For anyone wondering, the easiest way to switch between object and edit mode is just to press tab
What if you are using a laptop not a pc?
Your Laptop should have a Tab Key. Havent seen one without it till now@@DRK444VT
@@DRK444VT it should still have a tab key I would assume, otherwise just switch in the dropdown menu ig
i have NEVER made a 3d model before, but i decided i wanted to try and make my fursona for vrchat, and this video has been so so so helpful so far!!! ive never even touched blender before today, and your tutorial has helped me so incredibly much
thank you for watching and supporting the series :D glad it helped!!
This is INFINITELY less confusing than the actual official blender tutorials. Thank you!
I'd like to take a moment to thank you for the content that you put out in this series of tutorials.
Thank you for deciding to do this at all, never mind version 2.
Thank You for taking your time at the start of the series.
Thank you for not speeding through things.
Thank you for explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it.
Thank you for not editing your mistakes.
And especially,
Thank you for showing how you fixed them.
Your teaching skills are a serious talent..
And this comes from a fella who doesn't know Chibi from Chips :)
When I'd set out for character creation tuorials on CZcams,
it was warriors and monsters and deadpool and blabla.
Your style of art and method of teaching will help me make something "cool" for my daughter.
aww that is so sweet! i hope your daughter enjoys what you make for her!! thank you for the support on this series!!!
One useful tip for scaling things when first roughing out the shape, is to press "s" to scale then "Shift+Y" which will scale in every direction except Y, therefore changing the size without having to rotate the selection to an axis first :)
ooh nice :D
thanks for the tip

and so it begins, the road to blender chan
\o/
@@RainhetChaneru i love that there is a translate option for your msg and it just gives \o/ a bigger head \O/ (great video!!!!)
came back to blender literally today after brief burnout but didn't know what to do
nicely timed!
:D do your best
I took extensive notes on your last class, watched it through 2 times a couple years ago! Very excited to follow this new one! thank you for taking the time to make these Rain!
Thank you so much
amazing tutorial round 2 lets gooooo!!! Thank you so much, Rain!! I appreciate all the hard work and time you put into these tutorials!
You got this!
Your videos are so special and well made, love watching them, much more fun than any other tutorials! 🦌
thankyouuuuu :D i'm glad you think so!
I think I'm actually learning! Thank you!
I have watched the video until 39:37 and the model is looking good! I just hope I didn't do anything wrong on accident tho while trying to get it to match the reference almost perfectly on the side-view (the butt was a pain in the ass to get right).
UPDATE: I messed up, spent some time fixing it, then realized I had messed up AGAIN and spent a little more time fixing it again.
I forgot to turn on X-RAY and the alignment was all over the place.
Hey, you created an update! Thank you so much! There’s so much to blender that having people like you helping us noobies out is GREATLY appreciated🙏
Happy to help!
Yay so excited for this series, love your tutorials Rainhet 💜💜💜!!!
thank youuuuuuuu
When using the loop or switching to other different modes like square and circle for selecting the vertices, it's bit more easier to hit "W" key shortcut to switch those modes between in middle of flow instead of right clicking to open that window and click one you want to use. I know i'm too late to comment on this but better than nothing :)
you're a real one for this, thanks
Thank you so much for showing and explaining this! I have been wanting to get into blender for 3d avatars for years, so thank you again, it was very interesting and I learned so much :3
I love your tutorial! Believe it or not but I actually enjoy listening to all the videos while I'm working ! It's very relaxing ❤
Your the absolute greatest of all time this was a life saver you go at such a consistent steady pace and explain things better than others
thank you ^^ i'm glad you t hink so!!
Finally getting around to watching this updated tutorial, and wow, I've learnt a bunch more stuff already, thank you so much! God I wish I knew about mark sharp before, it's soo useful!!
luluu cutie \o/ glad you're finding this usefulll \o/
i cannot thank you enough for this tut i made the body completely after a few long hours of uh oh what did i do, i messed up on the collar bone a little but its decent enough for my first body but tbh it looks really good especially for my first time TYSM
yayy I was hoping you'd do another one, I'll probably check this out on the weekend
:D nicee
Thank you for your lovely tutorials :)
I'm so glad!
