the hip flexor one is game changer. never felt so sore on my hips before lol
David Park That hip flexor workout is so simple but will change how you walk for a few days after the first time you do it hahaha
Andrew Lloyd so how effective is the hip flexer
D'Angelo Russell The main reason I always warm up / suggest warming up your hip flexor is to take tension off the quads. It’s a muscle that can be difficult for basketball players to warmup considering they rarely get in a full-sprint like a football player or track athlete. Activating the hip flexor distributes the pressure throughout smaller muscles so the quad can perform better and pain free.
Andrew Lloyd thanks man this vertical jump increase is tough
D'Angelo Russell It is, I know! First link in the description for 6 months of daily online workouts for $30 if you need a guide!
THAT HIP JUMP WAS CRAZZYY!!! The amount of power and explosiveness u need be able to do it that high is a crazy amount 🤯. Just try doing the hip jump by itself and see how hard it is. Wow dude!
Thank you, James!! It is a tough movement and I had to work on it for quite a bit to be able to move onto boxes😅 Thank you! Full training & programs on my site if you’re interested!!

Th amount of mass you’ve built in addition to the explosiveness you’ve gained is impressive.

Dude love the full vid of what you do! It gives us something effective to follow along to. I'm a visual learner this video was much more effective than other people who only talk and explain what they do.
Chris Berquist Glad you like the video! I always enjoy visuals when I learn, too, so I felt that would be easiest as opposed to me just rambling aimlessly haha
This was what I needed. Great to add for my schedule. Scared of jumping and this really is leaps above what I though I could do. Doing less sets, reps , and heights but worth ir

I have been training calisthenics/gymanastics(isometric holds) for years, and my first time seeing an exercise that targets your hip flexors, brilliant!
Have you never done a side leg lift? One of the most old school basic hip workouts in existence.
Glad I could show you something new to help you out! Thank you for watching!
@@bigdaddymark2256 A side leg lift does not target your hip flexors. That movement is hip abduction. There are muscle groups that will be trained with both (TFL, specifically), but the movement you described is not hip flexion.
I’m 6’4, always been athletic but for the past 3 years I’ve been gaining a little bit of weight. I’ve been hitting the gym religiously for the past 2 weeks and my diet has hit a complete 180. I lost 10 pounds in 14 days and I’m so hyped to induct this workout into my program!

Thats a lot of volume especially if muscular power is considered higher intensity
Bryant The range of motion on the rack pulls was very limited and the deadlifts at 135lbs. are extremely light. I didn’t feel like going heavy so I went for volume!
Andrew Lloyd is this workout also for stamina too? Since i know this is for basketball
@@patrickegan6750 if you really want stamina do cardio but this should help with stamina too I believe
Valid workout, first time ever seeing your channel, I’m going to guess off the workouts your a two foot jumper, two foot jumpers utilize more force while one foot jumpers more elasticity.
Jaime Morales Thank you, i appreciate that! Yes, I am a two foot jumper.
If the goal is to jump higher then plyo stuff should go first, then power/explosive, then strength work
Nicholas Basquiat Nicholas, that’s essentially what I did in the video! My warmup isn’t anything heavy or explosive - it’s all relative to my max lifts. My warmups activate my smaller muscle groups and get me warmed for my plyos. And I always go plyos then strength - I agree!✈️
I think both are important but also every individual is different. Ive seen basketball players who couldn’t lift anything jump out the gym, And Boxer’s who couldn’t lift half of what I could hit like trucks
Jay Dee I agree. It’s definitely dependent on the individual and their body types. I could play basketball every day and never touch a weight and I sincerely doubt I’d ever jump as high as I do now (now = after dieting, jumping plyometrics and heavy weight training).
My hip flexor would probably tear because I’ve tweaked it before like 4-6 years ago and I’m only 17 now and it still pulls every now and then
Joshua French The point of the workout is to warmup the hip flexor so that it isn’t strained during training so the weight you use (if any) is completely specific to your strength!
Ima 6'5 17y/o I can dunk but I cant perform some acrobatics move in the air I really hope I can :(
Kent Pongos Camo It takes some solid hang time for those trick dunks but I focus on low-rim practice so that I can translate it to 10’ when I finally have the bounce to do so!
I’m only 6’1 at the age of 15 who can grab rim. Imma try this when I workout can’t wait for it!
Will Ramsey Sounds good!! Adjust the weight to your own strength and keep the form 100%! Let me know how it goes✈️

