Imho Kenshiro have done more badass things, because in Hokuto no Ken nobody fucks about realism he can crush any buildings bare hand and do every shit he wants. Even control enemies mind by hitting secret spots of human body with secret Hokuto Shin Ken techniques. Imho, Berserk is better than Hokuto no Ken, but Kenshiro is more badass than Guts.
Why are we comparing two different genres in the first place? Hokuto no Ken was like the progenitor of the Shounen genre, right? So why would we compare its protagonist to a Seinen protagonist in the first place?

I love that Casca's Cuts all go for the seams of the armor as she isnt super powerful like guts. Add to the realism. Guts is the only one who can cut through armor.
And even then he isn't cutting. He is literally crushing his opponents with his massive sword. It just so happens that his club has enough of an edge to focus the force like a wedge. I really liked that attention to detail and it actually adds a reason for why Guts uses such a ridicules weapon.
With 300+ pounds of a blade, dull or not, being swung at the velocity of a regular sword or even faster; it can literally slice through any armor they wore on the battlefield
@@grantpflum6844 While it does go through armor it doesn't really bisect people like the Dragonslayer does, it always stops at the middle of their torso in a very brutal looking way which i really like. One of the pet peeves i have with the movies is that it has torsos just flying left and right even when he uses it with just one hand, it doesn't feel as impactful and obscures why the change to the Dragonslayer was so important.

bleach and Naruto can have there mountain toppling attacks and Goku can flex so hard that the fabric of space and time implodes on it self. but none of them are nearly as bad ass as this dude.
What makes guts such an amazing character is the fact that he is a deeply introspective person despite his violent nature, he is constantly questioning his motivation for fighting even when in the middle of a do or die battle. He's constantly trying to change and become better, learning to be more than just a sword
hello 3 year old comment I'd still like to add: he also regrets killing the son of the lord he had to assassinate but it doesn't get blown out of proportion like in other anime where 1: the main character is such a shining knight he wouldn't have done it no matter the cost and 2: the main protagonist would grief about it for the rest of the story at any possible time it's a big deal for guts but he's not the type of character to be crushed by guilt

To be fair, those spots are critical hit spots on the human body. The wrist, armpit, etc. contain major arteries. When sliced open with a sword, you would feel immense pain and the blood loss is so quick you'd likely bleed out before you ever had a chance to recover.

It isn't so depressing as you make it sound with those quotes. Miura truly enjoyed his work and said that if he didn't think everything about manga was fun, then he wouldn't have worked on Berserk for 30+ years. Also, I'm dubious that those quotes are completely accurate as you can't always get the exact intention when you translate Japanese into English. Miura-sensei was overall a happy man, so there's no need to feel sad as though he lived a miserable life 🙂
@@Pork_Chop007 Keywords, small glimpse. I don't think what happened to him was anything so dramatic as he worked himself to death. We don't know yet whether what happened to his heart was sudden or if he knew ahead of time, but I think he was an exception to the usual rule of mangaka living terrible lives. We should all be aware of how awful the manga and anime industries most certainly are, but it seems like overall Miura enjoyed his work and took his time to make sure his art was to his satisfaction before publishing, thus the hiatuses. He didn't let his editors rule his work. One of his big hiatuses was due to the work on Berserk transitioning to digital and he had to learn the new system. That was around volume 38.
Before reading and watching Berserk I thought Guts was a stereotypical brute force character. He just swings his sword and everyone dies, and he says a cool phrase and thats it. But then I watched the anime and got some berserk books. The way he does it is unlike any other. This is not simple sword swinging. This is the best fighting japanese story ever told.

Really only guts weapon has 100000% Armour penetration. you do see casca do a few grapples. at around 1:20 she grapples and cuts at the weak. a couple times guts does do some decapitations that could of been legit. but most of the time guts raw power seems to just be the key.
TheSuperverto Guts stated his blade was kinda blunt. So it's like a slab of steel instead of a sword. With enough strength it would crush armor and the dude inside. The anime just didn't portray it right.
the sword its so heavy that applies blunt damage and blunt damage is well known for its efficacy against armors because the force goes through, you wouldnt like to be hit by a warrior who has a two-handed sword and berserker-like strength even if you had full armor haha
I've seen my fair share of anime, read some mangas, played a lot of video games, read many books, comics, watched a lot of american tv, and hundreds of movies. Considering his entire backstory, everything he's gone through, and all the insane shit he's done, including killing gods and demons, there is no question in my mind. Guts is the most hardcore and badass character I have ever come across.
I never appreciated exactly the kind of hardcore Guts was until i found out about The Idea of Evil, and what the afterlife has in store for him. It's one thing to fight against god himself when he is evil, but to not go mad at the thought of knowing that no matter how hard you struggle and push against destiny, you *will* suffer for eternity and there is nothing you can do about it. The fact that he hasn't lost the plot, knowing his and everyone elses souls are booked for hell makes me wonder how he can even move, with his planet sized balls weighing him down.
The closest character I can think of. Is doomguy. Or the doom slayer. Considering what demons did to their families and friends. And how both guts and the doom slayer. Kill demons on a daily basis.
But. The doom slayer was eventually blessed by the seraphim. So he'd never run out of stamina. The most help guts ever got. Was slight assistance in battle. Being given a place to sleep. And that tattoo. To make his brand hurt less.

