Always appreciate when a seasoned FPV everyday film dude reviews a Hybrid FPV consumer drone. Great info!
Can’t wait too see your take on it 🫡
Waiting for you review
Cap this drone has your name all over it lol
@@jackofallhobbies1545 Capvanta
Hybrid FPV seems to be the right term. I enjoy too much driving real FPV to invest in this kind of thing.
I really dislike that we don't get the "normal" controller with this thing:-(. Thank you for a real review. There are too much "camera platform" youtube reviewers who really don't know what they are talking about.
Also wish you would be able to use normal Lipo's and aftermarket props for easy replacement long after they would discontinue this like they have with the DJI FPV qwad last year.
Can’t wait for Dji Avata V.2
@@whitepolyester No need with a custom built drone!
@@pricelessppp good luck building a quad that has the tech this thing has
@@creationlabsinc.189 Why would you want or need that tech. Just learn to fly and not hit people
This review is by far the best I have seen today and I have seen some good ones. Outstanding.
Love your current production quality Nurk! Glad to see you are killing it!
Thanks Nurk ....great review its nice to see someone at last cover distance and signal penetration super impressed with the range. I think like you I would transfer this onto my own build but what and improvement from the first FPV DJI... shame the goggles are not yet backward compatible considering allot of folk have invested heavily in DJI air units / Vista .. DJI listen up and give us this option...
Great review Nurk. The Avata to me is more a travelling cinewhoop that let us pack with very minimal stuff and get the most out of flight time to explore and get creative. Amaze with video quality and video transmission penetration, something that I have been wanting on cinewhoop. ✌️
Dope video my dude!! Thank you for the well thought out and informative review. I'm definitely getting one. So far imo this has been the most indepth review yet and why I'm getting an Avata. Thanks again Nurk!!!
Of the hundreds of Avata videos I've already watched, yours has been the best. Long videos are just fine if they are packed with useful information. This was all killer, no filler!
Always love your content! I am very happy to see this drone. I have held off on buying the previous FPV from DJI. This is definitely more the style I am seeking. I get that DJI stability while I learn, and then can turn myself loose on manual. Perhaps saving many unnecessary crash, repairs, and replacements.
I fly the diy at home but will most likely get this for traveling, its just soooo much easier to pack compared to a full backpack of fpv gear
Get a mini3 for travel its got better video quality.
Add me and see me
after ripping an arm of a mav mini im in the same boat hahaha now I will say I was able to screw it on and only tapped a tree branch and fell to the ground so was not too crazy, but for deep sends sounds logical
The avata is incredibly durable. I sat on mine yesterday and it was fine lmao
My azz kinda hurts tho lol 😂
It can’t handle sharp 180s flying in full manual mode. It’s not a freestyle quad it’s a pro film making tool. The DJI fpv is designed for hard turn, high speeds and getting shots on the move. The Avata is designed for low winds close quarters filming around people through a set senerio or in buildings.
The fpv flight style with out all the hassle, those of you that fly full manual and your heavy with your fingers and try and 180 you’ll get tumble
We're super excited to have this drone and are using it for fly-through real estate videos. It's an amazing tool. Thanks for all the great info and comparisons.
Really great way to package the review on this drone. I've played with FPV but not been able to crack the nut. I think this is going to be a game changer for me. Thanks for your candid comments and fun presentation. Great content!
The safer flight system is very much a gamechanger. Can't wait to pilot this awesome drone!
Great video, thanks for all the input! I bought my first DJI drone in may, the M3P, and I love this litte thing, especially that I am allowed to use it almost everywhere because of the
Hi ! I am a newbie and have been following the different Videos about this new Avata FPV Drone. I enjoyed your video and I believe it is one of the few that are very well organized in discussing and analyzing a new product. You developed a well thought progressive stream of information by introducing the product and detailing the different features and accessories that come with it. Then you put it to the test by using your expertise and showing us all the different modes and features in actual use. Finally you made us know your opinion based on your professional experience and made some suggestions and recommendations that will not only be heard by the DJI people but also by people like me and others interested in a trusty evaluation on a new product. Thank you for your time and effort on this beautiful piece of Visual, Verbal and Professional analysis ! Subscribed !
