did. And he stated , the show was never the same after Don left to fullfill his movie ambitions. The only Emmys awarded for that show were all 3 given to Don. I allwsys thought it was odd that all who knew Don said he was quiet & reserved.

I loved Betty Lynn aka Thelma Lou. I got to meet her and Ernest T. Bass the first year my husband took me to Mt. Airy for The Mayberry Days. It was so exciting to see both ifvthem and get to talk to them and I got their autographs. I've never got to go back but I hold those memories deep in my heart. I was so tickled to see the rocks in Earnest T. Bass's burlap bag laying on the floor beside him. I only wish I could've gone back year after year. My kids say I'm the biggest Andy Griffith show ever. I do love the show and watched it today.

I watched this show as a little boy and laughed at the slap stick humor and escapades of Deputy Fife.
40 years later I am watching the show as a middle aged man. I see it from a different point of view. I know now why this show still draws people in. We all wish we could reside in Mayberry and we all wish we had a friend like Andy Taylor, The High Sheriff of Mayberry.

People make fun of me for loving The Andy Griffith Show. It's one of the most wholesome 30 minutes you can spend in a day. Real life can be so depressing...just read the paper or the online news. The good thing's in life are so welcome. The bum Buddy Ebsen portrayed was promiscuous? All I saw was Buddy steal one of Aunt Bee's sandwich's from the patrol car....you and I saw a different version of the episode. Opie Taylor was my dream child lol.

Hi Jerry, Thanks for another excellent video. Back in the 80's I was in the computer industry and while on one of my visits to one of the facilities in Pinehurst, NC I was told by one of the data processing managers that the lady who played Aunt Bee was in one of the other facilities in the area and that she was very upset that she was not being noticed as the actor she was. I was shocked since that lady always seemed so sweet in the series. Of course, now days someone would have been fired for even mentioning anything about a patient.
If she was so grouchy to Andy as you explained, she sure did a great job of being in character when they filmed that series.
That program is truly timeless and after all of these years it's still fun to watch. I particularly like it when I am sick and not interested in listening to discouraging news and sitcoms where the theme seems to be insulting each other or bathroom / bedroom talk in graphic to obscene terms. I guess that is what has to be called comfort TV..LOL

My mom got me and my siblings watching this show on TV Land channel as we grew up. My mom was just a little kid when her grandmother would watch this show on repeats with her. Its kind of a tradition, I guess you could say, in my family. This is a really funny and great show and we have all learned from it as well to be good, love and appreciate each other as well as friends and neighbors. We all really enjoy it as a family. Who wouldn't have wanted Andy Taylor as a dad! (Though I love my dad very much but he said the very same thing) Thank you for the tribute! 😂😂😂

I am from North Carolina, and remember very well the day of Andy Griffith's passing. One of our local news stations noon newscast even devoted the entire 30 minute show to pay tribute to him. He was very beloved in our state.

One day my husband asked me between the Andy Griffith show and I Love Lucy, which sitcom I liked more. So I started counting my favorite episodes between the two shows and Andy Griffith episodes won by about 20 episodes more over I Love Lucy most of it due to Barney Fife, Ernest T. Bass & the Darlings episodes as well as the interaction Andy had with Opie, Aunt Bee, Gomer Pyle, Goober, Thelma Lou, Helen & Floyd the barber. Oh and let’s not forget Reta Shaw as the inmate escapee who had a crush on Barney. Thanks for the memories Mr. Skinner. You’re a great narrator. 🙏🏻❤️

This had been a staple in my childhood home with my father and now have developed this tradition with my own children. And I'm serious when I say, its thee cleanest ,most wholesome, and most relevant t.v. show that's still aired today. I dont know anyone who watches this legendary series, that dosent wish times were like this today. This show makes you treat people better and makes you want to live your life in a manner that god himself would want you to. Its thee last remaining guide on how things should be and how you should live your life.
Truely a amazing show. I watched them in the 70's and still would. In the top 10 family shows of all time.
Jerry, I won't bore you with repeating how well you do these just know I think I've watched this one twice and I just sit here and get very emotional thinking of these good people and how they affected my growing up and even to this day while I sit here missing the type of people they were and why we don't have any more good people like Andy and the others. Very sad but I'm happy to have had these shows in my life and going back with you here was nice. Thank you.

I've been enjoying watching The Andy Griffith Show on Netflix and started viewing every single episode from the very first one. It's fun as I'm watching this while here on a temporary move to Hollywood, CA, for the past year, as I'm missing my home in North Carolina. I, too, love the kind, caring basic way of life this show brings into our homes, and I think I'm enjoying the show more now then I did when it was airing in the 60's! I really enjoyed this video with the history you've provided. Thank you so very much for doing this!

It was a excellent show, but when Don Knotts left it was never the same. I think he took the heart of that show with him. Also, when the show went from black and white to color, it lost something. Nonetheless it was definitely a Great American classic TV show.
Don knotts loved him in everything i saw him in . It was a shame when we lost him. I still watch rerun today @t 61 years old.

