I like the fact someone would take the time n go to such cool lengths to create a part of their boat they would not find anywhere... that's passion beyond
Just binge watching your videos after finding this channel. Wish the algorithm had pointed me this way earlier. Great videos and looking forward to more
CZcams always seems to notify us whenever someone goes to the Marcasiss islands (spelling) so we watched THAT yesterday, Liked it, watched the 24 day trip there from Mexico 🇲🇽 tonight, and decided to start from the beginning…!!!
I'm glad to have come across your channel. What a beautiful looking boat! I love skills and talents you're bringing together for this. Very nicely done!
This is hugely impressive, as was the pinpoint accuracy when pouring the liquid into the molds! I had only ever seen this type of thing being done on the SV Seeker channel. Traditional methods often surprise people that are unfamiliar with them, decades ago as a student mechanic on a Motorcycle Mechanics City & Guilds Course at Technical College, we were given a demonstration of brazing and to a man we were all astonished at the strength of the bonds, something which none of us had ever seen before.
It's a very pretty boat you have. I haven't gotten so far on my boat, but I appreciate looking at their bronze work. I have a lot of casting on the agenda. I want to copy their method of molding dog roofs. thank you so much greeting Magne`
Magne Valen hi, what do you mean molding dog roofs please? I have a doghouse so to speak, on my boat, so I guess I have a dog roof as well. Thanks, cheers
Top notch , yput on of the last few great men that will be able to do this , in end times God takes away the Craftsman of the land and as an ex foreman i can say the skill of america is almost completely gone
You bet, there are rulers made that compensate. You also have to be sure to design the pattern so that it will come out of the flask clean after the sand is packed. I've made some crude patterns, but felt the complicated stuff is left to a real patternmaker and sent to the foundry. -Veteran '66-68
I would have made the grabrails round and then you could have eliminated the cores and just drilled them out. The casting process is pretty interesting. You look like you could have used an extra hand pouring the bronze. that looks awkward and heavy.....
At the very beginning - I#m wondering what percentage of shrinkage you have to allow for with bronze, what kind of bronze are you using ? And what angles on the models you need, to be able to take the models out without destroying the sand mold
On small parts I don't worry about shrinkage, as tapping on the patterns to loosen them for removal opens up the cavity enough to compensate. I use about a 2 degree draft angle on the patterns for removal. This is silicon bronze 873.
Hello!! Just found your channel, love your sailboat!! I have a butterfly hatch and I have a bronze part that I need made, just wondering if you guys would be interested in making that part?! Obviously I would pay for it 😊 Just curious
@@MadisonBoatworks thank you for the reply and glad to see you are enjoying the fruits of your hard labor! Best of luck to you and your beautiful sailboat 🍻
hi, tip: casting would be much easier to handle and will feel lighter if axis of tongs would go through centre of mass of filled crucible, then you are not fighting the gravity by rotating and hands spread can easily take care of weight.

enjoying watching and listening from my couch on Martha's Vineyard
I guess CZcams recommended this video after I watched Leo over at Sampson Boat Co start casting his floor pieces. Thanks.
That's insane. Insanely cool. What attention to detail, and what wonderful skill sets to have. Fabulous.
Beautiful pieces and fittings. There is just something enjoyable about watch a craftsmen turn raw material into beautiful things.
That was super cool. I'm glad CZcams recommended this video to me!
Good job on those castings. Silicon bronze is wonderful to work with! Edit - nice work on the patterns too...
Casting is always so satisfying to watch. Beautiful railing
That is some beautiful and skilled work, amazing, the boat looks so good. Andy UK
just joined, atkins ingrid a wishful favourite of mine. So will have to watch. thank you& good health to all.
You are not a wood or metal worker, you are an artist - hats off to you
Excellent work! Was starting to wonder if I was the only backyard metal caster and hobby machinist fixing up an old sailboat!

You can also see this type of bronze pouring on Leo's Tally Ho channel. The beautiful boats Madison and Samson have are outstanding.
Unbelievable 😮 what amazing skills you have...
Wow, wow, wow!!! Excellent, amazing work!
Very cool. A big part of the art of casting is the gate, riser and venting. You pulled it off well.
Very nicely done; It's always great to see skill and talent..
You two and your vessel are absolutely amazing !
I'm so impressed !
Sweet! Dr. B here - found it through WB forum. Now subscribed.
Very nice job and the boat is beautiful I have enjoyed watching it. Stefan
Mesmerizing! Great stuff to watch.
Beautiful work !
Superb demonstration!
Wow you sure have some skills for boats !!
What an amazing ability and knowledge to be able to make those parts put them on the boat. The pride one must feel.
Super cool.
I would not attempt that on mine however. You clearly know what you are doing and have done this before...

Very good! Cheers from Brazil !🇧🇷👏👍
Bravo l'artiste !!!
In the sixties I attended a unique high school which combined age old methods such as pattern making and foundry was
Great look
Exquisite, well done.
Quality work 👍
Great work
Nice work.
That was badass!!
I see yardwork is not your favorite thing to do. ha ha. You sure are a craftsman !!!
Fantastic!
Amazing! Would love to know more about you where you came from how you learned this craft what did your parents do? Grandparents lol etc..
Fabulous!

140624 I love marine engineering work. I'm envious.
Nice job
That is one lucky boat. ⛵
Very nicely done. I would like to know the make, model and year of your boat?
Nice adventure so far. What's the back story of how you got your boat and what condition was it in?
Madison .. Boatworks…= Mad Skills
Good job
just wow!
Beauty!!
what was the pin for on the wisker stay
I want to get into casting, where did you find the idea/plans for your keg furnace?
Starting the series.
Respect
Nice
I'd 3d print it on an SLA/FDM and use lost plastic casting
Nice casting! The wedding ring looks dangerous ⚠️ though (ring avulsion injury). Perhaps it’s a silicone ring?
New owner of a 1979 Baba. I’m gonna need you kids to step it up. I’ve no clue about restoring blow boats.
Would it not be easier to machine from solid brass?
Amazing workmanship! Thank you. Have you done a video of the interior of the boat?
Do the patterns have to be made oversize to allow for shrinkage as the metal cools?

Good afternoon, and you built the boat according to drawings of "Atkin Boat Plans", or bought the ready boat? I thank, Alexander.
Hi Alexander, the boat was built in 1960, before I was born. I am just the latest caretaker.
@@MadisonBoatworks I thank! Success in operation and on sea open spaces.
your crucible tongs are cool, but the leverage is against you making it harder to pour. Maybe it would be easier to use two tools to remove and pour