I’m going to get this because of your review. I’ve always wanted to explore this hobby but was always put off from the barrier of entry. This changes everything
Very informative. Well produced. I am a professional UAV pilot and have been for almost a decade. My bread and butter is in mapping and other pedestrian endeavors. I've been casually following the FPV drones but lacked the desire to build an FPV drone (I have built a few drones). I always felt that an FPV drone without prop guards would be useless. And other limitations like battery and transmission limitations have kept me in the wings. It's good to see that if a client absolutely wants some kind of tight building shot that the technology is now at a point where I feel I can plop down some cash, practice a bit and perhaps deliver useable product. Again, good job. Subscribed.
Ditto- for those of us who fly non-fpv for various uses and may get the odd request for a shot indoors or in tight spaces (I had someone ask me to shoot a flythrough of a wooden cabin boat stored inside a barn, starting in the boat and ending outside looking down at the open barn) this will be perfect rather than having to rope in a specialist.
I don't think it will ever replace a good FPV pilot, but for a quick real estate shot or something it will definitely fill a gap.
I’ve been flying gps drones and a few rando bnf fpv quads. I’ve got tons of time on the sim too. I got my avata last week and unless you are willing to put lots of time in on the sticks you still aren’t going to get the good fpv shots that want with the avata. You just aren’t going to get the footage you want if you can’t fly acro, period imo. I love the avata. Don’t get me wrong. It’s a great fpv quad for beginners and it’s also a fantastic tool for professionals, but the value is in the footage. If you can only do what everyone else can already do then there’s little value in your service. My suggestion is to learn the f@ck out of acro so you can stay ahead of your competition. The avata will definitely do the job but DJI isn’t going to do the work for you to replace necessary skills. The footage in nanny and sport mode just isn’t the same as acro no matter how you slice it.
What an amazing time we live in. I think you did the Avata a great service. As a new drone pilot and a few weeks under my belt with a mini 3 pro, I'm switching to the Avata. Originally, I got the mini for real estate photos but found it to be too fragile for fun use and one gentle collusion with a tree branch (orbit mode) was enough to send it off to be repaired. I come from decades of being a RC hobbyist. Planes, trains and automobiles! Not so much with the trains. Point being, I want to have fun with my RCs. I feel like the Avata will be both a tool for a generic aerial photo of homes and for (eventually) ripping it up at a park or interesting location. I live in such a boring area that the mini's novelty wore off quickly. Yeah, it was cool to see my house from 400ft up and the rest of the neighborhood too, but that got old after day one. I want to be able to fly like so many of you pros do and turn even the most mundane locations into an obstacle course without the fear of one wrong move and I'm without a drone for a few weeks. Hopefully the Avata fulfills that role. Excellent video!
I have not seen a video Nurk posted that I didn’t like. Always awesome footage and always great info! I was already sold on this, but Nurk basically answered all my questions and def solidified my decision.
Best review of this drone I’ve seen. Now question. Lots of work went into it, I can tell. Thank you!!
Great review and test video. Pretty cool setup. I'm hoping dji decides to make goggles backwards compatible. I'd buy them if so.
VTX penetration is the most impressive. Can’t wait to see the new air unit that I won’t be able to afford haha.
Excellent, constructive review of the Avata. Much more useful than the initial flurry of quick-post review of others. I really liked this style of content. The info provided about the features and specs helps me at least understand the chunky high prices DJI has set….
Great info, Nurk! I got into FPV at the beginning of 2020 - started with a tiny whoop, upgraded to a cine whoop and a pair of box fat sharks to start doing projects and have in my production kit.
I love flying and my primary use is filmmaking. The management is the part I least want to deal with - this seems like it will make that aspect much easier while fitting my need: 4K recording, great range and penetration, and the combo pack will give me gear upgrades all-around.
