- M/F Ostend Spirit - Selim San - Beeching / Aliaga 13.11.2013 tarihinde Gemi'nin Aliaga Türkiye'de karaya vurdurma operasyonu.. ( Sn. Selim San tarafından çekilmiştir.)
Beeching operation of vessel ( Turkey / Aliaga Ship demolishing yards.)
This ship is the Pride of Calais - built 1987. She was only the Ostend Spirit for the last few months of her life. Many millions of people travelled on her between Dover Calais in those 25 years.
Some of the best days of my life were spent working on this ship. Very, very sad to see this. She was a beautiful ole girl..sniff, sniff.
This ship for most of her life between 1987 - 2012 was The Pride of Calais.
This is what Berta Lovejoy looks like when she gets out of the bath tub
Nice beaching! He put half the ship in the yard and even drove the ones on either side farther up on shore.
On first watching I thought we had an accident in progress, but these guys know what they're doing. A perfect parking job, must have been a rush for the crew on board..
Oh wow, I remember going on that ferry when I was little, coming back from France with my dad's old Transit van full of cheap booze.
Mark Knopfler (from Dire Straits) has a song called "So Far from the Clyde" which captures this moment perfectly.
Well done!!! Very professional approach.
It's... it's a miracle. I made it to a video before the Reddit trolls pillaging the comments section!
Seems like a popular spot to beach a boat.
Amazing to see thanks, but a bit sad, this ship is being scrapped before her time
This is Хорошо... Если понимаете, о чём я...
Reddit is love, reddit is life
Wow...talk about "threading the needle"...that guy put that boat right between those two!! Nice skills!!
Beaching is quite common in the third world countries. Vessel owners are required to decommission and dismantle their vessels in a proper manner under maritime law which is hugely expensive as it is also dangerous. However, scrap metal traders welcome the beaching of vessels at certain ports where the vessel is not properly decommissioned and unsafe, the owners claim insurance and the traders get the metal. It's highly unfriendly to the environment as chemical waste and oil is leaked into the sea. Owners hence give instructions to crew to beach these vessels .
This was 'The Pride of Calais' from P&O, bought by Transeuropa Ferries last year, which went bankrupt, that's the reason it's being scrapped prematurely.
travelled on spirit of calais, ostend spirit quite a few times. new spirit of calais is quite nice.
"Pride of Calais"......The Last breath.
Well done, perfect aim.
