A few things with Unlucky Morpheus and this live performance: the guy with the red hair doing the harsh vocals (Shiren) is also one of their guitarists; he unfortunately developed tenosynovitis, so it often leaves him unable to hold a guitar for extended periods of time. Sometimes he'll play with the guitar on a stand, and sometimes if it's a song where he would also be doing harsh vocals, he'll opt to do vocals, and have his parts instead covered by the other guitarist Jinya and violinist Jill. If you ever get a chance to check the official music video, you'll see that Jill's violin solo was originally done by Shiren.
Also another dumb fun fact: Shiren is also one of BABYMETAL's original Kami band members.
Unlucky Morpheus is an amazing band with a ton of music to check out.

Finally! Unlucky morpheus is a superband , All members are from different bands ,The male singer is the lead guitarist of UM. Because his hand was injured, some songs were changed to be played by a violinist instead. The violin solo part of this song was originally played by him on the guitar。 by the way , the singer fuki is the legend,She has multiple band projects at the same time, and please do more reaction to this band!👍

It's funny that you mentioned she's doing an arpeggio sweep on a violin because it is . That part on studio version of this song is originally an arpeggio sweep on a guitar played by that red hair screamer (Shiren) , he is also the main composer of this band. Unfortunately he had a condition in his arm (tenosynovitis) which prevents him from holding a guitar for a long period. But apparently that situation doesn't stop him from pouring out his creativity. He rearranged all their songs for live shows in which the violinist (jill) will play his part which making it more awesome. This also allow us to hear more of his vocals . Their newer songs have more of his brutal vocal and also the violin been pushed up higher in the mix.
If you guys wanna hear more of the deuling... operatic-brutal vocals duel and also also guitar-violin solo duel I'd recommend to check out Unlucky Morpheus - Angreifer (Live)

This probably been said before, but Unlucky Morpheus does a lot of touhou (uhhh... like doujin aka fan fiction), where they essentially sing about their favorite video games and anime. "Black Pentagram" is indeed about Attack on Titan. Their track, "Knight of Sword" is about Fate/Stay night, and "Unending Sorceress" (off their latest) is about Ultimacia, the final boss of Final Fantasy VIII, specifically of the theory that Rinoa is actually Ultimacia. They do a lot of non-touhou, as well.
People have already gone over the members, but really, this is all about Fuki and how un-fucking-believably hard-working she is in the Japanese music industry. Her other projects include the now-defunct LIGHTBRINGER (more traditional power metal), the j-pop infused DOLL$BOXX (with the amazing j-pop band Gacharic Spin), Unlucky Morpheus, and Fuki Commune.
If you like anime, and have watched the first season of Demon Hunter, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you check out her cover of the opening song, "Gurenge," from the Shred RACERS special (czcams.com/video/FJFrfT3cD0k/video.html). The band consists of SAKI, guitarist from Mary's Blood and NEMOPHILA (both of which you should DEFINITELY check out), Fuki from Unlucky Morpheus, and Kotono & Ediee motherfuckin' Ironbunny. You will *not* be disappointed, I 100% assure you :)

    @maximushaughton2404 Před 3 lety +13

Unlucky Morpheus were started in 2008 as a side project between Shiren (guitar, growls) and Fuki, when another band they were in finished. It was just the 2 of them for a number of years, with friends joining in when they played live. Slowly over the years they have added members, with the last being Jill (violin) in 2016. All the members were, 1 or 2 still are, in other groups, but most of them now look on Unlucky Morpheus being their main group, they will go and do things with other bands. The band has now become more of a full time project, as they have started to realise that they have become popular overseas, with them playing for the 1st time last year, outside Japan in London at Metal Matsuri with Mary's Blood + 8 other bands.
Shiren used to play the lead guitar on this song, but due to his illness tenosynovitis of the arm, he has a rest on a few of the songs that they do. He doesn't do the harsh vocals in all their songs, although they are starting to do it more, which allows him to step away from the guitar a bit more allowing him to rest more.
Now for some bad news, the lyric translation in the video are off, because translating from Japanese to English can be hard, they should be:
    In the fog of lilac
You saw nightmarish castle many times
Beast with the devil wings roars
to invite you to the hell
I give the death for the living
Revenge to heal my wounds is my wish
    I show you the nightmares,
and "Black Pentagram" that appeared on my forehead
    The time to awake
I will revive and take over your body
It is me in the mirror
She is more beautiful and sinful than anyone
    Your heart sympathizes with me
    Whenever you get fresh blood
I sully innocent people with blood
The hell is full of malice
    I curse on your behalf
Because you and I are blood relatives
    The time to awake
I will revive and use your body
Imprisoned on a top of high tower
    Pretend they didn't see disgrace
    The forgotten soul
    was waiting for this day
I give the death for the living
Revenge to heal my wounds is my wish
    I show you the nightmares,
and "Black Pentagram" that appeared on my forehead
    The time to awake
I will revive and take over your body
    Open the door
I show you marks of the deal with the devil
    My body has been buried
But I will revive and eat your heart
    I will revive and
    take over all of you
We now know these are the lyrics due to Fuki putting out a translation about 2 months ago, and she did write them and sings them, so they must be correct.
But there is some good news on the Attack on Titan front, Jill did a cover of it on Violin czcams.com/video/CiX2OQ0iUrE/video.html&ab_channel=JillviolinChannel
She has also done a cover of Dream Theater's Dance of Eternity, where you'll think a violinist can shred.
Unlucky Morpheus's songs normally are fantasy based, and all the band are gamers. They released a song a few months ago that was based on Final Fantasy 8, called "Unending Sorceress" Shiren is a big fan of the game.
If you want some more info on the band go to r/UnluckyMorpheus
    Next try "Angreifer"