Appreciate the great review of the pros and cons. Helps me feel more confident about navigating things!
I'm just excited for the new O3 air unit, and the ability to use the smaller controller with custom quads. Goggles seem to be cool too
No support for new goggles on fpv builds , unless they come put with new air units
@@bigchief0884 the O3 air unit. Exactly what he just said
@@bigchief0884 read his comment again lol
Been waiting for this release and man it looks fun! After yrs of building/flying fpv I'm kinda tired of soldering, dealing with lipos, and configuring betaflight. I can understand why people just throw money at prebuilt stuff... Too bad they couldn't get it under 250g and the whole kit is just pricey. However the specs and overall value is pretty amazing compared to building and setting up a digital fpv cinewhoop with anywhere near the flight time, range, or ease of use... I do worry about a lot more irresponsible drone pilots making the hobby look bad every time DJI puts out something amazing and easy to fly.
agree 100%
Weight (AUW) is mostly attributed to battery and thus flight time. DJI likely prioritized offering 10+ minutes flight time vs. trying to hit the under 250g. In future as battery technology evolves this will likely be possible. (typically battery weight drops ~40-40% every 7-10 years for same amount of capacity)
Exactly
it is very pricey compared to other cinewhoops especially considering it is all proprietary.
Edit: I just specced it out, I think you would need to buy the $1,168 package with v2 goggles + motion controller + drone, (if you want the new goggles add $200 but honestly they don't work with other drones so rn that's a no from me), then the controller for $200, then extra batteries for $280 bringing the total to:
$1,648 or $1,868 w/ the new goggles
@@stealthyfang3660 True. The Avata does offer a number of features not offered on typical cinewhoops. The tilt camera, ability to hold altitude and hover in position, and ability to transition for manual flight to a stable hover. Not every pilot needs, but some might consider this added value in a $629 (drone-only) option.
There is a audience for this cinedrone. Many FPV pilots may not consider this good value for their needs.
Nice to see you back Nurk... ever since i saw your train FPV flight i lookforward to your vids... i like the look of this new dji fpv drone ...i have the older one but this one seems to fit the purpose loads better.
you are still the master...the force is strong with this one...you sure have become a true professional, not just flying which is a given, just your drive alone is great enthusiasm and production along with many features great review!
I would like to see it be compatible with the RC Smart controller. That way one could either go FPV or just use the Smart controller. The best of both worlds!
Put both goggles and smart controller on a tripod, connect them via usb and there you go :)
Great video Nurk, I think the drone is great for newbies and pros alike. I like that the barrier to entry into FPV is getting easier for new people looking to get into the hobby, FPV is a tough hobby, but with drones like this give people an option to take the hard route or the easier one.
side note, it's lame we gotta buy the controller separately though.
Sick review!!! I appreciate your valued input it makes a big difference coming from you Nurk! 😎👌🏻 I'm going to wait till Christmas to get one
I think nurk is the best FPV pilot on CZcams and I believe his opinion on the products he reviews ! Thank for keeping it entertaining and most of all thank you for keeping it real when it comes to your channel ! 🙏
Great video and review!
Did you fly at night? how was it?
I have a DJI FPV and it is pretty bad to fly at night! I really enjoy flying at night with my Polar cameras but not with the DJI FPV, just wondering how is this one!
tks
Great review Paul! I am most impressed with the range. This seems like a better option for beginners than the original DJI FPV. Thanks for the info!
Ordered mine this early morning. Shows shipped
totally agree.
Happy to see you post bro I've recently got into fpv and got the dji fpv I'm just happy to see you post
There's nothing like building and flying your own cinewhoop. Your Shendrone build video was the ticket for me and with the GoPro 10 mounted that drone has been my go to 6s cinewhoop for over a year now. From what I've seen, the Avata isn't a huge improvement over my old 6s shendrone. I think I will be sticking to my Shen for the time being. Thanks for making this video Nurk. Your work has been a true inspiration to the FPV community. Keep up the Great work!