Me at 39:07 : Man, that was a bit of a challenge, but look how good it looks :D
Me at 41:32 : ...I have so much to learn :O
Wow, this is a hella different start to making the body compared to your previous tutorial set. Gonna have to study up again.
This has been incredibly helpful!
It was like 18h but managged to do something for the second try. Thank You!
Your voice is so calming
I wish you the best with this new master class
tbankyou!
after redoing the body 3 times, I finally got it lol
27:56 just a time stamp for me.
Thank you for making this!!!
Remarkably useful, thanks so much.
hell yea! 16 hours later and im done with part one lmao. restarted once do to some mistakes but iv learned a lot and dont regret it at all. time for part 2
so awesome!! this is the first full body I ever tried making, thank you. though I have learned today that I really do not like working with the subdivision modifier 😅
you know it took me a while to notice. there is a weird bug in 3.3.1 regarding the knife tool. i typically use 2.93 and it's a lot less confusing to work with. unfortunately people don't like working with older versions of blender that much
I have trouble following tutorials sometimes (thanks ADHD!) but this one I'm actually able to follow. Thank you so much.
ps. you have a really adorable laugh. :D
thank you sensei
Tip: when using the knife if you hold shift on a line if will put the new verticy in the middle of the line
oh no! i'm partway to your old tutorial series. now I have to start over!!!!
you don't have to stat over if you don't wanna
@@RainhetChaneru maybe I'll finish for good practice. By the time I'm done with the one on working on you might be done with this new series.
12:53
right after a sped up section: "that was a lot of information in a short amount of time, I hope you managed to keep up" XD
I just about died of laughter there.
nice, now i can make myself a body
I swear you're a witch because I messed this up at so many points but it still looks like a person, thank you I feel like I've learned a lot. I don't know how I found your tutorial out of the others but hell was it good.
ahh thank youuu
45:16 how are you getting your knife tool to make cuts like this? mine doesn't do that, but it seems like your knife tool snaps into place?
When you said "Don't over do it" on the butt but then said "Or maybe you do" and I like batted my eyes as someone who gives my character designs big butts and had friend comment "damn you gave your character design a BBL" xD
Question. How do you make the initial cubes origin point 0,0,0 and make it stay there regardless of transformations done to the cube and also make it so that transformations done aren't effected by the orientation of the origin? Your cube seems to by default just have it's origin stay there and it's not really explained how you got it to do that from the start.
EDIT: Ok, figured it out after more experimentation than should have been necessary. So, if you don't move the cubes position in object mode the cubes origin point will stay where it spawned into the scene, in this case at 0,0,0. Problem solved for anyone else having this issue.
Sorry you can do a really great video but your voice is so calm and cute that I almost fell asleep and couldn't really pay attention, this is an asmr to me
i'm sorry but also thank you haha
Are we able to make the limbs through separate models and not do it all from one single cube? Might be easier that way to ensure body parts in vrchat are able to move with your avatar
I'm not sure I understand what the creases do, I mean I can SEE what it's doing, are those just a label of sorts to inform the subdivision modifier to treat that region differently?
What have I done wrong I have a basic floor grid displayed however there are no subdivisions visible when I zoom in, there is also no grid displaying on the z or x axis’s …just the floor. I have viewed the settings and it does show 10 subdivisions but the subdivision button is greyed out even though I can change the value
1:08:00 ish when we do the edge crease sharpen, it didnt work for me :(, i followed the mesh> normals> stuff but its still not working for me
also, if anyone is having trouble with edge crease on collar bones not really working (it was like it was separted and a part of the edge was lifting off)
what i did to fix it: select the edge of collar bones that dont have crease (crease is purple), turn that edge into a crease and delete the original crease, repeat for other parts if needed.