I also will never understand why they STOPPED using arrows. Against a guy like Guts, after he kills your first 15 guys you send in just enough to hold him in place while the rest rain fire from range. You DON'T get into the insta kill range and try and prove your metal.
In a game similar to Dark Souls called Dragons Dogma, you can wield Gut's thousandlimbs sword and wear his armor. A set of armor called the White Hawk armor resembles Griffith's. There is also a character named Mercedes in that game that has a similar appearance and personality to Casca.
So you think the constant repeated frames and still shots look better than dynamic CGI with proper, varied texture and animation? Also better music, albeit very barely.
yeah i'll take this exact animation style over the sloppily executed.. slow.. stupidly rounded textures that is Cell shading... the Movie versions did it right in that they had a great blend of CG and 2D animation that actually looked fucking badass. The problem most have with the Cell shading only version is that the detail just simply isn't there. Look at the MAnga and look at this.. then look at the Cell shading which looks like Kiddy grade art in comparison.
I love how guts is able to defeat so many soldiers purely because his sword is so massive that he can tear men apart before they even have a chance to attack him
Miura was the living embodiment of Guts. Doing everything he could for his dream/passion. However, the same dream was burning him out taking away moments of his life, he could be enjoying with his family. But that man didn't give up. He was no different from Guts fighting 100 soldiers but for 30+ years eating away his mind and time. Everytime I feel overworked, I come back and watch this video or at least listen to it. Miura-san you died a legend.

This is often cited as one of Guts's best feats. He did this unprepared with a way weaker weapon than the Dragon Slayer whilst protecting Casca when he was a freaking teenager. And no Berserker armor. He wouldn't even break a sweat taking out a 100 men currently. He could probably take 100 apostles.
No, no. His Golden Age sword is not weaker than the dragonslayer. If anything its way better in this situation^ than the Dragonslayer would be, because its lighter. It's just that the Dragonslayer needs to be big to kill apostles. I agree with the rest though.

But Guts gets so big, heavy and strong that he uses it like a normal greatsword (its even stated at points that he doesn't lose anywhere near the speed that he should) and against a mob of mooks like this he would just slash it around taking out half a dozen pretty effortlessly. His size and armor would stop any arrows and no-one with half a brain would even try to get past his strike range. The dragon slayer is so heavy with so much inertia that it never gets stuck or really even slow down; it would be a different looking fight but I doubt he would even take a single hit.

In reality a 6ft+ sword would be basically useless for anyone less than about 8 foot tall as it would just get stuck in the ground and have an enormous gap where guarding and defending would be impossible. One of the pet peeves i have with the movies is that it has torsos just flying left and right even when he uses it with just one hand, it doesn't feel as impactful and obscures why the change to the Dragonslayer was so important.
@@c.galindo9639 His sword here doesn't weigh 300 lbs. Even if it's three times as heavy as a huge greatsword, then it weighs closer to 30 lbs. Which make no mistake, is still a massive hunk of metal to swing around. But it isn't the Dragonslayer blade.

What makes guts such an amazing character is the fact that he is a deeply introspective person despite his violent nature, he is constantly questioning his motivation for fighting even when in the middle of a do or die battle. He's constantly trying to change and become better, learning to be more than just a sword
hello 3 year old comment I'd still like to add: he also regrets killing the son of the lord he had to assassinate but it doesn't get blown out of proportion like in other anime where 1: the main character is such a shining knight he wouldn't have done it no matter the cost and 2: the main protagonist would grief about it for the rest of the story at any possible time
it's a big deal for guts but he's not the type of character to be crushed by guilt

Miura truly enjoyed his work and said that if he didn't think everything about manga was fun, then he wouldn't have worked on Berserk for 30+ years. Also, I'm dubious that those quotes are completely accurate as you can't always get the exact intention when you translate Japanese into English. Miura-sensei was overall a happy man, so there's no need to feel sad as though he lived a miserable life 🙂

We don't know yet whether what happened to his heart was sudden or if he knew ahead of time, but I think he was an exception to the usual rule of mangaka living terrible lives. We should all be aware of how awful the manga and anime industries most certainly are, but it seems like overall Miura enjoyed his work and took his time to make sure his art was to his satisfaction before publishing, thus the hiatuses. He didn't let his editors rule his work. One of his big hiatuses was due to the work on Berserk transitioning to digital and he had to learn the new system. That was around volume 38.