Couldn't agree more.
It's been said that when Don left, he took Andy's heart and will to play the same character the same way with him. I've read that he said when he decided to renew (and stay on) the show for 3 more seasons, he knew that Don had been looking at other work but he never expected Don to turn down the 3 remaining seasons (though Andy respected and supported him). Don had already signed a 5 year contract with MGM or Disney (can't remember which). Andy explained that after 5 years day in and day out with his best friend, he eventually lost the connection with Andy Taylor, who the Sheriff had been. With Don gone, the chemistry was gone. His only true connection that remained was Ron Howard (with whom he also became close lifelong friends with).
With Don gone and Andy's loss of connection to 60-65 Andy Taylor, his performance changed.
He also had fights with Francis Bavier, which eventually played on his nerves. He was heartbroken without Don and stressed to the max with Francis, and it showed on screen. His irritation was evident.
There were some wonderful color episodes, especially in season 6 and 8, but nothing compares to the B&W versions.
It wasn't only that Barney wasn't there, it was that Don was gone, and without Don, Andy had no way to be his old self (they played off each other so well). Look at the episodes where Barney returned... Andy's character reverts to nearly the same Sheriff as in 60-65.

The Andy Griffith Show helped me to grow up to be the person I am today. It’s a shame there isn’t a program today in its league. It would be so helpful to so many children living in severely dysfunctional families. I thank God for blessing us all with this show.
This was enjoyable to watch. I liked the whole cast. Seems the show never gets old and I never tire of watching it....tho I've got most episodes memorized.

Loved it..I knew Mitch Jayne the bass player in the Darlin's band.. he would do reunions every once in a while with all the cast. he passed away about 10 yr.s ago at his home in South Central Mo. Most of the other band members still play as their original name the Dillard's

I wouldn't trade when I grew up for anything. My sons don't understand how we made it, didn't have the "games". We had a great time because we had imagination and stayed outside. We were innocent for the most part.
Mary Lawson that's so true, I grew up on a ranch, summers were the best. Playing baseball until you couldn't see anymore, barefoot with dirt maps all over your arms and legs. Tag, playing cowboys and indians, hide and seek, jax, riding our bikes on dirt roads. Damn! What I wouldn't do to go back.

I truly don't know what happened to TV these days. With these shows you can laugh plus kind of learn a message from them, it made you appreciate life and family values. I had heard so many sad story about how Aunt Bee, but you gave so much enlightenment to her of how she was sorry and it showed honor to her. It was the way you worded it. We have no ideal what a person is going through in there life. Kinda made me weep. Very good video thank you for your hard work.

Wow, I had no idea that Aunt Bee was such a different person in real life. That says a lot about her amazing acting skills.
Ron Howard is one the very few child actors who turned out to be a success later in life in the business he was raised in. It's sad that Andy, Barney, and Aunt Bee have passed. Mr. Skinner thanks for such a beautiful tribute to The Andy Griffith Cast. A job well done.

Television shows often stay alive in reruns. The great ones stay on the air from one generation to another. That's because they always seem fresh and in watching them you always come across a jewel that you had not seen before. We all wish we could go back to Mayberry.

You did a fine job on this and I thank You, it pushed me to look further into the cast from the show. I learned in the last of season 3 Floyd the Barber had a stroke, we don't see much activity at the Barber Shop until the middle on Season 4 where Floyd was always propped up in a chair holding a newspaper in his bad left hand and one time standing held onto Thelma Lou so he couldn't fall. He died a year later. I was very saddened about that as I was very fond of the Barber. Thank You so much for this video

You are so talented, I would rate you as one of the top three CZcams movie makers on CZcams. I just watched your Andy Griffith and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid documentaries. Your research and depth you share with your viewers is a gift. A 44 minute documentary floated by in what felt like minutes. I love the old west and the history that has created it. After watching your Butch and Sundance documentary, my youngest son and I drove up north to Forest Lawn Memorial Park Glendale and visited the grave of William "Elzy" Lay in the Graceland section. He is buried next to his wife Mary. His son James is buried just down the road from us in Bonita. His youngest daughter Mary is also buried at Forest Lawn with her husband Ralph. Amazing history. Thank you for sharing your outstanding documentaries.

The reruns still go on and children of today still enjoy watching something funny and new to them....

I watched an interview with Andy & he said , Don called him and asked if he needed a deputy .
They pitched the idea to Sheldon Leanard & Barney was added to the show.
Andy freely admitted that without Barney the show never would've had the success it did.
And he stated , the show was never the same after Don left to fullfill his movie ambitions.
The only Emmys awarded for that show were all 3 given to Don.
I allwsys thought it was odd that all who knew Don said he was quiet & reserved.

I loved Betty Lynn aka Thelma Lou. I got to meet her and Ernest T. Bass the first year my husband took me to Mt. Airy for The Mayberry Days. It was so exciting to see both ifvthem and get to talk to them and I got their autographs. I've never got to go back but I hold those memories deep in my heart. I was so tickled to see the rocks in Earnest T. Bass's burlap bag laying on the floor beside him. I only wish I could've gone back year after year. My kids say I'm the biggest Andy Griffith show ever. I do love the show and watched it today.