Great Video! One bummer is that the new goggles won't work with Vista or Air Unit. I would probably upgrade to them if I could use them with my other DJI FPV stuff!
I give it 1 year and most will look at vistas and og cams as a relics. Happened over 2 years ago when dji system came out. Analog was still king but dipped significantly within a year
Unless I missed it, did you talk about the goggle feed experience ? 720p of the old system vs 1080p of the new goggle ? Is it a big upgrade in terms of live feed quality. ?
Honestly the Vista and DJI air unit already looks so absolutely stunning and they are still so many people who are fine with analog. We have to remember what we really need and this is ridiculously high quality which is really cool but it doesn’t mean that first generation FPV air unit and Vista is not already exceptional compared to analog. analog is still great for many people
i’ve been wondering the same thing nobody has mentioned it in any videos i e watched
@@jwanda10 I’m thinking we’ll see it when we get some O3 air units
@@jwanda10 I'm guessing you have already figured it out but right now it is not backwards compatible. Probably a firmware update in six months...!! Calling it now |:P
Great Video! I truly appreciate the honest review and that you highlight who this might be for.
Thanks for all your time. Nurk keep Rippin
I wish I could buy! No sale until DJI Goggle 2 is backward compatible with DJI Air Unit and Air Unit Lite.
Yes i agree. I have 1 AU and 6 vista's. So i will stay on old V2 if they don't make it comapible with old units.
As a newbie I like how easily it can be flown. I would be interested to know which version the drone is and which headgear you would recommend to use with the drone. Thanks!
great review. been waiting for this from dji, cant wait for the full release!
Excellent, very well presented, very informative and so detailed. I really enjoyed all the details and tips you describe and show in your upload. Top-notch, professional-grade video. Many, many thanks for that!
Hi Nurk, thanks for the info, I leave you a couple of doubts:
- Does this thing record in 10 bit?
- Do the new glasses/system work in 5.8ghz and 2.4ghz, or only in 5.8ghz?
I know this sounds crazy but I'd like to have a drone like this that has a cockpit for a 6 inch figure.
my avata arrives tomorrow excited about a new experience of flying, been flying transitional cameras for about 6 yrs. your video was one of the best
Awesome Nurk! Best review so far!
I was happy to see your content on his FPV . I just picked up this unit and am looking forward to flying today.
Great job on solid review. You hit all my questions and tested it thoroughly. Thanks
Awesome Paul! I've only ever used gps drones, and the Avata has blown my itty bitty mind! I was keen to get the perspective of a true fpv'er so thanks so much for the informative and entertaining review!
I have been flying 5inch fpv drones for about a year and it's been definitely exciting flying them, but sometimes I just want to relax and cruise around and explore surroundings which I feel the AVATA is perfect for.
Truly appreciate your honest review. I've noticed a lot of seasoned youtube FPV flyers crapped on this without even flying it, which makes no sense. Awesome review and keep the great videos coming!
Fantastic video as always, thanks so very much Nurk!!!
Brilliant comprehensive video!
Great video! You provided detailed but quick and helpful information on Avata.
Great coverage bud. Truly well done (as always).
I've been wondering where you've been! Glad to see you are back.
thanks for comparison between the old and new system . that was what i was wanting to know the most!
Best review yet! Very enjoyable. Thank you
Such a good review! i just got the Avata and wow for me so amazing to fly keep the good work
Nurk, great review and production quality. Hope to see you next time you're in CO.
I think what almost every 2nd fpv pilot is waiting for the new goggles to be compatible with the old air units/vistas. The drone itself is a cool little toy, but too expensive for what it offers. In the end you buy a cinewhoop put a naked GoPro on it and you have all what you need for much a lesser price. Great honest review Paul. Cheers! 😊
End of the day the footage you got from that drone is stupendously good especially the near miss shots you seem to take for granted...Impressed.
Good solid review just copped the Avata, new to the FPV world so hyped to get a good knowledge base of this drone!
Good to see you posting again Nurk!
