Sam, G'day from Sydney...... Well I have been an aviation tragic for my entire life... I am by no means an airline industry analyst , but I think I can say a few things about where the airline industry is heading post coronavirus. Firstly, the seat mile cost factors and efficiency metrics that airlines always used to buy planes from airbus and boeing - are now history.. Empty middle seats and social distancing has put an end to that. The smaller, more efficient twinjet fleet strategy that global airlines seem to have chased in the last 10 years will no longer work. The paradigm has changed forever. Another factor contributing to this has been plummeting fuel prices. Airlines like QF , SIA, always talked about developing long thin routes with twin jets to destination newtorks which would bypass the traditional hub-and spoke system that has existed for decades. The kangaroo route always relied on this travel method whether it was Sydney to London via Singapore or Dubai. Now, airlines are going to realize that they will need bigger aircraft to fly a viable quantity of passengers on any long haul sector. First and business class will start to vanish from seating layouts. Why ?? well think about it. A 787 or A350 currently seats around 220 pax in a three class configuration. If QF insists on keeping 3 classes in the cabin post coronavirus, they will lose around 100 passengers to the empty middle seat. That's Perth - London with just 120 passengers (give or take a few). Do you think QF will persist with this for long??? The only way its going to work is with an A380 or 747-8. These aircraft can still fly 4-500pax in a two class configuration. They can still spin money for QF and SIA. And don't forget the cargo on these same passenger flights. Not even the 777X will be able to carry as much cargo with passengers........ That's my two cents.

With the social distancing on board the A380 can make a comeback due to its huge capacity and the fact that on many routes it flew at 60% capacity. Perhaps it is a wishfull thinking but I am looking forward to that cos I love this magnificent and ultracomfortable aircraft!

Great video Sam, u answered alot of my questions particularly the cost of tickets post Covid19...I know that u have no idea about the cost or safety issues, but initially I had planned to visit friends and family in Lagos Nigeria for Christmas this year(2020). Using your expertise, do u think that I will get a SUPER low cost ticket and will international flights(long haul in economy) be safe?

Sam, Flying was never “fun”for some of us. Waiting in long lines to get to the boarding area, jammed into small narrow seats without leg room, and feeling claustrophobic. Most people are grumpy and anxious when they finally get aboard. We would love to be able to afford first or business class, but not many cannot financially afford that luxury and now flying will be even more expensive.
As always, thank you for your videos. We’ve always enjoyed flying with you and seeing the different air carriers.
