Musically, Shiren says it is neoclassical metal with more complex progressive elements, which is not typical of UM.
Regarding the use of German, Shiren has stated that this song was composed in connection with the previous track on the album, an instrumental piece about "Faust, Part One", and this song was composed in relation to that. This song is believed to be based on a Japanese mystery novel called "黒死館殺人事件"(kokushikan satsujinn jikenn; = The Black Death Mansion Murders Case), which is about Faust and considered one of the three great bizarre books in the history of Japanese mystery novels.
UM is a band with strong symphonic metal elements among melodic speed metal bands. Visually, they also have a strong Gothic element, so it is natural for them to incorporate German themes like in this song.
To be honest, almost no one in Japan understands Christianity, so gothic metal might not be well received (metal itself is not popular, and within that genre, it might be even less popular). However, its visual elements and fragmented themes are sometimes used in creative works.

Unlucky Morpheus is my favorite band from Japan. I have them up there with Band Maid, Nemophila, Lovebites, Babymetal, and Hanabie.
I'd recommend checking out Black Pentagram live next. Their most popular song. And my personal favorite is their live performance of Dignity of Spirit. I think that song is a masterpiece and showcases all of the members skills. Especially Fuki on vocals.

Congrats on finding Unlucky Morpheus-one of the best, most creative bands in the world today. I missed your first reaction to them, but hope you'll do more. They remain independent by choice, in order to retain complete artistic freedom. They started off in 2008, focused on making soundtracks to video games and anime. They went through a lot of different stylistic phases, but the big transformation was when they brought Jill (violin) on board. Like many Japanese bands, they sound incredibly clean and tight live. My top suggestion for a live clip: “Angreifer” czcams.com/video/gGKWgM4IOgc/video.html
Meanwhile, amid the (justified) excitement over the Japanese all-female metal bands, we forget there are plenty of guys who throw down. Shiren, founder and one of the guitarists, also does the growls. Fumiya (Drums) is, as you saw, insane and inexhaustible-one of the best rock drummers in the world. Jinya (G) and Ogawa (B) are top-notch as well. Basically, this band is a technical monster. Fumiya and Ogawa also have interesting, “beast” personae which contrast with the “beauty” of Fuki and Jill. That contrast is a deliberate trope, similar to the “Beauty and the Beast” imagery of many European symphonic metal bands.
Fuki (lead singer) is a legend in Japan, and one of the busiest artists anywhere. She is also lead singer for Doll$boxx, Lightbringer and her own ongoing project, Fuki Commune. Her style is very much in the Japanese classical tradition, with the oversold vibrato and intense high notes. She collaborates with a lot of the top musical talents in Japan. Jill (violin) also has a busy dance card, including collaborations with Fuki and others outside of UM.
Jill is actually my favorite member of Unlucky Morpheus. I consider her the best rock/jazz/metal violinist in the world today, and probably the best since Jean-Luc Ponty. After Shiren (founder, original lead guitarist) started suffering from an injury that limits his playing, they rewrote a lot of his solos for Jill. Hard to think of another violinist who could pull that off. Here are links to instrumentals featuring her in UM’s instrumental project Quadratum:
Cover of van Halen "Eruption" czcams.com/video/eTb0TQtVT6k/video.html
Cover of Malmsteen "Far Beyond the Sun" czcams.com/video/E2hZDzJp9Pc/video.html Cover of Dream Theater, played blindfolded: czcams.com/video/8eZVVtaOBKk/video.html
I saw UM live in London in 2019, when they headlined Metal Matsuri. Great show, and the chemistry between Fuki and Jill was electric.

I think the impression you gave last time seemed to be that you were on the fence about the band, and that maybe why you did not get that many comments. Just ask questions and people or me, will give you answers. Unlucky Morpheus are one of those bands that can be a bit all over the place at times, they have a sound, but not really a style, although they do call themselves technical, melodic, speed metal. But they have done a jazz style, J-pop/rock song, they've done a 20's swing style and a few others, why? Because they can, and they tend to do a lot of because we can.
The only member of the band that has not had any training is the singer, the rest have either been to a music college or University to study music and how to play. Mind you, Fuki (singer) did do a fashion degree, and has qualifications in Japanese to the highest standard.
The thing with Unlucky Morpheus is that they are supposed to be a small band, they never intended to be a biggish band, or to become popular outside Japan. They do everything themselves, they are totally independent, they have their own record label, they do their own management, orginise there own tours. They have played once outside of Japan, in London, and were surprised that people knew who they were, and tickets were being sold on the strength of their name. Basically the band are a group of friends that like to play video games, and play music together, and as long as 2 - 3 hundred people come to see them play live they are happy. And that is something I love about this band, they are just happy being who they are. And that maybe also why their fans don't push them like fans of other bands do.
    Next try [ Official Live Video ] Unlucky Morpheus - 「その魂に安らぎを ~ Dignity of Spirit」 czcams.com/video/x7W9DcUKY_U/video.html

Hiawatha G. already explained pretty much everything it need to be explained about this band. They've been a band for a long time although they only started to really catch people's eyes in 2017 when they released "Black Pentagram".
As for their popularity, for japanese metal standards they're fairly well known, there's a ton of great bands that sadly barely get any recognition. They're not as big as the modern all female japanese bands but they're not that far behind.
Speaking of all female bands, some of the less talked older and very influential bands that you could check:
    Destrose
    Doll$boxx
Gacharic Spin (this one still going today)

Not all fanbases come storming in shouting how their favorite band is the best thing since sliced bread ( *cough* acertainwolfpack *cough* ).
I think everything about why Ankimo is great has already been said, but I do certainly admire that they are to this day independent.
As a fan of Yousei Teikoku and DenKare (which actually do have a connection to Unlucky Morpheus) I still do enjoy everything from oldschool Show-Ya to crazy Jiluka including newcomers like Hagane, Lumirise or Paleneo.
If you do enjoy Ankimo though (and good on you) I'd recommend - in no particular order - :
    Unlucky Morpheus themselves
    - Angreifer
    - Black Pentagram
    - Dignity Of Spirit
    - Unknown Child
Quadratum, a subset of Unlucky Morpheus
    - Eruption/The Dance of Eternity cover
Yousei Teikoku (Gothic Metal Band Shiren was a part of until their latest album)
    - Paradiso=Inferno
    - Flamma Idola
    - Kyuusei Argyros
    - honorable mention to Zetsu, but there is no video on YT, only audio.
DenKare's only Video, which features Shiren on Guitar
    - Detonator
That's already a lot of songs and only the tip of a Fuki/Unlucky Morpheus Iceberg including Light Bringer, Dragon Guardian, Fuki Commune, Galneryus even Fate Gear and many more each with some connection to an Ankimo Bandmember, they were (and are) a busy bunch.

Lives of Black Pentagram and Angrifier are must watches. Unlucky Morpheus deserves more views then they will get. It happens sometimes hell Mary’s Blood was freaking amazing and just don’t get as many views. As for harmonizing guitars, Nemophila is where you need to go. Suggest Adabana or Revive to start with.

@@JammersMetalMischief The thing is Unlucky Morpheus will not give a copyright strike, as long as your reacting to the video's, even the ones they have not released. But upload a song, that not a reaction, to something they have not released as an MV, then they'll hit you.
But you are a reaction channel, if they want to watch the video without the pauses, then they should just watch the original video. A lot of reactors stop video's to comment, if that's what they want to do, then it's fine.