First time watching anything drone related, I’ve never seen or touched one. This one looks amazing! I want one and it looks like this is a great starter-plus unit. Thank you for the in-depth review. 🇺🇸
Awesome info. Very detailed. Your video inspired me to try to get some of the shots with my mini 2.
Best review for this drone by far!
Amazing Review Of The DJI Avata. Well Done Paul! Thank You.
Been waiting patiently! Thanks Nurk.
Great vid drone looks amazing hope to get one soon
Paul what a nice job. As usual the points of view you cover are thoroughly informative. Thanx. You remain a goto opinion. Plus I never have to speed up playback cause you are a consumate story teller, even in your reviews.
it looks amazing, thanks for sharing!
Great video, thanks for your time.
Awesome breakdown , thanks!!
Those creek shots are awesome!
Great flying there man! Have had a mavic pro for 7 years and really thinking about this 1
Great and clear video! Love your opinion as a professional cinewhoop pilot.
I own 5 quads but I will get this one for hikes and vacation. Now I have to bring a separate bag for all the fpv stuff. This system can live in my normal camera bag 😎
Good job mate on a detailed and proper review. It's a good stand out versus all the other clone reviews that have dropped lately. Watch one and you've seen them all.
Great video ! Probably not something for me but I’m sure a lot of folks will absolutely love it . Biggest miss is lack of backwards compatibility with vista and existing air units. I would’ve definitely purchase the goggles if they had backwards compatibility
20:19 that’s nice. I had to buy all that separately. Great video so far. It’s nice to see the limits of what it can do and not put that kinda stress on a first time owner. Thx man.
I think its a good buy for most users. DJI did a good job this time. Been waiting for an FPV drone professional to review this not just content creators who tell you how cool it is and show nice clips. But usability review is very important. The battery life and better penetration I'm jealous of.
Brilliant project Congratulations
For some like me starting this hobby, it's an awsome first buy. Thank you for sharing.
Great review as always!
First video about the Avata that makes me think about having one. Fantastic info.
Great content! Lots of interesting insights! Probably would have bought the package (primarily) for the goggles if they committed to backward compatibility with vista/air units -- the Avata itself seems like it has its applications, especially for letting friends and family get in on the FPV action!
LOVE the video!! super informative and has helped me in my decision on weather or not to purchase the Avata. I am a semi beginner fpv pilot I typically will use my 5in drone to get mountain shots for my videos but have been trying to get a smaller cinewhoop to do more close and personal shots. After watching this video I have decided to go and get the Avata instead of a regular cinewhoop. My main reasons to get this is the fact that I don't have to worry about to many items in my bag. I live in a van and am constantly trying to cut down on what I have as my space is already tiny. This drone seems to be a great option for me as I will be able to pack in all nicely in a drawer and when I am ready to shoot I can just throw a battery in and go. With my 5in I have to put on props, battery, gopro, make sure everything is paired correctly, and so on. Hope this helps anyone who read it all lol. Once again thank you for the video you definitely got a like and subscribe from me :)
NURRRKK!!!!
So happy to see a new Nurk video pop-up on my feed! Hope you're doing well!
Greate Review! The Jack is used for Audio signal so you can hear the through the drone, and is an amazing feature specially when is far away
That range/penetration is nuts on the new system! I believe the Googles 2 indeed have built-in directional antennas but the FPV Goggles also had patch antennas installed so it was a fair comparison.
Great review Paul. Broke everything down. I agree with your summation. I’ll be honest though I’m more looking forward to new air units and what they can bring.
Excellent review. finally someone who talks about the new video system and... penetration?...wow
Great review! I ripped 5 bats yesterday when it arrived and I'm headed to the woods now to really see what its got. Thanks for the vid!
Great demonstration enjoyed every minute
Great info, I’m ordering mine today. Thanks for the video
Nice to have you back nurk
Good video brother...cool to see how far the video transmission goes...would love it on my Wings
This was a great demo. This drone looks awesome. Thanks
