"Chip on board" is what most of those blobs are - incredibly delicate underneath the epoxy. Big props for keeping the honest content / helping others avoid the same fate!
Anyone else audibly say "OH NO" when he started messing with the blob chip?
Oh yes.
Definitely
R.I.P blob chip 😂😂😂
Man, how i love those episodes
Thanks Adrian! Hope you're well 😊
there are solder cracks somewhere. if it fails to load when put back together, it means that mainboard changed it shape when screwed back into the case. you may need to do reflow of whole board to get all solder cracks fixed. then it may work even when put back together completely.
T-Shirt = 'Don't mess with the Blob Chip'
Massive respect for uploading you completely destroying that Atari lmao. Giving my first go at repairing a PS3 that was sold to me as working, but actually has a YLOD. Wish me luck!
Hopefully it gives a little bit of awareness! 😁
YLOD PS3s aren't really something a beginner should have a go at. If it's a fat console that isn't a CECHM or above, it is 99% going to be a failed CPU which isn't repairable without a BGA machine and a donor CPU. Please don't believe all the videos where they tell you it's the NEC Tokin capacitors that have failed. It isn't.
Yes, we have enjoyed this content, this is our life now, watching all your videos ;) do more stuff outside ps5/switch please
My Dad worked down the pit as an electrician, then moved onto Redifusion repairing Radios and televisions, he also tested theatre sound systems. When he passed we found boxes of radio and tv parts.
Maybe could have cut the plastic between each wire for the joined cable, I did also see another CZcamsr cover the whole wire in conformal coating and then scrape it away back to wire which allowed the wire to be held in place better
Great video Joey, we learned a lot this episode. Next one will shine on the positive side of the spreadsheet for sure. Keep up the great content 👍🏻💪🏻
perhaps the only good and best retro system that Atgames has ever released so far
That happens to the best of us, Joey. Thanks for your continued honest videos
Thank you :)
I laughed out loud when you completely bricked that Atari lmao
Still waiting for a "Welcome Your Faces" doormat
All you can do is Try, and you did! Great Attempts and Video. You'll get the next one! Thank You. 😀
Joey, this could be linked to the wifi IC as after googling around, those that manage to get it working intermittently have poor wifi strength or other wifi issues.
I love me a good bodge practice. I'm in the laptop repair field for school districts and can say I see my fair share of ripped pads. It's always the USB-C ports that kill me 💀
Would love to see you get some game gears on this series, think it would be very interesting to see
30 minute video, nice🥰 That blob chip though, I did the same about 15 years ago and I've never forgotten
What has Joey learned today? Don't mess with blobs! 🤣
I hate to give advice to someone who is clearly better at electronics work than I am. But I think it might have been easier to connect the wires to the tops of the pins on the connector before trying to connect it to the board. Thanks for all of the awesome entertainment!
Suggest you research Pad Strip. works better for under connector trace repairs than wire.
But hey, at least the T-shirt is matching Sallys spectacular spreadsheet...
Oh no.. this was a tough episode. But now we can go up again.
I never thought I would be so stressed just watching someone trying to get a connector positioned 🤣
For a second, I thought Joey figured out how to deal with a blob chip, I wasn't disappointed lolol
check the speakers! disconnect them. and connect only one by one, if this doesnt is the problem, check the headphone port and maybe disconnect/change it too
love the vids even when they're fails lol... just proves ya human ;)
Yees, it's now fully minus! After 73 episodes, we're in the minus again overall...
Oh well, I saw how frustrating this was for you, here's hoping for better luck for you on the next one, you need it!
You could resell the Atari for what you paid for it as a case for a raspberry pi case for someone seen it on ebay before
at 6:29 you could see what looked like a hole in that ams1117 voltage regulator.
I was cringing/crying/laughing when you were hacking at the “blob” IC. Poor thing!
The blob is black epoxy. It's there because UV light can wipe the contents of the chip.
My face feels very welcomed joey, thank you.
If only you had replaced that open inductor @9:50 with any inductor salvaged from another device with an
inductor in the video output.. Alas we will now never know if that was all it needed, well that and the 1AM transistor
that is connected to that inductor..
APU 👁👍
S1:E73??? should go into S2 at some point :D
20:29 maybe the wireless connector under the board was shorting it
Hi Joey, I'm sure you might have tried this but I got to ask.
Those yellow white cables are analog video signal while HDMI is digital so while using that adapter for capturing the video signal you need to supply the 5v to the adapter. Else you won't capture any video through hdmi out. I've tried this with the wii.
