I can imagine it now, endless deserts packed full of dippy birds several hundred feet high. Society will be long gone but the dippy birds will remain.
AI HATES HUMANS
Long live the Dippy birds
I first saw that bird at Circular Quay in Sydney. It was 1963 and I was 6 years old at the time. I was amazed and puzzled. I never worked out how it worked, after thinking about it for many, many, many years. That bird had it’s own address in my brain. It is one of my most vivid, astonishing and enchanting memories. I finally found it’s secrets in a CZcams video not so long ago.
When professor Julius Sumner Miller was the rage , it was on his series I first saw the dipping bird .
You're a very good teacher Robert. How I wish I had a professor like you when I was in college. Cheers.
Wow, thanks
massiveimplications here for small wind and foot traffic.. another banger Bob..thanks
blind sided again with brilliance - many thanks rob!
I just love it ❤❤❤! Thanks Robert! /Mikael
cheers mate
This looks like a crazy interesting idea for your "oscillating / vibration" widget -- as it flaps in the wind. Maybe this is worth stacking a few of these and seeing what it can do?
i agree!
A breathe of fresh air, sir.
Mr. Murray-Smith, I thought windmills were kinda dumb but you kept talking about them so I turned my current project into the most complicated permanent magnet I have ever seen, but also a very efficient windmill.
I called it the monopole windmill and it's just a short but you will understand immediately.
I promise you have never seen a windmill like mine!
Kindest regards,
Bill
Well done both of u
I'm intrigued 😮
Let me know if you make a video that would be awesome
@@tractorguy97 I uploaded some videos here on my channel.
i went and looked - nice job mate - thanks for sharing
In 2045:
Neighbour: So, how big is your home generator?
Me: It's 500K DB
lol
I can picture this generation method combined with the record album turbine you demonstrated recently. Awesome stuff Rob!
that's a good idea mate
Makes sense; there’s low energy cooling systems for buildings that take advantage of large scale water evaporation, this idea exploits it differently but similar in principle.
the cooling is elegant. but this bird will never recoup the amount of energy to build i fear....
Today I learned you guys have crocodiles across the pond whilst we yanks have alligators lol😂.
Thank you for sharing your awesome ability to explore science with the free world
This makes me think of an e-ink book (shaped like a standard book) that is powered by opening and closing it.
you can't make a Mouse trap 🖥️📞 📻without somebody saying something about it, Got You !
this bird will never recoup the amount of energy to build i fear....
I’ll be dipped!
And there you have it... just another time Bob has ruined one of life's little mysteries. Really, I always wondered how that damn thing worked... cheers to you for the vid.
lol - my bad mate lol
I reckon there is enough energy in the dipping bird concept to run a clock. Imagine telling someone you got a clock that runs on water.
They would probably think it was a water clock.
You could use the evaporation and temperature differential of ponds of sea water. This way you could also concentrate and collect the minerals, two for one bonus.
We had these when we were kids, came in a neat science kit dad got us for Christmas.
So rubbing hard and fast is the way to go. This is also the same when trying to make fire by rubbing two boy scouts together. Cheers! 😁
Great video Rob, it would be interesting to see that flapping turbine you made with these on the top and bottom of the plate!
Hi Robert. Have you considered using and experimenting with Piezo Film Sheets to generate electricity? The material, piezoelectric polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) , is easy to use and it can generate a lot of electricity. You just have to experiment with ways to continuously vibrate it. It is very convenient to use. Only one sheet does all the work.
P.T.F.E = Plumbers tape for everything
Now integrate that into the floppy blade LP wind turbine with the displacement bearing.
I've got one of these. It's really fun to watch.
My setup utilizes the principles of capacitance and electric fields to transfer energy from the battery to the load without a traditional closed circuit. Here's how it works and how you can build it:
1. **Principle**: Capacitance is the ability of a system to store an electric charge. When a voltage is applied across two conductive plates separated by a dielectric (in this case, PTFE), an electric field is created between the plates. This field stores energy, even though no current flows through the dielectric.
2. **Building the Setup**:
- **Materials**: You'll need four aluminum plates and PTFE sheets.
- **Construction**:
- Place a PTFE sheet between each pair of aluminum plates, creating a "sandwich" with alternating aluminum and PTFE layers.
- Connect one inner aluminum plate to the positive terminal of the battery and the other inner plate to the negative terminal.
- Connect the outer aluminum plates to the load (e.g., a light bulb).
3. **Operation**:
- When the battery is connected, the inner plates become charged, creating an electric field across the PTFE dielectric.
- The PTFE prevents current flow but allows for the storage of electrical energy in the form of the electric field.
- When the outer plates are connected to the load, the electric field between the plates discharges through the load, providing power without a complete circuit for the battery.
4. **Safety**: Use caution when working with electricity. Ensure the battery voltage is appropriate for the load and components. Avoid short circuits and ensure proper insulation.
This setup demonstrates an interesting way to transfer energy wirelessly, using the principles of capacitance and electric fields.
