ECHO FIX TAPE ECHO EF-X2
A classic effect, built for modern users - the EF-X2 couples the sounds you know and love, with features and reliability unimaginable in the past. In designing the EF-X2, the team here at Echo Fix began with the knowledge and insight gained from our work as the world's foremost experts in spare parts, servicing and repairing vintage tape echo units. Put simply, we know how tape echos should sound and operate.
We spent three years prototyping, rigorously testing, and meticulously designing in secret - while accounting for every possible application. We couldn't find a new production motor good enough so we made our own and invested in the latest high tech machinery to custom balance them in house here at Echo Fix. We could not find tape heads that sounded good enough so we had custom tape heads manufactured to our exact specs.
One of the other important things when it comes to reliable tape echo operation is the tape loop. We thoroughly researched tape and have a tape formulation that not only lasts a very long time but sounds incredible as well, that is how far we were willing to go to make the EF-X2 reliable and sound great!
What we have built is a warm sounding tape echo with a modern feature set that is at home in the professional recording studio, live guitar rig, bedroom production setup or in any other context you can dream up, we cannot wait for the EF-X2 to become an integral part of your creative process.

The fact that, in today's world, I can buy a brand new, currently designed tape echo unit is incredible to me. Shoutout to you guys for doing this, it sounds incredible!
nonedescriptivepresence. Thanks :)
*_Great tribute to old Tape Echo !_*

I can't believe this exists! This is incredible! Thank you guys.
Absolutely brilliant, well done on resurrecting a legend
Thanks :))
I just did a 3 day session at A sharp studios and used your ef-x2 and couldn't believe how awesome it is. Awesome I want one. I'm getting one haha. You guys are amazing. Thanks so much for the fun.
I just have to tell my wife haha.
sounds great
just bought a new Echo Fix EF-X2 : ) Welcome to the fold guys
So great
This sounds amazing!
I wish i know about you guys 10 years ago......(long story) I took my RE-201 to a repair shop and they couldnt repair it, before I could pick it up they quit returning all contact and after months of reaching out, they told me they sold it because it sat in the shop to long! I could have gotten the parts from you and done it myself!! 😭
That is heartbreaking. I have dragged my RE-201 all over the world. I run everything through it. I have even used it for track reverb when mixing. I love it.
But now I'm very tempted by these folks' updated version here!
@@g2DN2aTYHzNsVR6o Very cool! It has such a unique vibe, especially when like 6 inches of the tape has a nice stretch in it, creates such a cool texture!
Jacob Blount stretch from wear or manually method?
MAZE LAZER RECORDS it was from wear
That's technically theft? You couldn't have gotten one of these ten years ago; they were just released last year I believe, or 2018 at earliest.
The Spring Sounds Good. Mine is way brighter, what I don’t like so much. Can you say how you make it sound that dark, like heard..? Thank you for the great video!
Have you guys considered making different face panels in different colors for a limited run?
Leonel Hernandez We have 2 x colour options that will be released soon :)
I’m curious, why did you decide on adding DSP reverb instead of a spring tank?
Hey! We decided to go with the DSP reverb as its a much more "usable" reverb for many different styles of music. Also gives you the option to dial in a short, medium or long reverb.
they now have a spring option
wow
Why put a *digital* reverb on such an expensive analog tape delay unit?
Whats the maximum delay time??
how often the tape should be replaced? in case of 1h/day playing for example.
Hey! Depending on humidity the tape loop should last between 100hrs and 300hrs.
How often should the tape in these must be changed? In Europe Thomann sells these units but i didn’t see the tapes ... another question: how often this need a fix/repair if used 8 hours a week in Studio? I won,t tour with them
Seek4Truth Hi, A new tape loop should last between 100 to 300hrs depending on humidity. The unit is user serviceable as well. The replacement rubber roller, felts and a head clean can be easily carried out by the end user. This would not need to be done for at least 2 or 3 years.
@@echofix I live in Finland and we usually buy gear from Thomann because they offer 3 years warranty and free repair etc. I checked and they have your product. But i've seen you offer a version for guitarist that come with a Echoplex preamp. Thomann does not have that version. Can you tell me where I can find that moded version?
Seek4Truth Hi, The units Thomann sell have this upgrade. All EF-X2 units that ship now have this :)
Is it tube and how often to change the tape pls
Hi Mario, No this unit is solid state. The tape should last around 300hrs depending on humidity etc.
I heard this was designed by just one guy; a repairman that was tired of rebuilding RE-201's, is that true?
Hey! It was designed by two people (Shane Fritsch & Doug Ford) and yes the idea came from refurbishing Space Echos over the last 15 years. We still service the vintage units for now but we no longer refurbish them for sale.
Nothing plugged into the output, yet we can still hear it... That's some weird voodoo magic right there! ;-)
Hey Richard, We are using the balanced output at the rear of the unit connected to the balanced in of our recording interface :)
Cool
Does it do reverse echo/delay?
Sounds lovely but the price is beyond my range.
roland RE201 ? very simular
i don't want to hate. sounds really good, but shit is ugly. would issue with a different aesthetic. if you are going to do an homage to space echo, give it some aesthetic nostalgia.
Must be a personal taste thing then because I think the design looks amazing. Still quite retro too.
It looks ok for me...
Lucas Ehster Blue is my favorite color, so it works for me. To be fair though... the RE series from Roland was that ugly ass green, so not sure what you find attractive about that.
Foil printing is a thing these days. Design your own faceplate.
It’s not a clone or reissue of a Space Echo so why should it pay “homage” to it? Do you know how many companies besides Roland have made tape echo units?