Yes bud 5v is supplied to it with a USB micro cable :) if that’s what you mean
@@JoeyDoesTech cool then. Had to ask because the adapter was shown with just the cables plugged in. I didn't expect you to crack that resin. I mean you haven't had retro consoles with you before? That black resin directly covers the silicon IC to prevent tampering (basically like prevent piracy and homebrew). It hurt me when I saw you pop it like that 🥲. But learning curve ;)
R.I.P blob chip 🤣
Hey Joey! What flux do you use and where can I buy it? Thanks!
I have an Atari 2600 that is 40+ years old and still works fine, except for a loose power jack
Sorry, i couldn't help but laugh when you attacked that blob chip. it was looking so promising.
Haha don't worry I laughed too 😁
Ive seen similar previously not a switch but a macbook with the back off its fine but then put the back cover on and it plays dead almost like its shorting out and wont turn on. Could it possible the backplate on the switch is connecting 2 points that shouldn't
A resistor can never get a lower value when faulty. It always increases in resistance (or opens up completely)
Oh good to know! Thanks :)
@@JoeyDoesTech also 75 ohm is a standard resistance for analog video
But what i think isn't good is 6 Ohms on sdram chip. And bad ram chip can provide no video output. Maybe You have a solutin before you? Too bad we won't find out now.
Kiss of death from the commentary box
Audibly laughed with you when you destroyed the blob chip.
Blob chip on board put it down & run the hell away from it, as the blobs attack back
You’ve been watching a lot of videos from down under, haven’t you? 😂
I just bought a shirt! 🙂 I wonder how long it’ll take to get to australia
be careful joey ,when it comes to switches or other devices ,as people are using a thin rubber membrane between the screwdriver head and the screw . as not to mark the screw ,when they open the device ,giving the appearance the screw has not been opened ,as it show,s not visible sign of marking . it,s an old trick that,s been around for donkey,s years . this method can also be used on stripped philip screws .that slip when using a screwdriver ,the rubber membrane gives the screwdriver grip . so if you do come across a switch that looks to be ,not opened ,only to find there has been work done on the board , the rubber membrane trick has been used on the screws.
Is the hi-hat the most useful to fix that temperature goal? Is fishing one of those games? I don't know. Namastè.
Episode 73 and in the red ... come on joey
13:45 🤣🤣
for flux sake, Joey.....lol
Y have the same issue but work ok in dock mode, try this, not error when use the console in the dock. I don't know why
I think that 6 Ohm on a sdram chip is to low and a bad ram chip can cause that there is no video signal. Too bad you started liquidating the blob chip. 😀
Is it possible to name the products you are repairing in the title? I just got a PS4 Pro with no video output but I cannot find if you did any videos on that device 😞
With Joey's skills....you can update this Atari system to a HDMI port ....
Me as Joey starts poking at the blob chip 🤦. It was never going to go well.
Ahhhh, a video to cheer up my broken soul who may have an xbox series x with a corrupt nor on the SB board
I hope that's not the case Phynx! Best of luck :)
That switch is cursed.
Hi Joey you bought a ps5 from my ebay yesterday i would like you to know the ps5 has been apart before i believe i took the side casing off just to remove the disc manually and seen the sticker saying void but i can assure you it was working 2 days ago and hasnt been taken apart since the problem started so hasnt been tampered with if you do manage to fix it can you please wipe the accounts off thankyou :)
I sold you that Atari on eBay I believe, I got it at a Carboot’s and was already opened before. Sorry it wasn’t fixable for you.
Lol
Man, I was really dissapointed. Not with you, just that the items were so darn hard to fix.
Same haha!
Mate, it was painful to watch this episode. I was about to put a fork into my eye.
Maybe try some more Xbox series x buddy I’ve not seen you do many.
Anyone having the issue that on a phone i can only select 480p after 10 min of viewing? I started with 2160p. Can't select that anymore.
Not me fella but I've got a 100MB 4G connection although I'm showing about 50MB down. I did check the video on my phone and it's the same as my laptop, no probs with 4k or 1440.
I think the video wasn’t finished processing the higher res formats, you prob watched it the instant it was posted.
@@chrisgr00ver yes, it was 10 min online.
"Nada, absolutely nada". Do you speak portuguese/spanish? :)
yay
Bruh its not a "blob" its potting compound. its epoxy. leave it alone
😂😂😂
I do not know if a cut on the ground wire could make the video signal vanish.. 🤔🤔 R.I.P Blob chip 🪦