Coil and magnet generators on VAWTs need a certain speed (cut-in rpm) to achieve a certain voltage to start charging a battery. If the VAWT AlSO had a tribo generator attached to it, the VAWT could produce useful battery charge at low rpm below cut-in rpm.
So in effect, harvesting useful battery charging electricity with ANY rpm, or ANY movement.
That is what I want to build. Charging a 12volt battery.... say, on a boat.
Chuck in Jensen Beach Florida.
So, you're telling me Homer was onto something....
What would be the ratio of energy used to produce such a device, compared to the amount of energy it would produce over its lifetime ?
Hey Robert. I just bought 10 dippy birds. Got some wider packaging tape and HVAC aluminium tape. Gonna try out a new TENG with this. You are one of my idols.
Seems a fella could mount several on a rod, use some ratchets and start them out of sink. Maybe you could speed the motion of the rod this way.
WOW!
Fascinating.
Great information and informative!
Thanks for posting
Robert. Thank you for this. I need to study this more to understand it enough to make a Tribo generator/capacitor/rectifier/battery circuit.
thank you for this, ive already figured out what will work better that a drinking bird, hehe wont be sharing what ive discovered though!
I'll have to check my parents house they had one.
How about a "flapwheel" of the two materials being "combed" by rods on a big old gear box?
great stuff! like to hear your thoughts on iron nitride magnets.
ihave done a video on them mate
@@ThinkingandTinkering ahh ive found it! silly bugger i am.
I FINALLY FOUND A CHANNEL THAT TALKS ABOUT ENERGY AND TURBINES
Instant subscribe from me
awesome mate!
Thank you very much...
You're most welcome
Idea: condense water at altitude. Gravitational potential exceeds cost to condense around 100m.
What about combining evacuated solar tubes, stirling engine(s) and thermoelecric generators?
great video Professor Smith
Thank you kindly
Triboelectric wind power would be great.
hmm what about installing several of those in say a Air con duct ... Wonder what energy you could harvest from the system just being active...
The trick to making this technology work effectively at scale is to use negative pressure to lower the boiling point of a working fluid until it is close to room temperature. Then, any amount of heat applied will cause the fluid to boil and can transfer that energy to a generator. Unfortunately this means that your "boiler" must be hermetically sealed, making it mechanically impossible to attach a drive-shaft. Enter MAGNETIC Coupling.
Your generator and working fluid are housed in a hermetically sealed casing. The turbine of the generator turns a large magnet inside the case and the pickup coil is on the outside. This makes the system work more like a sterling engine - harnessing low-grade heat to boil a fluid and turn a magnet. The fluid is then cooled to ambient air temperature, condenses, and the cycle continues.
you can make the waves bigger,I helped, free waves anyone hahaha will it pump water friend
There is also the nitinol in water engine
Flap wheel generator, wind generator add on !
If we do develop this, can we keep the bird head and top hat? Please? Oh, and the tailfeathers, too.
Once again the Simpsons predicted this lol
Tribadism, ooh er missus.
What if we use Methylintrichlorid instead of air in a modified Alfa stirling engine? You would need a lower temperature difference to work 🤔
Thought of using the Seiko-Style “Magic Lever” for this item?
I have been telling people about hydrovoltaics on my channel for a LONG time❤
I'm thinking that one of those horizontal LP records, with the flaps, that collects/generates from the wind...Then coat the flaps with teflon, and find a way of collecting THAT static electricity, as well as the rotational motion derived energy.
Double dipping?
i like that mate - clever thinking i would say
sur la plupart des tribogenerateurs il y a un lien à la terre et un circuit avec transistors à effet de champ... tu pourrais nous expliquer?
Awesome, I have lost count ,where to start.
lol
A good man knows that when you rub harder and faster , it works even better .,
Tiny amount of energy.
Make one of the 3D printed generators which is conducting filament and ptfe ball bearings moving around please
hahaha::::::::::::::::::: This Guy is incorrigible You keep me Inventing, you need a PR,Man Ill help, you gotta keep this Guy.
Robert Murray have you checked Tom Statons new video out about a motor/ generator he made to run a small toy car?
We ca use Greek for rub for triboelectricity , we really mustn't use the French word .
Also ether is another goodworking fluid for evaporation engine . But I remember the ones i saw in popular science long ago were 3 metre diameter at least .
100v from a dipping bird.
How big of a bird, is this thing?
Careful bear 67
How much energy can we remove from the water cycle before causing problems?
it would still be part of the water cycle mate as it is evaporating water!
Just use nitinol to make an out of balance wheel.
harder and fast always works for me haha :))
lolol - nice to see you saw the joke mate lol
so this is the level of europes desperation? :)
Calm jet 60
Sounds like a dippy idea to me.
it would go back to school
@@ManyHeavens42 Comedian School ?
lolol - boom boom!
I used to love these when I was a kid. They literally are using water as fuel.
We say working fluid .
They're using heat as fuel. The water is not a fuel.
It's intended as a joke as in the liquid being consumed. Referencing the historical constant stories of man invents car that runs on water.
Seriously. Hamster wheels. That’s all I’m gonna keep saying.
PTFE.
