I thought to buy a hero quest game but they’re no longer being made so they’re being sold on eBay for 100s of $$$!. I decided to give this a go, it’s better than hero quest and much more to it. Buy it, you won’t regret it
This game looks like a mixture between Descent, Heroquest and Castle Ravenloft. Anyway, it is on my wish list.

As a Dungeon Crawl/Fantasy/D&D game fan, I want this game: mostly because of the great-looking modular board and miniatures, but also because you managed explain the rules in a very clear and accessible manner! Now I'm thinking: "I just need to get the game, and my friends and I will be all set." You just have the uncanny superpower to make game rules easy to understand and make games desirable for would-be buyers like me!!! Adding this game to my "Must have" list!!!

I normaly don't comment on most of the videos i watch but now I have to. You made a great Video! You answered every Question I had immediately and very clear :)! Also i fell in love with Dungeon Saga when I played it with my friends and i would like to play it more often but sadly the singleplayer isn't really that good. But that's my question: Will you do another video for it's singleplayer?

I got a little bummed out by the Troll not being able to move through that little (proportionally speaking) barrel! I thought it could smash it completely... and it would be a cool thing to happen in a game!
Still, pretty neat game. I'm still a little on the fence for it, though, for it seems a bit too complex for what, in my opinion, it should be.
+allluckyseven In the basic game this is true, but I was told there are more detailed rules in the Adventurer’s Companion (an expansion that is coming) for things like that - you can destroy furniture just like you can smash down a door.
Are there expansions already coming? Might be one i NEED to get the complete set!!!! :)

As I have started watching your channel and letting you reintroduce me into what is now the gaming world, I've noticed there are several games with this kind of set up (campaign book with interchangable tiles). Is there a name for this type of game set up, or category? I find these intriguing because they can give you so many more options.

I'm sorry Sir, I went thru the video, amazing job explaining the rules, thank so much for your time! :-) however didnt see anything about making your heroes legendary. I heard rumors that heros get 1 XP per successful adventure and once they reach 5 they automatically become Legendary on adventure 6, 7 and 8.

I'm an "old school" Hero Quest player and have been thinking of getting a modern day attempt at just such a game. I'm torn though between this and Descent. Any thoughts?

I'm interested in this game as is my 9 year old son. I'm wondering though, are you planning to give a try with the DnD Temple of Elemental Evil, or are you done with that board game series? We loved the one you did for Wrath of Ashardalon, though that was a few years back. Temple is most recent and is only 4-5 months old and would love to see how that series stacks up to help us in our decision to go that way or dive into Dungeon Saga. Thanks!
+Mc1gamer I wouldn't say I'm done with that series, but I don't tend to feature games I've already covered (unless there is a radical departure from the early version). So many games, so little time! :)
Thanks for putting this up, Rodney. I'm going to be setting this up for my group to try it out this weekend, and this was very informative. I know I'm coming into this late, but I had quick movement question. You state "Models can even move diagonally, unless the model could not move into at least one of the two squares on either side of that diagonal movement...". I'm wondering how this works with the break-away rule. If you have two enemy models standing diagonal from each other, facing each other in such a way that the corners of their front arcs are touching, would that halt hero movement on the diagonal spaces that are not occupied by the enemy's front arc? Maybe an easier example to visualize would be if an enemy was positioned near a wall corner, so that the corner of it's front arc was touching the dungeon wall corner, would a hero be able to move diagonally between the enemy's front arc and the dungeon wall corner to the other side? Or would the break-away rule force the hero to stop adjacent to the enemy at that corner? I may house rule this, but if there's any clarification you can provide, it'd be appreciated.
Good question. I think it would halt movement, but that might be worth following up with Mantic on.
Thanks for the quick response. And I agree, it seems intuitive that moving in such a way would trigger the front arc of the enemy, so that's the way we'll play it. I can't think of a rationale against that, so... House Rule #1. Thanks again.
hey Rodney, do you plan on doing a full game play video of this? Also BGG says this game is for 1-5 players, how would this game play as a solo experience?
+Ryan Heckel There is an expansion that allows you to play solo. I haven't seen that yet though. No plans to do a play through of this one. But a new game play series should be starting in the next few days - keep an eye out!
Some of the minis look like they're taken from hero quest / warhammer. I love the little item/furniture miniatures.
Do you still play this game at all or has something bigger taken your groups' interest?
Listening to the rules explained, and looking at everything it seems like an upgraded version of hero quest.