The hard part about translating Japanese to English is that Japanese is such a contextual language as opposed to a literal one like English is, so you could translate something from English to Japanese & back to English & it could give you a slightly different translation but the context is pretty similar, hence why you can see several different translations & they may not necessarily be wrong.

    • @ZAZ555

Just to add on Maximus's points
The song is inspired by 「魔女メディア」(The Witch Medea), A short story by Suzue Miuchi.
Here's the translated post that Fuki talks in about the meaning of the song in: redd.it/ifn6kt

@@TheNightOwl11683 I know it's difficult to translate between the 2 languages, sentence structure is different also, in English we have joining words, word the Japanese do not use. Fuki said it was hard to translate, even though she wrote it and knew what it was supposed to be. When I spoke to ZAZ about it, he said more or less the same as you.
The context of it does change, the translations that people did before, make it sound as if a necromancer is raising the dead, whereas Fuki's is about a spirit/ghost taking over a living body.

      @ZAZ555 Před 3 lety

@@maximushaughton2404 Well, I'm not trying to toot my own horn here or anything, but in my original translation I knew it wasn't about a necromancer. I translated it as a possession story, but I still had some minor errors that I can't possibly know without knowing what the song is based on or what the writer had in mind.
And Fuki took some liberties in the English translation since some lines got cut/simplified.

Thank you Kyle for finally getting MM around to Unlucky Morpheus :-) And great reaction :-)
Unlucky Morpheus are basically a super group - each one highly skilled. It's actually a side project, as most members are in other bands, but fortunately they seem to be becoming more regular. Fuki the lead singer is in about 4 bands (DOLL$BOXX being one of her other projects).
The screamer is Shiren. He used to play guitar most of the time, but unfortunately he now has a medical condition in his hand/arm, so he can't play the guitar as much in their songs, so he took on more vocal duty, and does so daaaamn well.
Unlucky Morpheus are also totes anime/manga fans. They have a song (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!) called Unending Sorceress which is literally about Shiren's love for the Final Fantasy game (Link: czcams.com/video/PCv3s0T4bx0/video.html ).
To understand how genius this band is, check out their song Cadaver Revadac - they first play it forward, then switch the sheet music around and play it backwards (Here's the link with the sheetmusic: czcams.com/video/_yrNRhIreyE/video.html )
The violinist, Jill, she is perfection. Adds a great sound to the mix, and who doesn't love a violin solo??
There are also drummer only vids of some of their songs to geek out on.
Just a great band all round.

At their core, Unlucky Morpheus is a video game cover band focused on the Touhou game franchise. The majority of their discography are Touhou covers, with only the last few albums containing original works as well.
Even their original works have many pop-culture and video game references; on their latest album, one of the songs is about Ultimecia from Final Fantasy VIII, one of the songs is about Nier Automata, one of the songs is about the movie Saw, etc.

    • @robertlawrence2609
      @robertlawrence2609 Před 3 lety +1

They are really big anime fans, as was mentioned. Their song Unending Sorceress is about the Final Fantasy VIII character mentioned. I'm not 100% sure on Black Pentagram, but if it sounds like Attack on Titan references, I'd bet the farm that's exactly what they were going for. Jill, the violinist, has a video cover of herself playing the AOT theme, in cosplay, with Nemu (guitarist from Hollow Mellow) on guitar dressed in a spandex Titan suit. It's a VERY good cover, and the video is funny.
