- "Danger" and "Feast On My Heart" performed live by Pylon, circa 1981 at Hitsville in Passaic, New Jersey. This originally aired on a New Jersey based cable TV show, which I think was called "Cable Rock". (If anyone remembers this show, let me know and I'll add it to the description.) In memory of Randy Bewley.
Probably the most underrated rated band in the history of underrated bands.
If I could time travel this is where I would go .
It’s amazing how fresh they are…they would turn my head today just like they did then!
I lived in GA '87-'91 which was basically the tail end of the Athens heyday. As I recall, basically every Athens band at the time regarded Pylon as the best. So true. RIP Randy Bewley.
REM mentioned that when they were inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame. They thought PYLON was the best Athens band.
@@ARISTOILETwas just about to comment on REM. Stipe name-dropped Pylon every chance he got in interviews, which I thought was cool and nice of him/the band.
If I had to choose one band's recordings to take on a deserted 🏝️ it would be Pylon's recordings and albums for sure.❤️❤️❤️

Curtis Crowe-the human metronome! My favorite drummer of all time!
I'm enjoying it. Like the B-52s meet Joy Division. She is a great singer too. Great band.
The drummer, Curtis Crowe, was a machine and the engine that kept it pushing forward.
I was cracking up how he drinks his beer while playing the intro, lol.
Indescribable energy from that guy. Raging ...insert word...almost a violent quality.
Pylon would sell out Friday and Saturday nights at the 688 Club in Atlanta during 1982 and 1983...it was the show of year. The club was packed, and everyone was completely in awe.
Saw them in Trenton at about the same time.
Awesome show. Danced my ass off!
I had the good fortune of attending UGA in Athens 75-80 and saw many a Pylon show, not long after they started playing live. You could see them for $1-$2 range, dollar pitchers of beer, those were the days!!! Even if you didn't know how, you had to dance to Pylon! I still have my 7" and 12" Pylon vinyl, may have to spin it after seeing this....
Nice thanks guys another one bites the dust 😂🙀
This clip is soo GREATTTT....Epitome of them.
The true origin of the Athens music style. That guitar riffing. Gyrating. No rules, but dancable.
I love the drummer rocking out to his own band
He cracks me up drinking his beer while he plays. But his beat is so solid even that doesn't change it.
I saw them twice at the 688 in Atlanta, and once in Athens at I think the 40 watt club. Simply one of the most amazing bands I have ever seen. You walked away from seeing them completely stunned.
I remember back in the 80s hearing about Pylon, probably because of REM. I wanted to hear them, but I had no money and there was no good record store in town anyway, and no amazon, and I didn't know anybody who had any of their records, so I never heard their music. Then I stopped caring about REM, and forgot all about Pylon for decades. Today the band somehow randomly popped into my head, and now there's youtube, so after all these years I can finally hear them. Worth the wait!
Does the super-easy availability of all music to anybody with an internet connection make people value music less? I suspect it does.
This is so tight. Vanessa is a fucking demon and I love her.
I have their albums. It is why I will never not have a record player. Although I lived in Athens in the early '80s, I first heard Pylon years later in a documentary about Athens' music. I immediately searched for and bought their albums. That took a lot of phone calls to make it happen.
This. This is the voice of my people.
Great band, a true inspiration.
Awesome. Pylon.....underrated band of all time. Vanessa!!!!. Thanks for posting....Indebted.
When she sings she exists in that same world Ian Curtis of Joy Division did, its like they are musical twins.
Helen Wilson I just had that very thought this morning watching this vid.
yah, good comparison. 2 of the better post-punk acts.
I love her crazy dancing and her farmgirl dress, lol.
What an awesome, obscure clip of them! Vanessa looks absolutely possessed!
that bass sounds mean !
One of my fave bands! What a energy and creative sounds. Marvellous.
Omg. So amazing.
Once you get into that "Feast on My Heart" you can't turn away. I could also swear that Talking Heads borrowed some of the choreography for their "Life During Wartime" segment on "Stop Making Sense."
Under appreciated
Probably the same day I saw them the first time. Liked them immediately. Last was actually their last performance in New York. End of the tour. A few months later Randy was gone.
ahhh, the absolute joy of music!
Fucking best dancing ever. Front-woman is actually pretty frightening, in a good way.
She's like a minimalist version of Nina Hagen.
absolutely, she is the best ever, it takes real talent to dance on stage like nobody is watching.
WOW just WOW

I remember seeing them in Augusta.New Wave night every Thursday at a disco named New York New York. You could bring your own records and they would play them.
They need a whole show from 1983 or earlier in decent quality to put out on DVD to show the kids what it was about. Maybe make this a bonus clip on it. As with the B's and R.E.M., the early stuff has a certain unsurpassed vitality to it.
The good news is that such a video exists; an entire show from Hurrah in 1981. Hopefully it will be released to the public. Here's a clip from that show: czcams.com/video/EyCWgGhG00o/video.html
Soooo fucking good! I saw them in DC in 1981
SO great! I always wanted to see them back in the day, I'd seen R.E.M. and the B-52's from the Athens crew, but missed Pylon! I did buy their music, and my favorite is Danger. Thanks for posting this
That is it!
That's amazing!
Great, thank you. Classic band.
Thank you for posting this!!
Thanks for posting!
so good
Unbelievable!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
AWESOME
Lead guitar plays like Ricky Wilson of early B52s.
Same scene. Fred Schneider of the B-52s has said that Pylon was the best band in Athens GA (compared to REM and his own band)
@@marksaltveit Pylon came 1st of those 3
@@chipshirley B-52's played their first show 2/14/77, Vanessa joined Pylon 2/14/79, two years later to the day.
@@onehandloose8985 Definitely Ricky licks.
A lost classic.

Probably used the video setup to record a promo video for cheap. Bar gave them a copy.
Don't know about the Joy Division comparison. Other than the fact the bass gets co-star billing, definitely not hearing any similarity. DEVO is more like it; actually, like the love child of DEVO and B52s.
Why no audience? Soundcheck?
doesn't have to be for a soundcheck to play for the cameras; perhaps the company simply requested filming the band without audience distraction, more space & room for crew, multi cameras etc.
I believe the show/channel was called "Cable Rock". They typically aired promo videos, but there were occasional live performances filmed at Hitsville. Medium Medium recalled being filmed there also without an audience.