it worked for me, i hope its helpful to someone (sry my english is bad)
Cool shit!
is it just me who cannot add the subdivision surface? i go in object mode i click on the body i click the subdivision and the body dissapears pls can someone help me out i cant lose this when i got this far
I always think of you and how like I wonder if you improved and made a tutorial series again
im stuck ;^; my thing wont make a loop cut in the armpit area like 18:39, i dont know whats wrong
new comment on an older video, but i noticed if your lines arent aligned, s+x+0 fixes it instead of having to pull them together another way :) this probably isnt a good way to do it because im still new and theres probably some better way, but i learned on accident x)
Hello, is there a place I can look over the models at 39:34 without trying to jump around the video to reference the topography? Like an image of each angle or something. I originally made a model using your tutorials + a few others' tutorials without care for topography and while it looked neat, the topography was a mess. So I'm making a 2nd attempt where I care more about the topography and the model I'm making is aiming for more semi-realistic than cartoony in stylization, and having a reference I could look at outside of a video would be wonderful. Because I'm finding skipping through that section of the video to see how you handled more detailed models at certain angles to be a bit of a pain since it pulls me out of my focus on blender and I end up 'wandering off' to other videos unrelated to my project. :(
the blender files for every episode are on my patreon :)
totallly new to trying to make my own avatar so wanted to try it. i tend to get really confused when i am not told why we are doing what we are doing. trying to set up the reference sheet i was not understanding why i was duplicating it and moving it around. i was not getting it in the same spot as you trying to follow along. i think i will try again another day since i am already lost. thank you for doing these though. i can tell its just me not understanding and not your teaching
well the idea is you use either my reference sheet or your own and we make topology that can fit any body type. you just model along with me is all. nothing special. everything we do is to make the modeling process smoother. i think there is a point of explaining things that seem self explainatory. ther reference sheet is for reference. we move it to a spot we want to model in.
Whenever I move a line, it will move however there's a copy of the original line in the original spot. I don't know what I did wrong. :C
everyone: yes yes, good topology *pinky lift*
me: trying to defend my very very bad topology
my mark sharp doesnt seem to do anything idk why
idk what im doing wrong?
czcams.com/video/QattTKbHR0M/video.html fix here
At time of 10:10 "If you can't see it this is probably collapsed." Me: "Nope... can't find.." 5 min later finds out somehow in 'Object mode' not 'Edit mode'
though there isnt an answer to every potential problem that someone can come across, this is a very nice video, and having opened and closed Blender 30~40 times in the last 8 years, this series has made it quite easy to understand (provided i open my eyes lol) Thanks for the tutorial, i'll be going through this one from start to finish rigging and then make my own and finish the whole series out with my first Personal Avatar =)
maybe you hid it on accident
The first half was very helpful, then by the time you get to shaping it felt like you just started working and not really explaining as well what you're doing. I have no idea what Shift-E does or how you started using it to shape out areas.
Wait, how did you know that I was going to start modeling again now that the ground is covered in white crap and life got depressing?
This came like a commission on time.
i'll beat up all the depression
question: Why quads and not tris?
the refference link no longer works, or is just no0t working for me?
x.com/Rainhet_/status/1650063573052186627 new link
Thx u for this video, this is going to sound rude af and apologize but I need to say this. You voice is just way too sweet and innocent for that avatar you are wearing. Again, I know it sound rude and I do apologize.
Does anyone have a place where I can download the reference photo? (the link no longer works)
Quite a late reply, but leaving this here in case anyone else is having the same issue. If a discord attachment link leads to content that is no longer available, you can paste that link into any discord text channel to create a new working link to the missing content.
@@viytzkiYT thank you! That helps a lot!
