- This is a fun little project I worked on with Gannen and Grem! Thank you all those as well that helps contribute, especially the world creators and avatar makers in the video.
This video covers some specific etiquette that's only relevant to VRChat. I hope its informative for those that watch this.
If you have any questions, you can message me at / vox_draconis
Thank you very much Hiyu for all your hard work on the furality worlds and of course the music you created. The Wandering World (Theme of Furality Luma)

"brb"
*folds into a tangled mess of limbs*
FBT people can for my sake AFK whenever and wherever they want. There is NOTHING more hilarious IMO than seeing some avatar folded like a piece of paper with the arms pointing one way and the legs walking another way breaks me every single time.
same! it's so freaking hilarious lol
I actually use AFK mode specifically to stop the human pretzel look lol
Unfortunately that doesn't work like that anymore. VRC got too smart for it.
I wish VRChat had this kind of tutorial built into the app itself, since these kinds of social interactions are not always second nature to people.
There could be some kind of incentive like if you watch the tutorial and answer some questions, you could knock off an hour of the 'New User' wait time (not 100% necessary, but if uptake is low then that could help).
Admittedly social skills isn't my forte' at *all* but this just sounds like common sense.
You would be amazed at how many people in VRC can forget common sense :)
10% bird
10% dog
10% cat
70% drug effects
Thank you for this, I’m very bad at knowing what’s acceptable and what’s not in social situations because I’m neurodivergent
small side note the portal deal is called portal sniping and its great when you get a friend with it mainly when you send them to a public uganda
Your avatar is very cute. People are dumb for hating on furries.
Yeah omg it's so cute I love it
Fr
It's normal to hate on furries
That "eating down your mic" bit sounds like it would be right in line with "don't talk while eating", which most people should be taught as small children. I don't use VRChat very often, but when I'm in any sort of voice communication I either excuse myself or mute myself if I intend to eat something.
in a way, i'm sorta glad there wasn't as much as i was expecting. I'm really awkward with these things and was expecting stuff like don't approach people already having a conversation, or don't lurk around not saying anything. i find it hard to be good at conversation, especially with new groups so exclusionary stuff like that would have given me way more anxiety about trying to meet new people
3:34 Oh this one I relate to SEVERELY. So many times I've had it where I'm trying to join in on a conversation or just hang out in a group when someone bigger, louder, and more popular than myself just barrels straight through me and stands on top of me, sometimes maliciously, and drowns me out of the conversation. Its one of the reasons I actually dropped VRChat for a long time due to how often I got treated like I wasn't even there.
My vrchat experience is always lonely or full of people that are trolls, I'm lucky to even find something fun in vrchat or find someone who is actually nice on a rare occasion, hopefully my vrchat experience gets better in the future, until then I'll just play secondlife instead UwU
Love the way this whole video was presented! Nice job!
This is such a cute way to showcase all the scenarios of the cases. Love it, thank you for the videoo
I just started playing vr chat like 2 days ago and this video was really helpful and interesting at the same time. Keep up the good work 👍
One more, and I hardly ever see it anymore, but it's been recent enough to mention the red exclamation point, or "possible ban evader"/ "crasher" rank. This one is pretty self-explanatory.
Wonderful and entertaining video of something that we all should know about. Well done, and thank you!
watched it, and loved every second of it! :D
would like to see more of this type of interviews. these would stand out more compared to others such: human VR, AZAZAL, lucid, twice, etc
Amazing video. Your production quality and information was top notch, loved the flow on this!! Had no idea Nuisance rank was a thing lol.
Excellent video! Very good points!
Thank you! this was very helpful ^-^
nice transition from not-so-friendly avatars to orange status! these 2 are connected :D!
i think this needs more views, lots of this is very important.
ive only ever seen a nuisance once
Ill be honest. This video came in my suggested. And im happy i clicked. Also like ur avatar. Its cute.
this is really good advice :p
You've got really nice voice :D i liked your video, well made.