Before reading and watching Berserk I thought Guts was a stereotypical brute force character. He just swings his sword and everyone dies, and he says a cool phrase and thats it. But then I watched the anime and got some berserk books.
The way he does it is unlike any other. This is not simple sword swinging. This is the best fighting japanese story ever told.
And then they fucked it up by making murdering everyone and turning Griffith into a demonic monster and bringing magical shit in.

Really only guts weapon has 100000% Armour penetration. you do see casca do a few grapples. at around 1:20 she grapples and cuts at the weak. a couple times guts does do some decapitations that could of been legit. but most of the time guts raw power seems to just be the key.

TheSuperverto Guts stated his blade was kinda blunt. So it's like a slab of steel instead of a sword. With enough strength it would crush armor and the dude inside. The anime just didn't portray it right.
the sword its so heavy that applies blunt damage and blunt damage is well known for its efficacy against armors because the force goes through, you wouldnt like to be hit by a warrior who has a two-handed sword and berserker-like strength even if you had full armor haha
I've seen my fair share of anime, read some mangas, played a lot of video games, read many books, comics, watched a lot of american tv, and hundreds of movies. Considering his entire backstory, everything he's gone through, and all the insane shit he's done, including killing gods and demons, there is no question in my mind. Guts is the most hardcore and badass character I have ever come across.
I never appreciated exactly the kind of hardcore Guts was until i found out about The Idea of Evil, and what the afterlife has in store for him. It's one thing to fight against god himself when he is evil, but to not go mad at the thought of knowing that no matter how hard you struggle and push against destiny, you *will* suffer for eternity and there is nothing you can do about it. The fact that he hasn't lost the plot, knowing his and everyone elses souls are booked for hell makes me wonder how he can even move, with his planet sized balls weighing him down.
The closest character I can think of. Is doomguy. Or the doom slayer. Considering what demons did to their families and friends. And how both guts and the doom slayer. Kill demons on a daily basis.
But. The doom slayer was eventually blessed by the seraphim. So he'd never run out of stamina. The most help guts ever got. Was slight assistance in battle. Being given a place to sleep. And that tattoo. To make his brand hurt less.
He chopped his arm off with a broken longsword to keep on fighting... No more needs to be said lol

yeah i'll take this exact animation style over the sloppily executed.. slow.. stupidly rounded textures that is Cell shading... the Movie versions did it right in that they had a great blend of CG and 2D animation that actually looked fucking badass. Look at the MAnga and look at this.. then look at the Cell shading which looks like Kiddy grade art in comparison.

However, the same dream was burning him out taking away moments of his life, he could be enjoying with his family. But that man didn't give up. He was no different from Guts fighting 100 soldiers but for 30+ years eating away his mind and time. Everytime I feel overworked, I come back and watch this video or at least listen to it. Miura-san you died a legend.

This is often cited as one of Guts's best feats. He did this unprepared with a way weaker weapon than the Dragon Slayer whilst protecting Casca when he was a freaking teenager. And no Berserker armor. He wouldn't even break a sweat taking out a 100 men currently. He could probably take 100 apostles.
No, no. His Golden Age sword is not weaker than the dragonslayer. If anything its way better in this situation^ than the Dragonslayer would be, because its lighter. It's just that the Dragonslayer needs to be big to kill apostles. I agree with the rest though.
Jiggie Bleu In reality yeah it probably would be a hinderance weighing 100s of kilos minimum. But Guts gets so big, heavy and strong that he uses it like a normal greatsword (its even stated at points that he doesn't lose anywhere near the speed that he should) and against a mob of mooks like this he would just slash it around taking out half a dozen pretty effortlessly. His size and armor would stop any arrows and no-one with half a brain would even try to get past his strike range. The dragon slayer is so heavy with so much inertia that it never gets stuck or really even slow down; it would be a different looking fight but I doubt he would even take a single hit.
+Tentons O'fun Exactly, Guts is stronger after the eclipse, and can use the dragonslayer about as fast as his former sword. Thus, he can probably swing his former sword way faster. So its not "weaker" than the dragonslayer. If i brought in physics, i could show that its way better, but id prefer to keep physics far away from fantasy.
Jiggie Bleu Haha yeah I think Guts left physics behind some time ago. In reality a 6ft+ sword would be basically useless for anyone less than about 8 foot tall as it would just get stuck in the ground and have an enormous gap where guarding and defending would be impossible. In the forest it would get instantly stuck in a tree too.
Not really 100s of kilos,a sword that big will weigh at least 20 kilos though