My gaming habits are a little unusual compared to most anyway, because the job dictates a lot of what needs to be on my table from one moment to the next. Thanks for checking out the video though!
How close would you say Dungeon Saga is very similar to HeroQuest? Also, what do you like more, Dungeon Saga or Descent?
+Nicholas Spinicelli I haven't played Hero Quest, but I don't reviews games on this channel. It's not not an aspect of board gaming that I have a personal interest in getting into. I'd rather show the games and let the viewer make up their own mind about which appeals to them more. Sorry I couldn't be helpful there, but we also have videos for Descent if you want to check that one out as well.
Hi Rodney, I couldn't find info on this anywhere, so here's hoping you could help! So I was wondering if the melee characters (heroes) have access to a myriad of "skills" or "abilities", much like spells for the mages. In Descent, the warriors still have different skills like charging or sweeping attack or defending team mates etc. But so far from what I can tell, the warriors in Dungeon Saga can only basic attack? Or even the ranged elf could only do basic attacks? Is this correct or they unlock some skills/abilities/spells as you level up?

Right, in this game, the heroes have just their basic attacks initially, and then as you progress through the campaign they can unlock new abilities and items.
Thanks Rodney. I think I know how this works. I just thought with the spellcasters, there is a lot more variety in terms of gameplay. They get to choose between a myriad of spells. But the non-spellcasters don't have access to a variety of skills it seems.

I was wondering if you plan on or could suggest rules for more than 5 players. My gaming group can sometimes have up to 8 people who would like to play. I am a kickstarter backer and am so looking forward to getting my game, hope that ship from China makes a fast and safe voyage here!
+Painting TomCat I'm not sure. That would be a game balance issue, which Mantic would need to figure out. Sometimes, when we have more players than a game will allow, we have players team up, sharing control of a figure.

Hello, i have two question about the game.
First the wizard if it gets one hit, immediatly he is injured. But he cannot roll a -1 dice (he already has the min 2) and he cannot take a -1 in armour (since he is at minimum 1). So what happens if he gets injured? Nothing? Or he gets -1 roll in the spells.
Second question and more important, ranged characters have a line of sight which we see with the ruler, when i put the ruler and my character is in a corridor and the sceleton in a place where the ruler reaches but all the between them tiles are non-existent (dut to there is no floor on the quest) it counts? Or you need to be always in the same room or corridor?
Hey Chris, I wish I could answer these two questions, but I lend my copy of the game to a friend, and so I don't have access to the rule book currently. You may have to follow up with Mantic directly for this one.
Question: Maybe I missed it but are "boss characters" actions limited by the overlord's command points or do they act independently of the available command points?

I have a hard time believing that there were that many producers for this video. It was easily over 50. Rahdo does the reviews by himself.
+elementalsigil Each year I run a fundraiser to allow me to continue working on the videos full time. At a certain donation level you get your name as a producer in the credits (Producers are often the people who provide the money to get a video production done). No, there are not 50 people on the set, there is just me doing everything, BUT those other people help make it possible, and I'm glad to be able to highlight their contribution.
+elementalsigil Thanks for the explanation. I certainly do think that the videos are of good quality and sometimes it is nice to see how to play something without a personal bias of liking it or not.
(Hypothetically) If a Player Character, let's say Rordin, Attacks an Opponent with a roll of [6], [3], [1] & [1] and his Opponent, a Skeleton Warrior, rolls a [6] & [2], may the Skeleton Warrior measure the result of his [2] die against one of the lesser Player rolls (either of the [1] dies cast), so that when "Hits" are resolved he instead takes two as opposed to three? As you mentioned, Hits are resolved in order from highest Attack Rolls to highest Defense Rolls - I am curious as to whether this is a possible exception or the Combat System does not allow for this action. Thank you! You have definitely peaked my interest in Dungeon Saga... Wish I knew about the Kickstarter, haha.
+Patrick Marlett Hey Patrick, you can't rearrange the dice, you have to line them up as I've shown, starting at the left and going to the right (without skipping any spaces), and then you start to compare. Hope that helps!

If playing a two player game and the dungeon like this example says to use two certain characters does the hero have to control two people? Is it like that for every mission, or just for that one? Also if you had a full group of five, could you use all four heroes even though the book states that two certain characters are used? Only the overlord sees the quest book, so does ONLY the overlord know their own objective to win? Or do the heroes get to know that as well?

Can this game be played without a DM? What I mean is. Looking for a dungeon explorer game where the game is the "villain" there's only 4 of us in my group and trying to avoid a game where 1 of the 4 of us are the opposition. Looking for a game where all 4 of us play the rule book/game

+hotgun20 We do a combination of both, but I'm able to do more "How To Plays" because I don't have to co-ordinate with other people. It makes them easier to fit into my schedule. That said, we've done more game play episodes each year than the previous ones, but we have periods during the year where we aren't doing as many, so it sometimes "feels" like we're doing less of them - but overall, we aren't.
Either way, The How To Plays are one of my favorite parts, so you can be sure you won't see less of them - but I'm glad you're excited to see more game plays!
