  • Rain sensei here, ask me as many questions as you need, we’re making a head out of a cube.
btw that cube was 2m by 2m I had a slip up don't fight me.
    I'm using blender 2.9
I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of people who get perfect circles and start pulling here and pushing there, and in no time they’ve got a pretty face. That’s sculpting, if you want an avatar from a sculpt, you’re going to have to spend a lot of time retopologising.
You’re going to save yourself a lot of hours of hassle if you start with the final mesh itself. We’re not going to do any sculpting, in that sense. However the sculpting tools will come in handy eventually.

14:09 Advice for anyone who finds it difficult to model on only the right side with mirroring: There is an upside down triangle with squares at the corners that lets you make edits to either side and does not restrict you to a single side --- I find it easier to flip flop between sides as I go. (If anyone would like to know, this button appears on many modifiers [eg. Subsurf] and is called "Show On Cage") Also this is a good tutorial

I am planning to make my friend a model for VR chat and this process took you through each step and explained in a simple manner (But didn't go into detail about every signal button) and was easy to follow and understand, nothing was really confusing (I got confused at one part about the ear but that's because of my perception of what it looked like at first before you rotated the model and I understood but that was one me.) I learned about the different keys, what they do, and how to make vertices and subdivided surfaces. This was very helpful to start learning about all those fun surfaces and how to model first from a cube. Thank you so much, I bet this helped so many people, including myself.

I have zero 3d modelling experience at all (besides doing about a third of the infamous blender donut tutorial 😅) and this tutorial has been so easy to follow that I've been able to keep up more or less exactly so far. Seriously, it's super convenient the way you've made these that a complete newb like me can get the hang of things from scratch. There's a lot of guides that assume you at least know the basics or just show what's being done without really explaining anything, which is fine once you're a bit more familiar but I'm not at that stage yet. This guide assumes I know literally nothing, which I did, so perfect haha.
Also the onscreen key presses are super useful while I'm still learning all the key binds.

So I'm completely new to blender and by far, this was the easiest thing I have ever seen, and I was on youtube for maybe 2 hours watching videos that made no sense, and would already have a full base made, and would just explain hair modeling and not actually explain how to do it. So thank you so much!!!
Edit:P.S if anyone is confused at the 9:33 part where she is saying use your "select" tool, (like I was for a few hours 😂) she is referring to the scaling tool. Hope this helps :)

I know this comment probably won't be seen, but I want to say thanks for explaining the design process. There aren't a lot of things I need to correct while designing this and the changes I want to make are easy. Even if I make a mistake, it's often something like not having proportional editing on, and I can just ctrl+z it and retry. This tutorial is easy to follow and I 100% love it!

When I press G in edit mode it doesn't really grab it. It moves everything..I'm probably doing something wrong so if someone can help that would be greatly appreciated. 5:56

It sounds like you need to scale down your 'editing circle' as she calls it by your timestamp. If you dont see it, then zoom out until it appears. It's probably really big. But if you get it small enough you can grab like it's shown in the video

Finally, I can start learning blender! I never liked the older blender tutorials since they were way too fast or didn't really correspond with what I wanted. I rly loved the tutorial. I never knew I could learn so much in 30 minutes..