Terminally online behavior lmao. 90% of the community will just scream slurs, delusional nonsense or just start earraping
O, this old Avatar is great!
Legit good video. Nice
Thank you for sharing. Admittedly, i have a hard time with personal space, especially with small avatars as I'm visually impaired and dont always see them. Im very new to the game and will eventually get better with this. But i will make sure to let people in the instance know why i sometimes move so close to them.
10/10 Thanks for the video
As someone who plays once in a while and I give people chances. but if they ruin them I do try to show annoyance to hopefully let them see that I am not happy with em.
But all around I can be a genuinely good person unless people either
A. Immediately give off a bad presentation/introduction to me or my partner
B. Try to get me and my partner in a poly-relationship even though we do not want one,
But all and all I am generally a nice person unless something bad happens and it breaks into abit of an argument if I call someone out to try and get the situation settled. Alot of times the ones in the wrong will deny it and I have to start becoming agressive to the wrong doers to try and de-escalate a situation.
I have also seen a nuisance rank before, they were saying alot of slurs and i saw why they were like that lol. But thank you for making a video like this for new or returning vrchat players! I found this educational and as a good refresher to me since I am a rare Public person, mostly in private hubs/servers
The onetime that I've ran into someone with a nuance rank me and everyone else in that lobby got crashed. Have yet to encounter another person with a nuance rank since then.
I'm at new user with 23 hours pc, probably 10 hours quest and 6 friends. Most of these are pretty much just IRL or voicechat rules that translate decently into vr, and I don't have a good enough PC to render absurd particles so it wasn't that helpful but that's probably just a good sign.
Be aware that there is significant audio latency on the order of 500ms. This causes people to sometimes accidentally cut each other off in conversations. Be aware that they're not trying to be rude on purpose. It's a technical limitation.
wish I saw this like 10 months ago
7:43, what is that ava in the background with those gravity balls? reminds me of glowstringing.
Crap I didn’t even know I’d been doing some of these
Tfw I find an avatar that I like the look of but I can never use it cause when I switch to it or join a new instance it starts blasting XXXTentacion or some shit
8:45 I think that baby needs some milk😂😂
So basically being a decent person.
Yep
honestly i don't mind hearing crunchy food
my friend i would say is big into anime, from what i see
when i played with him for the first time, legit every avatar he had was loud, blinding and laggy af
best believe i changed my shield
With the music thing as someone who plays music through vm, please read the room aswell. most of the time nobody wants to listen to rap/hiphop in the the pug vs the black cat where most dont want to listen to older music and if your playing music amd join a world where someone else is already playing music please pause yours and maybe have a chat with them ive played a game where we played music in turns matching energy its more fun the just competing with who has the louder music, also dont treat people like NPCs. we get it its just game but the people your talking to are real people, think of vrc as more of a social gathering then a game.
I love VRC as there are quite a few interesting people there....however, the ammount of judgemental kids there that have something against us older players are wearing on my thick hide....
Would have stayed in private room though it does get boring when you don't really have any friends on there :p
So, question, if you’re just starting VRChat, does this mean you can’t use an avatar of your own choosing (ie. one you bought, commissioned, or allowed to use a free use)?
Do you get stuck using the default model till you rank up enough to upload an avatar?
Given that you cant upload one, yeah. Unless the artist has a way in game for you to use the avatar you are stuck waiting for your trust level to bump from visitor to new user. Mine switched when I friended someone else. So if you have a few friends in game it shouldn't be that hard to go from visitor to new user and unlock the ability to upload avatars.

Okay, thank you.
Honorable video my tiny furry friend.
🥰
Why does this video have only 21 comments? Let's fix that!
Is your avatar custom made? ITS SOO COOL!
