A few hours ago, renowned Xbox insider and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden broached the topic once again in the Xbox Two Discord channel, as reported on the ResetEra forum. Corden said that all of the Xbox first-party games will be coming to PlayStation eventually, even the flagship titles like Halo and Forza. He also discussed the future of the ecosystem as more 'Steam-like' in the future, with the ability to side-load PC stores like Steam itself; Microsoft had recently suggested as much. The upside is that prices will be more affordable thanks to sales, and the ecosystem will be more open to developers. Meanwhile, the Xbox hardware will be dedicated to a specific niche.
Corden then took the discourse publicly to Twitter, where he reiterated that 'everything is going (to PlayStation and/or Switch)'. He also again talked about Xbox consoles filling a niche, a bit like the Steam Deck is doing for PC handhelds. - Hry

I was a PCMR guy for most of my life. When I became a responsible adult and was working a ton, I became an Xbox guy for convenience. Now I simply went back home to PC. Lots of my friends are doing the exact same thing

Xbox just gave up competing with Playstation. They needed banger exclusives and not the mid ones. They place bets were their not needed like the publishers they bought, the all entertainment in 1 device but it's a always online drm machine, and games pass. I'm sure Phil Spencer has Microsoft HQ breathing down his neck. Xbox has to recoup that $70B they spent on ABK. With what the division has been bringing in, that would have taken a very long time. The Microsoft board didn't just hand Xbox all that money out of the kindness of their hearts. They expect a return on that investment.

I think GamePass is what will kill Xbox as a console. Having releases day one on subscriptions cheapens them. We see what happened to Disney when they went from king of the box office to struggling. The film industry is backing away from that model big time now. It’s worse for video games since individual games are much more time consuming than movies/shows. What good is a catalogue of over 1,000 when the average consumption is like 2 different games a month. With streaming you can binge a season in under a week so it makes sense to have over 1,000 different programs to choose from.

Comparing it to Disney is a false equivalency though, a lot of Disney’s problem was the decline in quality of their products. The last Disney/Marvel film I saw at the cinema was Quantumania, and while I didn’t hate it, the quality was below what I’d expected and honestly outside of Deadpool and Wolverine it’ll take a lot to get me to go see any of the next batch
Disney isn't struggling because of the subscription service, but because Marvels new Multiverse saga isn't popular as people are fed up with superhero movies.

That’s true but what I really think hurt Xbox the most has been the lack of exclusives. The Xbox one had like two good games, being Sunset Overdrive and Rare Replay. The acquisitions are going to carry Microsoft. Hell, all three of their big games last year, Hi Fi Rush, Redfall, and Starfield were all Zenimax titles, and it definitely did not help that Redfall and Starfield sucked. At least Hi Fi Rush was good. I’m glad PlayStation owners get to experience that game
Asolutely correct, imo! M$ has always had poor hardware support (ZUNE) and an extreme lack of proper project management with regard to game development. So, instead of competing, M$ has now purchased many, many major studios, and shall simply develop and market their games on any available platform. -Going the way of the SEGA Dreamcast. . . . (How ironic for this channel.)

Yes, it was also the technology and internet-related issues but that platform could invest in making exclusives that would attract people to use it. For Xbox, I am happy people on PS can enjoy Xbox titles and PC owners can enjoy both, but eventually those consoles will turn into a literal plastic box. A console is more than a plastic box, so is PC.

I got the PS5 at launch, but I bought a Series X in August 2023, for Starfield. My first Xbox since the 360. I've only played a handful of games on it, just renewed Game pass this month to play Hellblade 2, but I honestly haven't got my moneys worth. I think this week is the first time I turned it on 2024. That's just been my experience, it's a dust collector.

@@ContrastCopytbh halo 4 was pretty underrated. 5 was complete trash, or at least the campaign was. And halo infinite’s campaign was kinda fun…. But really bland and the story didn’t feel like it went anywhere it just set things up for more games.

As a PC gamer I brought a Series X as a "no need to build or setup anything" solution for my TV. and it just works! It was relatively cheap (350 € used with games), it's small, silent, boots really fast ... And I didn't had to build another PC for more money. It just works and the irony is: since I have that little XSX I do play more and tinker less on hardware. To my surprise: most savegames transfer between XBox and PC automatically, also with Ubisoft games even without a subscription.
Consoles are for people who are NOT interested in building anything, comparing any prices, setting up any options ... but to just play.
And the second irony is: as PS4 Pro arrived I thought about buying one. With Ps5 Pro coming I thought about it, too. But the reality today is:
*all Sony games I ever wanted to play are already on PC!* So although I play a lot of games from my pile of shame on XBox (like AC: Origins, Mirage, Subnautica, Star Wars Jedi, Guardians of the Galaxy) ... I do plan to buy all those Sony games on PC like Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, GoW, Uncharted, Last of Us ... I simply haven't come to it yet since I do have more than enough to play.
If you think games are in any way exclusive anymore (especially for casual gamers that also buy games like 2 years later because of a lack of time to play them all) .. your living in the past.
XBox is right: it doesn't matter anymore on which hardware you play. It only matters if a company gets your money via subscription or a software sell. That's why Sony games run so well on hardware like Steam Deck ...

I heard that the few games Xbox put on Playstation recently were pretty successful. Perhaps this is a follow up to that?
I own every Playstation but I also have the OG xbox and 360 so I feel fortunate I got to experience Gears of War, Halo and some of the other brilliant games from that golden age of Xbox.
Now on my PS5, if I saw those games become available on PS5, I won't deny, I would DEFINITELY play them again. Great games are great games and people want to play them. It really is that simple, platform be damned.

Microsoft gave XBox division 100 billion USD and now wants to get that money back, and this won't work by losing money with their own platform.
That's something that was obvious to everyone except the fanboys. Phil Spencer has to answer to the Microsoft board, the same as every other division head. And that board probably is the driving force behind Xbox going multiplat. They want to see a return on those acquisitions and they weren't going to see that for a long time with Xbox operating how it has been.

I think it makes sense for MS, after 20 years in the market and with the exception of a slight bump in the 360 era they finally realized how tough life is being sandwiched between Nintendo and Sony who between them consume more than 95% of the market share. Although circumstances were different back in the late 90s but it’s exactly what happened to Sega when they kissed the DC goodbye and honestly the DC for the short live it had was 10 folds better than any console MS brought to the table specially the library.