I got a question, does this tutorial apply for vr chat avatars too?
yes
@@RainhetChaneru Thank you very much :)
and thanks for this tutorial it's really some work but when you finish the model is rewarding.
why does my model look fine until I shade smooth? I get some weird distortions in the mesh that I can't explain :(((
ok, I think I fixed it. now I'm just struggling with the bellybutton LOL
Will this replace the vrchat avatar class
i'm not gonna delete it if that's what you're asking :0
@@RainhetChaneru I'd like it if we could get a crash course on men. And if you don't want that, then at least do men hair. I have trouble with men hair.
@@Insanity554 men are just girls with flatter chest and less hippy. male hair? hmmmm mayb, we'll see ^^
Consider this a reply to the other video (I started/didnt wait)! Thank you for the motivation
Hope you enjoyed it!
I’m confused how do you delete the camera? How do you delete anything?😭
the delete button
Wait, what if the reference is your own body? Then you will live forever young as a clone in VRChat? =^_^=
sounds good to me
Ok, this is the first time I open blender, is this series good for learning how to make ANY model or is this more specific like "Making Chibi Models"?
I suppose it's not for complete beginners because you use terms like "topology" and don't go in detail about it, so it must be for people familiar with modeling?
I'm not saying I can't follow along, I can.
I just want to know if you think I should be watching this with at least _some_ base knowledge that you'd assume other viewers have.
umm i mean i'd say it's good for learning avatar making of any humanoid type. up to you if you want to follow along or not. i aimed it towards beginners. you can always google what topology is if you want
putting my timestamps here for later
Greatr but how did you even add in the ref image??? -w-
Instructions unclear when do i add the eggs Rain Sensei.
you are the egg
Nah bro whoever made blender is a monster this software is so confusing 🙃🙃🙃
it's definirely confusing the first time. but the more you use it, the easier it gets.
She makes it look way more difficult than it is.
This is so hard. I'm so bad at this.
My phone just broke oops, dunno when the next ep is

I get weird shadows when smoothing I did follow your tutorial but used an image of my character as a reference and I don't know how to fix this
my edges aren't dissolving I did everything right
i promise you didn't do everything right. but i can't help you cus i don't know your specific, problem, maybe it's an ngon, maybe it's something to do with a mirror modifier, maybe you have doubles. i don't know..
you can speed up the video 2 times and she still speak normal speed wtf xD
Me: doing this in a call.
Friend: "Oh look its a block"
Me: " You're a block"
Friend: "No you're a block"
Me: "No you're a block-"
and we are still doing it.
Anyone else working on the collarbone, only to look around the model and see the ass is missing? Just me? Ight.
can i get some bully- i mean bully- i mean help
I can't learn I'm to distracted by this loli
are you demonic?!?!?! 😧
why is it that every single tutorial is either really based, but in japanese, or in english but yall are making ugly chibis?
wtf lol
Draw us a better chibi to use as a reference. Problem solved : D

Hello, subdivision-modifier questioning dummy here.
First of: Thank you very much for the great tutorial!
I just started off yesterday and I am already super happy with how far I have come thanks to your guide!
Secondly: I have been working with the subdivision modifier on for a while now, and I am currently at my characters feet.
He has three toes, so it's a bit different than your tutorial chan. And while completely butchering the geometry down there,
I noticed how different my original mesh looks from the post subdivision modifier version, and that I had already made some clipping errors down there.
Do you have a way of keeping track of the original geometry without turning the modifier off?
Or do you just work with the modifier on all the time, trusting in your clean workflow?
I am currently thinking about working with the modifier turned off for as long as I can to make sure I dont mess stuff up.
Thanks again, this really motivates me to keep on going and finally have a 3D version of my character that I can even embody in VR and onstream!
it's just a part of modelling. i advise if you want 2 different models. apply the subdiv then decimate with unsubdividing 2 x it'll keep the general shape of the subdiv version just with less lines.
@@RainhetChaneru Ok, thanks, that will come in handy! So far I sticked to your workflow and just switched back once to solve the weirdest clippings. Didn't realize you can actually apply the modifier until rewatching your head tutorial a couple times. 😂