It's called a Rikkor. I made the textures but the rest was made by the creator. Look up forestwind on booth :)
@@voxdraco thanks!
this must be reverse psychology
4:50 dude im new to vrchat, people did that all the time in furry hideout omg 😂
I think if your nuisance rank gets low enough they should just ban that account. Like a three strike deal or something. Just because there are too many worlds for the devs to even attempt to police themselves it would be better if those hit with enough blocks, kicks and mutes were just flat out removed from the game entirely. They aren't there to make friends or contribute to a community. So just remove them entirely and deny them the attention they crave.
Sometimes players can fall into nuisance rank unintentionally. The algorithm isn't always right. There can be circumstances where a lot of people may block an avatar because of some technical problem that player may not even realize or didn't intend, for instance. I've also seen cases where a player just didn't realize what they were doing was inappropriate. Getting the nuisance rank was a wakeup call, and they changed their behavior and eventually were able to regain normal status.
I think the way VRChat handles this is pretty good. When players are griefing intentionally, they will probably stop using that account as soon as it reaches nuisance rank since they won't be able to effectively grief anymore. It has essentially the same effect as a full ban. While people who tripped this unintentionally do have a way to recover.
also what most veteran users dont know also, is there is 3 more ranks past trusted user, Veteran, legendary, mod/dev user
I know about them, but I didn't want to add them since the likelihood of ever seeing them in game is extremely unlikely, this kept it simple.
@VoxDraco ya i know just thought I'd add some lore 🙂
those only exist as legacy ranks in the api and can not be seen in-game anymore
honestly this is just normal etiquette
why can i hide my rank?
Anyone know what the world at 7:58 is?
Fijis starry home
how do i politely reject someone's friend request?
I'd say, deny it then let them know you would want to get to know them first, thats all
if they freak out, probably better they aren't on your friends list
If you don't know someone very well and they just throw you a friend request, you can just tell them exactly that, that you only friend people who you spend a lot of time with. If they get upset about it, the onus is on THEM, not you. More importantly, if they do get stroppy about it, its all the more reason not to add them. A reasonable person should be understanding.
Speaking as someone who still deals with a little bit of social anxiety, I'll sometimes shoot a friend request to someone (usually friend of a friend) without saying much first simply because I was too nervous to actually speak at the time. I'm actually a selective mute in game for that reason lol. But I get it, I often get weary about random friend requests too, but just wanted to point it out
The block button
5:08 💀💀💀💀💀💀
sadly, many of these apply to discord
I had so many people run up to me and cuddle my face. I don't like that but I don't want to be forced to write it into my profile you know? It should be common sense not to be touched randomly.
sadly, some people will instantly block you for being new, which can be pretty disheartening, especially since it can affect your rank and prevent you from uploading stuff
your avatar is the cutest birb!
also, ive literally been sexually harrased in vrchat
i had a lucario avatar and like 3 different people kept chasing after me, they had the voice of an old person and they kept calling me "thick" and saying sexual stuff
and also, i never knew ranks could go down so thanks for the info!
Going to be doing the opposite of everything in this video
Who wouldn't
Ok so use common sense
Got it
As a vr chat player myself, I don’t understand why people get so butthurt about touching their character in a game. I’m not groping your titties, I’m groping this hot anime babe’s titties that is definitely hotter than you. Like, I don’t even know what you look like bro chill out
I thought most of this stuff was common sense.
Mrawr This Fur Speaks the truth
Broo whyyyy
Unfortunately for this video i found it more to be a "tos(terms of agreement) more then anything to vr. Ive spent over 2300+Hours on VrChat, and for some reason over timescale anxiety stopped me from continuing on vrc. but with thiis Video instead of helping me out understanding why I dont dislike it.. it makes me dislike vrc more.
here is another piece for yall. stop using the rex avatar, the creator is a transphobe. stop using 'seperate art from artists' in non-historical contexts that it was never meant for. it's like pedos claiming MAP doesn't mean 'Multi Animator Project'.
yknow u can just not support the rex creator by pirating their avatars right? it literally something u can do if u like the avatar but dont want to support the creator if their bad