When I was young (16/17) I was smaller but could touch the rim due to my athletic body type, I also played a lot of football which built up strength in my leg. Fast forward now I’m 20 and shocked at how bad my athletic ability has dropped. I’m hoping your program will help me out😂 Tbf I’m 6ft so I’m only a few inches off the rim now but my goal is to be able to pull off a windmill
Jamie Mills It’s always surprising how you can lose athleticism so quickly when you take some time away haha I’ve been there! I hope the program works well for you; I can’t wait to hear about your progress!
Andrew Lloyd Thanks for the reply!Since you’re here, quick question? I don’t partake in full time sports anymore but I go gym at least 3 times a week (back+biceps, chest+triceps, legs) would you recommend adding extra days for leg/jumping training or should I beef up my leg workout, or maybe do 2 big leg work outs twice a week?
Jamie Mills You’re welcome! I have free and advanced workouts at www.SKIGHathletics.com that will show you what I recommend! If you want to jump higher or get more athletic then, yes, I’d throw in 2 leg days a week!
So, can you dunk now?
Honestly on your speed pulls I would pull conventional instead of sumo since its closer to a jumping stance, but overall good stuff
goldengloves36123 i actually did half conventional and half sumo! I always switch between the two so I don’t leave one form out. But thank you!
Andrew Lloyd good idea bro, gotta make sure that booty is firing for the hip thrust of the jump
Joe Bast Oh absolutely.
how does your core contribute to a higher vert?
Reirto It provides stability during your upper and lower body workouts. It makes you more balanced during jumping and prevents injury / allows you to be more explosive.
Does doing trap bar deadlifts work as well?
Liam West Yes.
Alright thanks

Is there a specific reason training lower back increases vert?
someguy1000009 It compliments the core and it’s also bridge between your lower and upper body. A strong and stable low back is key to more balance and controlled explosiveness in your athletic movements!
Remember to stay light on ur feet🗣

Joshua Adragna Idk what a Hogg is but I’m not even 18 yet
for how long have you been training ?
What was your physique when you started to workout , also how much was the jump ?
I am a brown 22 year old kid with a decent one leg jump ( i touch the rim ) , hoping to dunk if i am able to train both my legs to put in the same amount of thrust. Have been training my legs, jump has increased, but my right leg isnt wired to jump it seems !
What do you suggest man ?
Snehal Bhartiya I have my transformation story on this CZcams channel - it’s my top video at 1.5M views! As of now, I’ve been training for 6.5 years and actually have an online program available here: www.skighathletics.com/shop
@Andrew LLOYD, do you do this all in one day? How many days a week of this? How long does it take you to do this?
Matt Tait I did do this all in one day. First link in description for my free and advanced workouts with daily plans!
2:40 LMAO. I want a gf to do some "good mornings" for me.
Smh y u gotta put that image in my head hahaha
I have a question, so vertical is nice, but did this correlate to your speed? I heard vertical jump and 40 time correlate. I'm 6ft 215, and I can barely touch rim
Calbredo My speed did increase drastically throughout the years of my vert / explosive training. I have free and advanced workouts at www.SKIGHathletics.com you can use - they’re the same ones I do!
cut about 50 lbs
@@TheMajesticSynC can't, im a d1 running back
Calbredo j lmao sureeeee
Will progressively overloading compounds movements that don’t use leg muscles still help with improving vertical? So will working on my bench help?
James71695 I think progressively overloading upper body movements gives me a higher ceiling for strength for my lower body and just keeps me “balanced” / grounded. I enjoy training with heavy weights and have other fitness goals outside of dunking so that’s why I go a bit bananas on upper body but I just thing quick-twitch/ “strong” & conditioned muscles all around are key! But, that’s just me!
I wish I grew to 5 f 8 I only made 5,5 with very short arms. I could dunk a small ball when I was 20 I could grab onto the ring at 5 - 3 at 15yo... Jumping all the time playing basketball developed most of my leap, but once I added plyometrics and weights when I was 18 my Vertical started going up again . Then I could dunk but didnt have big enough hands to control a one hand dunk with full ball so used like size 5 ball I think.
POLITICALYCORRECTify That’s still solid you could dunk! I can’t palm the ball either - I just have to jump higher😅
Would be best if you narrate the video with the content of your intro
